Switching from stock injectors to Ford 4-hole injectors and testing for a difference!

Upgrade Injectors: Ford 4 hole 0280155710
Each injector style releases a similar amount of fuel at the same pressure . This mod will not increase the amount of fuel to your engine rather it will only change the spray pattern of the fuel as it enters the cylinder. The idea is that the 4 hole injectors will create a finer mist and in turn a more complete combustion.

My 2001 TJ 2.5 manual transmission was a real dog when new. Over the years, when I have a few extra $, I played with some bolt on enhancements to improve performance. I installed a Banks header, which gave me more torque. This cracked at the seam after 5 years. I ordered another one from Banks under warranty. That one cracked too 4 years later. Installed a throttle body spacer, which seemed to improve performance and definitely sounded better. Installed a cold air intake with K & N filter. That helped. Installed a Jet Stage 2 ECM- that was noticeable. Installed a Magaflow "Off Road" exhaust to free up the flow. It's really loud, but made quite a difference. Everything else is stock. Now I can pass other cars and remain in the fast lane, which was never possible when I bought it new. It's loud, but lots of fun. Anyone considering buying a TJ with the 2.5 engine should get the manual transmission.

I have a 98 tj that I put headers and flow master al the way back then I put new Injectors and clean the carburetor out but now when I turn on the Jeep The idle is really high can you help me what can it be I change the map sensor and idle control sensor and it still does it don’t know what it is

My '92 2.5 was dog with 33" BFGs! I did new engine sensors (TPS, AIT, O2, etc.) new fuel pump, 4 hole injectors, air intake, full exhaust with header, new spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor, new coil and that seem to have awakened it. Before that it would barely get up to 60MPH. After I could do 75, but pedal to the metal on a flat road. Slight incline and I would lose 5 MPH. Then I added a 4.0 throttle body and that helped. It was spunky of the line. The biggest improvement came after I re-geared to 4.88 from 4.10. I can maintain 75 MPH on the highway no problem. I've done 85 MPH but that is scary on a YJ even though it has new suspension components in the front (not death wobble and drives very straight).To those who say nothing can improve the performance of the 2.5L, you are wrong. A single mod will not. A combination of mods will and even better if you re-gear.

Is yours a 5 speed? I have a 01 with the 2.5, 33's and 4.88 as well. Mine is the 3 speed auto so 60 mph is 3k rpm.... I would love to do a 5 speed swap but was not sure if the power would be there to maintain 5th gear.

I have a 98' XJ 4.0. I put these inhectors in. It run better overall. Starts better, smoother on the highway. I used to get about 170 miles from a tank of gas. Now, with these injectors, I get about 50 more miles from a tank, on the highway.

I did this injector mod on my 97 TJ 2.5l 5 speed 6 years ago along with the throttle body 4.0 swap (keeping the 2.5 pilot valve for idling and boring the intake manifold wider for a better fit), electric fan and Yella Terra roller rockers [1.6 ratio]. Since then it will increase speed uphill at 70 MPH in 5th gear with 3 passengers verse before it would slow down and down shifting was a must just to hold speed. Still waiting to install a header and exhaust system. Gears are 3.73 with 29" tall tires. Its really a blast of fun to drive on road. I'm getting 18 mph on the highway going 70 - engine RPM is about 4,000. And I get about 16 mpg in town.

That's awesome! I don't have the roller rockers but I have just about everything else and I see similar performance. The only thing you really have me beat with is mpg but I am tuning 31s with 4.11s iin the axle and its an automatic so I am sure those have a lot to do with it. I am glad you love your Jeep as much as I do they really are a blast to drive!

Hey there. Good video. Did the 4-hole fuel injector swap on a 2003 Jeep TJ 4.0L and got rid of the single shot Siemens injectors and replaced those with 6 Ford Crown Victoria 4-hole police interceptor v8 fuel injectors: a noticeable difference indeed! Smoother idle and easier startup, same fuel mileage and smoother acceleration. Helped with the Eaton M62 supercharger to deliver it's boost easier to the AMC 4.0L straight six. If it'll work on the motor here, it'll definitely work on a 2.5L four as that was designed before the 4.0L six.

I recommend it. the swap was very easy. Right now I am looking into dodge neon injectors because they are easy to pull from a junk yard and i am told they have the same affect. I would want to make sure the flow rates match before doing so but it would be a good way to save some money as you can get 4 of them for about $20 if you pull them yourself.

@@JeepSheepTV IT WILL BE EPIC! The overall power gain is a lot especially after 3500. Once its set right the low end is quite a lot better also but the top end is crazy. Yes it will use more gas when you put your foot into it but normal driving is the same , which isnt great by any means so whats a few lost miles when you can get out into traffic and actually have power to spare i should say

Drove a 1994 2.5L 5Sp Manual cherokee (very base model ) From About May 2006-to Oct 2015 AFTER a tune up upgrade to BRAss rotor and button and all new BOSHE Platnum plugs, and using things like, "ENVIROMAX" (a toulene) plain Acetone, probably Berryman's will work at 1.5 ounces per tank (about 1 oz for 10gallons ) I w)ent from a VERY disappointing 16mpg (one plug had probably never been changed over behind the AC compressor very worn but very clean after Acetone and enviromax) Before I wrecked the thing in the last Rain of Hurricane Patricia (Oct 18? 2015 ) I was regularly BACK to 22-23MPG EPA original estimated HWY Mpg and without the fuel catalysts about 20mpg & not on highways but a 12.5mile each ways commute 4miles in traffic about one stretch of 6 miles at 50-65mph after warm up. Original ONE hole injectors, I am still hope to get the engine and some 4-12 hole injectors in it after a base line MPG and see if I can find ULTRASOUND transducer to put in the intake some how. ALSO I had a noticiable boost in horsepower to get over a 400 foot hill (700-1100ft AMSL) One thing I did do that made a difference a bit unconventional, a BENIE WEINIE can cut with snips to make a pinwheel shape as my own "TORNADO" as seen on TV I had to take it out after about 10months as the vanes had fatigue cracks from vibration. That was part of the last Mile per gallon , getting more air in AFTER the air filter turbulence , On that intake no screen, like some have before the intake disc. Which I also had to clean fairly often from the Vent valve oil as it would get black before oil changes. That's how I noticed the cracks in the Can/pinwheel air spinner . Search google patents there's been fuel vaporization patented granted for decades, why none on the market??? Imagine the fuel tax revenue reduction in the US for 40 years & globally for ONE billion carS getting 17% increase in mileages and no need for a catalytic converter , like a old choke once the engine is warmed up a few seconds flip on the vaporizer , or automatic would work. Enviromax alone got me 14-15% increase straight acetone about 10% & plugs always clean, so probably to the valves and RINGS and never a fuel pump or injector failure over 160,k miles when wrecked. I did have a mouse get in the coolant bottle act as a check valve and stop the Green sweet coolant from returning from the bottle tail in the drain and hair all around the radiator cap and so over 3 trips to town in warm weather the engine over heated and blew the head gasket between 2&3 where for some silly reason that 2.5L has about HALF the distance between cylinders, after a spare head was reconditioned at a machine shop back to 23mpg . I Would love to try the 12point injectors some day soon.... and ultrasound maybe water injection and a real "tornado" I don't eat benie weenies so I hate to buy cans to feed the dog, seems cruel ! LOL Hope you find this funny, all based on real experience. R.I.P. Johnny Rutherford and Enviromax killed by the Texas ATTY General. and a potential 12-15% reduction in gasoline road taxes.

Will the k suspension fit in the stock rail ports? The upgraded rail from Amazon won't accept the injectors, ports are WAY too small. Any idea on the size port I am looking for?

I have been doing smog control stuff for years and the computer will just lean the injectors back out, so most of what you did was no help but you can change the computer setting and get just a bit more power if you can find someone that knows how to reprogram the computer. The biggest thing you can do is remove the stock fan and go electric.

The purpose of this exercise was not to get more fuel in the cylinder because like you said. The computer will just adjust. The 4 hole injectors are meant to help with getting a more uniform fuel- air mixture, which contributes to a more uniform combustion. Uniform combustion makes for a more efficient burn which increases my chances of burning all the fuel in the cylinder which would contribute to better power and efficiency while using the same fuel injection parameters. I will admit that it is a small change but that's the reasoning behind why I did it.

I made the mistake of swapping in 19lb ford 4 hole 5.0 injectors. Shes a bit rich now . Nice crackles on decel. But loud backfires coming off the highway. Maybe i need to add some boost to compensate for the extra fuel haha.

When you started it, you needed to leave the key on a few seconds and listen for the fuel pump to quit, bzzzzzzzztt that allows the fuel rail to be up to pressure before you crank the starter, OLD injectors can bleed down the pressure or a worn fuel pump might, I found this out years ago with a Bonniville a woman wanted to reach over from the Passenger side to start on cold mornings, just let the key be on for a count of 4 then crank, OTHERWISE you have to get in the car and floor the pedal to clear out the gas if flooded from repeated cranking. if it does not start quickly something's off.

Thanks for the video. Ordered 4 injectors for my 2.5L YJ. K suspension shipped them fast, and they came with o rings. The performance issues have temporarily subsided. So we shall see what happens in the long run as it is tradition for any repair I make on the jeep to have it running fine for a week or a month before I'm back to square 1. If I'm good a month from now, I owe K suspension a right proper review for their product and service. Thanks for the recommendation.

Interesting that it works so good. The 53030778 has much higher flow (234cc@3bar) compared to the 0280155710 ( 210@3bar). Maybe the original is just overkill?

The PCM adjusts for the difference in fuel output, I assume it's a little bit leaner on open loop mode.

Quick question I noticed you left the clear plastic overing keepers on the injectors when you installed them I took mine off it's running fine it's been almost a year I'm pretty sure you're supposed to take them off are you having any issues with leaving yours on

From what I have read those retainers are primarily there to pull the o-ring out with the injector when you remove them from the manifold. Outside of that I'm not sure if they have any functional purpose. Of the injectors of that style that I have pulled from the junkyard they all have had the retainers. But, the internet says that removing them has no functional consequences, you just may need to use a dental pick to get the o- rings out then next time you replace them.

So before finding this video I ordered 4 hole 21lb injectors, 62mm throttlebody and electric fan. Already has a free flowing turbo muffler on it. Do you think I'll notice any good change with all these parts installed? I'm considering a turbo if this doesn't make it more drivable

You should notice a difference but it will be marginal at best. One gust of wind and you are back to being slow. The supercharger and moving the IAT have been my favorite mods

I met Jeep enthusiast two years ago monthes after I bought my Jeep and this 4 barrel injector upgrade came in the conversation I never realized that the factory injectors had only one port wile all average fuel injected cars have 4 ports injectors. I made a lot of research to get me good injectors for a good price and I ended up finding equivalent flow rate injectors with 12 HOLES nozzle and EV6 connectors ! I bought connector converters so I could plug the EV1 injector type wire harness to these EV6 and it worked super fine with Iridium spark plugs and a throttle body spacer. I also plan to put a BBK 62mm throttle body in. My Jeep torque like a champ it's like a Detroit Diesel tractor now and with this improvements I intend to consume less gasoline possible after converting for Ethanol fuel and have the best efficiancy I could get.

Sounds great I've done a lot of those conversions myself as you can probably see from the channel. I'm glad to see you're one of the few of us that recognize some of the highlights of this engine. I know I have really enjoyed trying to Lemonade with what many thought to be a lemon powertrain. Not to be one to correct you but ethanol fuel actually requires more fuel to burn and therefore is less fuel efficient from an mpg stand point. It does however burn much cleaner and outputs fewer emissions which is a definite plus.

Tottally right and that is why upgrades like four or twelve port injectors are hightly recommended for ethanol as it gets the best of it and limits the overconsuming. My old ones had more than 130 000 km and in the end of their life spark plugs where a bit white meaning they were tired. I also had little " Bang bang " at the exhaust at decelerating I assume they where a bit leaky so fuel was burning in the exhaust, it disapeared after I replaced these injectors.

I have since replaced the engine block, bored the intake, and added an exhaust header so I have no real way to tell what affect the injectors are having. I can say that I have had silky smooth idle since installing them.

@@JeepSheepTV if it does not have adjustable shift points like an old ford "modulator" but does use vacuum im sure one could be adapted from an old ford c4 auto. there is a screw that tightens the spring inside and adjusts shift points

You think resetting the ECU would have made a difference? I've read doing that every time you change an air fuel component is a good idea. Then IIRC after resetting running it through 50 temperature warm up cycles for the ECU to reprogram its maps. That's how my 97 TJ works, not sure if the same for older YJs.

@@dreamingincars947 1. Disconnect the battery by removing the positive battery cable. Remember, the positive battery cable. 2. Ground the positive cable to the negative cable for 30 seconds to erase the electric charge in the capacitors. 3. Reconnect the positive cable to the battery. 4. Turn the key to on but do not start. 5. Turn the headlights on. 6. Turn the headlights off. 7. Turn the key off. The ECU has now been reset to its factory settings. For the next 50 warm-up periods the ECU will re-learn the engine and driving habits for your driving conditions and the newly installed parts

Hard to say but could you have connected the injectors to the wrong plug on the harness? Doing so would certainly cause those symptoms

In the video that I reference they have a Cherokee and I think they disconnected the battery and toggled the lights. I did that, can't really tell if it reset anything but I haven't seen any issues. The flow rate through the injectors should be similar enough that the PCM can't tell any difference.

A 4 cyl Wrangler doesn't so much accelerate, but rather it accumulates speed, much like a bank account accumulates interest. LOL- it's hilarious that there's so much room in your engine bay that you can stand in it.

Bigger injectors by themself likely will not make it faster. Bigger injectors means more fuel (kinda) and should be matched with more air. For more power you will need to make multiple modifications that compliment each other. If it's the same 2.4 they used on the Neon, I would look at their forums for tips and tricks.

What the heck 14.8 something can not be right. I got my 1994 2.5l 5 speed to over 22 and some of the driving was stoplight on longer trips 23mpg after going to BOSHE platnumplugs brass rotor and cap and some bigger wires, I wish I could try some TWELVE hole injectors, on that and I use Acetone. on a regular basis at 2 ounces for 20 gallon fill up.

There is no way at 5:40 that the hellcat has a 0-60 time of 10.9, my 11 sierra 1500 would whoop that if it did and it only has a 4.8.

4, 8, 12, 100 hole injectors do not increase HP!!! The pcm controls the same amount of fuel regardless of how many ports the injectors have. IF anything you might get a smoother idle.

I am aware that my millage is below average and I am looking into why that would be. Oddly enough most of the components in my engine bay are brand new and the mileage has not improved. Some of my issue however is where I live you are either driving 80mph or slamming on the brakes. My engine rarely gets to run under 3k rpm.

I would like to suggest o2 sensor is you haven’t already. Mine went bad in my 97 2.5 and I literally went from 13.5 mpgs down to 8mpgs. And I drive like you just mentioned. It’s always wide open or stopping and going.

My 92 2.5 can pull stumps and do 80 (so long as it's not up hill) on the freeway... And has always got a little over 18 mpg. Course it's a good ole manual.

Sorry, but this may be the least scientific, least controlled and least reliable comparison test I’ve ever seen. It’s fine to mess around on your own all you like, great fun and all, but I very strongly advise anyone viewing this to not spend their time money and effort based on this video. I could go into excruciating detail describing why, but you’d do at least as well flipping a coin on whether there will be benefit. (Except of course for the most glaringly obvious limitation that the “before test” was with nasty old injectors of unknown condition. For crying out loud, even if the rest of the test had any hope of producing meaningful results, which it did not, for all you know fresh or cleaned stock injectors would have been as good or or better.)

First of all, thanks for being my first real negative comment! That tells me that my videos are gaining in popularity. I agree with you, there is a lot to be desired in my testing. old stock vs new stock vs 4-hole would be a minimum. Ideally I throw the jeep on a dyno (remove a ton of environmental variables) and test highway, city, full throttle all the while measuring the exhaust to determine combustion efficiency. A test like that if thrown together quickly would cost a min of $700 (just a guess) Unfortunately I have to treat my channel like a business and I need to balance my expenses vs income. channel Income = $0 and is not projected to increase for quite a while. I was swapping injectors anyway and thought I would try to gather whatever data I could with the tool I had available. If you want some real data I can give you the number for some professional automotive test houses that can test the engine to SAE J1349 but you might be a bit shocked by their quoted pricing.
