I feel like a lot of issues they have with their videos are because they lack interesting narratives or are as creative as they could be (Not trying to talk trash just feel like there are other areas they could be going for). Like Leo and Marss playing with hotdog hands was weird. Interesting concepts are what Panda did where they did quizzes, or made them play creative game modes that they would make for the players, like Kirby golf. In this case I think it would be interesting to see them ask the players creative prompts. They don't have to be all in a group either. Telling Mars a prompt for him to do on his stream (his own time to do). It could be something like, "How would you rework Captain Falcons, ZSS, etc." " You are not the developer of Smash Ultimate what characters and game modes are you adding? You can only add 20 characters with 5 only being third parties and 3 game modes only."

As a current college student with a switch, I can confirm that Ultimate IS a great party game. The single player is barebones and the there's a lot of problems competitively, but it is easily the best party game of the smash games. The huge amount of characters is a nightmare competitively, but is amazing in a party setting. You'll get a nice variety from people picking their mains to people who see minecraft steve or cloud strufe and think it's cool to play as them. Also knowledge-checking your friends who don't play as much is really fun. Spiking someone with luigi's down taunt, putting snake's c4 down when everyone is too distracted to notice, cargo throwing off the edge as dk, just camping as jigglypuff. There's so many weird gimmicks that are just more fun in a party. Plus, theres so many modes in Ultimate that shine at a party. Special smash, stage builder, squad strike, 8 player smash, smashdown, fs meter, even the tourney mode. The tourney mode is pretty terrible if you want to have an even somewhat professional tournament, but when you're playing with friends and want to have a spur of the moment tournament, the dumb little single-elimination tourney is great so you don't have worry about organizing a tournament and just want to play for a bit. Then the switch itself adds so much too. It's a handheld so you can easily bring it along anywhere to play it. And it's Nintendo's best selling console behind the ds, so odds are people will have it and can bring controllers for more people to play. And even if you don't, the joycons work as two extra controllers. Yeah, it's gonna suck for those two people that have to play on sideways joycons, but if the options are to play with the shitty controller, or to not play at all, the joycons are a nice option to have.
@Aaron-kr5vg6 күн бұрын
@@andrewg.3281 I completely agree. I spent the first 4 years of the game only enjoying it competitively. I would only have fun when playing 1v1s, I’d practice combos in training mode regularly, and I would go to locals to improve. At a certain point, it was more frustrating to lose than satisfying to win, so I stopped playing the game entirely. After over a year, I finally played it again with some friends. We turned items on for the first time ever and chose stages like Zelda’s temple or even custom ones. Let me tell you it was so refreshing to experience the casual side of the game. There are so many cool stages and items that allow for funny interactions that aren’t otherwise possible. It was the most fun we had playing the game since its release. It’s important to understand that the game is an amazing party game that just so happens to also be competitive. Not the other way around.

6:32 Tweek is right, we can have a tournament with a bunch of nobodies but with Light, Miya, Acola, Sparg0, Sonix, and Leo, that tournament could be an A tier, since there is only 6 good players which will of course be in top 8, there are 2 spots remainig for the top 8, so you can find in there KKRool or Ganondorf, or something weird lol.
@amazing11127 күн бұрын
I agree with you but he didn’t say what you said. Tweek had some viable opinions but he didn’t argue them well
@someoneelse13486 күн бұрын
But that doesn't happen? The only thing close to that was the first Luminosity Invitational that had 10 players, which one was Hbox, and nobody thinks that Hbox did incredible for tecnically doing top 12 (or top 10 in this case lol) in a major. The event mentioned there was GSA, tournament that although had a pretty low attendance for a major, had lots of European top talent (most notably Creepe, Sisqui, Raflow, Supahsemmie, AndresFN and many, many others) + some international ones (Raru, Snow, Doramigi and Asimo from Japan, Lima and Shadic from USA), so doing top 8 at an event like that is definitely very hard and has lots of merit, even more with a character like K. Rool. Plus, although I know that your case is an hyperbole, the ranking values wins over placements, so getting top 8 at an event like that would not affect that much (plus getting a tournament tiered as a major is really hard, you need both a great hand of top player and LOTS of high level ones that count points to be considered as one).

Ultimate is still definitely a great party game, there's a lot of room to make some wacky rulesets for casual play! My young siblings made up a ruleset where everyone picks Donkey Kong, only Pokéballs are enabled, one stock, and Temple is picked as a stage. No one is allowed to attack except for using Pokéballs (with some exceptions like Ditto or Victini). 😄
@Money4Nuthing6 күн бұрын
I feel like Ultimate's meta is fairly healthy in the sense that 18 different mains are present within the global top 20 players. There are certainly broken, toxic, and overrepresented characters but at the end of the day, non S-tier characters are succeeding at a high level.
@thecreepingbam7 күн бұрын
I actually agree with Tweet about the tier level of tournaments, this needs a rebranding and reevaluated,... you cannot have an A+ tier tournament weekly, it's contradicting and promotes burnout on the top competitors... I love smash and disagree that some characters are soulless. they might annoying, but soulless is too much hyperbole. Tweek might be burned out but with no option to stop and that's why his opinions are so harsh, I feel, but it could be that he actually feels like he says. Great video, please work on the audio of the people reading out the questions, I could barely hear you guys, I have a hard time reading on a video. Sure, but when you actually watch Marss play in tourney on stream, you’ll see how hard he’s exaggerating. Maybe what he’s saying is true for round 1/2, but those rounds are typically considered low level Top level does have cheese, but it’s nowhere near that prevalent

I know it’s popular to complain in smash, but proof is in the rankings. In the entire top ten there’s not a single repeat true main. In the top 15 Steve, a supposedly “super overpowered” character, appears twice and only because syrup went crazy last season. As much as pros and content creators try to say they know the meta, it’s very common for somehow huge discoveries in characters. Asimo and Ryu, Shadic and Corrin, Raru and Luigi etc. supposedly low tier characters who now have entire perspectives changed. That’s a healthy meta. Long story short, if you complain your game has 10-20 overpowered characters, your meta is fine because they’re all competitive. Even after 6 years smash isn’t close to being “solved.” Last thing, you’re not assigned characters. If certain characters were that overpowered and easy to pick up, a lot more people would play them. As great as Marss is, his Steve gameplay pretty lackluster, just shows you can’t pick up an “op” character in smash and do well competitively all of a sudden. Online sucks for sure, and there’s nothing to do if you’re trying to practice as single player (CPU’s too unrealistic/bad)
@amazing11127 күн бұрын
Totally agree. Well said
@elitecombine53737 күн бұрын
It is true. I also want to add something that is not as relevant to this. I think it is just competition in general it feels like what we thought was solved or stagnant in competition seems to be changing once again. Chess, Boxing, marvel rivals, TF2, etc. Idk what it is but something in us seemed to have leveled up. You just need a different approach applied by a good player and it just changes.
@lifestyle8076 күн бұрын
Smash 4's ranking ended similarly, though, with way fewer characters to play than ultimate. Yet people said that Bayo killed the game. The rankings aren't the best way to judge the game. The issue people had with Smash 4 (and to a lesser degree ultimate) was that the best character was seen everywhere in tournaments, not always necessarily the rankings, but in pools and top 64, etc.

I'll answer along cause why not 1. The meta is in a healthy place (disagree) - While there is a lot of variety, there's a certain playstyle that continues throughout the game and it's all about touch of death of stalling to the highest degree, which is why steve is at the top cause he can do both. But it's not a fun meta to participate in. I like a more neutral heavy game and I find that more engaging than high aggression and the meta just has a lot of emphasis on getting your touch of death vs earning your touch of death. 2. I am burnt out on smash (agree) - I still have fun with the game and enjoy it but it's difficult to play the game alone. There's only so much to do and I really don't like the online. I enjoy it with friends but that's about it. I might like it more if I could find time to go to tournies but I just can't spend my spare time doing it when I got other things to do. And I still play games but keeping up with a fighting game I don't compete in nor is it fun online is a recipe for just dropping it. In a world with more time, I would probably go to tournies still tho. I never really did get a chance to really participate in the local scene to a degree that would grant growth 3. I wish I mained a different character (strongly disagree) - I adore my character, PT. There isn't anyone else in the game that makes me feel as successful and gives me that level of fun. The only downside is that the character was not made for the meta. This character would have done better in Smash 4 and that meta. They do alright here but just don't have the touch of death so easily granted nor can stall well at all. Get edged out by characters that do those things better. 4. Player rankings are important (agree) - I think it's a good way to indicate how one is doing in the scene and gives clarity to watchers on who's doing well. It helps you find a player with your main and watch them. I do think some people put too much emphasis on it, especially with the arbitrary algorithms but it's cool as a game within a game. 5. The next game will be amazing (agree) - I do think the concerns and criticisms of the game are all valid. I have the same ones and it's been an issue since day 1. I do think they'll deliver on core gameplay again and that it will satisfy the community at large. I do think how they achieve that will determine it's longevity. I am one for a reboot and a complete reimagining of the kits. I would like something more dramatic done to shake things up, even if it's not my favorite. The benefit is that it seems the Switch 2 is backwards compatible so Ult would still be available very easily. Anyways, a new director and at least a soft reboot should give plenty of fuel to keep the game moving forward, especially if they keep competitive considered in its design. The problem with ult is that it felt like the party mode centered around people playing the game competitive still. There was so much less fun and creative game modes for casuals to play. Brawl could be played endlessly because they focussed so much on making the game fun at home, even without friends. And all that fun alone stuff, could be played with a friend. But I do think they'll deliver, just how much is the question.

Rankings for smash are important, it's more that the ranking system for smash isn't good. You're ranking is very much determine by how good your runs are in an S or A tier tournament event, even though you could've had fantastic results at many of the B or C tier tournament events. It should be a points system of ranking rather than a placement at every tournament ranking.

Ultimate players are so much more down on their game than Melee players which is a shame. And I agree from a competitive standpoint. As a casual give me Ultimate all day but, competitively, it's not very interesting to watch with all the super lame top characters. I just don't watch Steve games anymore, I don't enjoy them, even a grand finals. In melee I'll watch any top 8 match from a decent tournament.

Melee is def down. You can hear it in the comms. They talk about everything but the match

when tweek says a tourny happening all the time shouldnt make it a major i think hes right even if alot of top talent is there, because if the tourny happens all the time it wont be taken as seriously. if a major is happening every month and top players go to every one of them because they need to to maintain rankings and get prize money, a random krool player who only enters one tourny every 3 months might have an advantage because theyre taking it more seriously and they arent as burnt out
@jinxeatsdust7 күн бұрын
you realize the monthly tournament becoming a major is in japan where there is no prize money and the only real reason anyone goes is for fun 😭 they 1000% take that shit seriously over there
@elitecombine53737 күн бұрын
I do understand where that side is coming from. I do feel like majors happening all the time make it less interesting. Imagine if the Olympics happened every year or 6 months it would be less interesting. I think they need to work around a system for it to be more interesting. Maybe limiting the amount of majors that happen a year and spreading them out around the world and a super major at the end of the year.
@jinxeatsdust7 күн бұрын
@@elitecombine5373 I don't really understand this perspective im ngl, smash ultimate is a global game, multiple regions have strong players that can host major events now. The olympics analogy works best with P tiers which are significantly less prevalent

@@elitecombine5373Your perspective is literally all subjective fairy tales nonsense. We have to stay rooted in the objective reality where there is a ton of talent there.
