Hey everyone - thanks for watching episode 2 of Spectrum! Regardless of our own opinions, we aim to create a safe space to share a diversity of other opinions. Editor's Note: We've flipped the visual image in the edit because we found it was confusing to have "Agree" on the left and "Disagree" on the right. As a result, any text on clothing is flipped, but aside from that, no alterations have been made and the participants' responses are true and accurate. Apologies for the inconvenience and hope you understand!

not the black guy saying he wants equal rights for gay people but then says they shouldn’t be able to marry-
@ianmeadows69414 жыл бұрын
I think what he meant to say is that the government shouldn’t be involved in the marriage business at all. There are a lot flaws with it such as when your single financially your discriminated against by being forced to pay higher taxes compared to married couples. Another is that in other states the one with the most money has the pay other for the rest of their life’s until they married, which creates this loophole where if you do find a partner you can choose not to get married and still take money from the other person.
@aaronlee63614 жыл бұрын
@@ianmeadows6941 yea but you do realize not allowing gay people to marry regardless of being the decision of government is discriminatory right? That's what I thought.
@ianmeadows69414 жыл бұрын
@@aaronlee6361 I have no problems with gay people getting married, I just think in general the government should stay out of marriage. Unless someone is trying to form a union between an adult & child or human & animal than they should intervene.

@@ianmeadows6941 I wasn't accusing you of not being in support of gay marriage (but I will admit my comment seemed more aggressive than intended, sorry.) I was trying to bring back the point that either way its discrimination with all of these tax benefits and stuff tend to go a bit off topic.
@aaronlee63614 жыл бұрын
@@ianmeadows6941 although I would like a clearer definition of what you call discrimination. If married couple benefit from their marriage, why is that discrimination against single populace? Why is it not just a benefit of marriage? Or is it both? My definition of discrimination leans more towards something you can't control, as you do have some agency over whom you're (legally) married to.

Oh you mean when most of the slaves were still slaves even though it was illegal and if they tried to assert their rights as citizens they were killed, or when the civil rights movement didn’t actually provide civil rights and if they tried to assert their rights they were killed, or when women were finally given the right to vote but still discrimated against for asserting their rights, oh and when women were still paid less than their male counterparts ( oh yeah that’s still happening), or when the new deal creating one of the worst deficits in the federal budget in history but didn’t actually quell the unemployment crisis, and the food and drugs act, what about it exactly? Now I’m not saying some of these things didn’t move us ahead but they literally came about as a way to fix a problem America caused itself. NASA study in late 2017- mass gains of ice sheets greater than losses
@aliceje1266 жыл бұрын
@@lol-pf9dr This is based on the study of one scientist from 2015, which is already dis-proven (even by himself). The latest results (from a collaboration of 80 something scientists worldwide combining and calculating all their latest data) show clearly that there are enormous ice losses, which are only growing each year. Climate should not be a matter of 'non-existent' until proven otherwise. There results clearly indicate the high high high probability of the planet going seriously haywire if we as humans don't try to do better. Us living here on this beautiful planet is a gift and we are letting it go to waste because we cannot come together. It just makes you lose faith in humanity.
@ajgerbi6 жыл бұрын
Donald Trump / most Trump supporters believe in climate change, but it’s the belief that it isn’t because of increased amounts of CO2 released into the atmosphere. Since Ice caps on other planets such as mars and Jupiter are melting as well, it is believed that it’s he suns cycle (just like has it’s always been, even during the mini ice age) and CO2 in the atmosphere always increases after Temperature increases. So yes, there could be human effect on climate change in the world, but many who don’t think there is, think it’s just the sun’s cycle.

Despite how it seems, you are only describing a loud minority of liberals. That's just what conservative media reports and blows out of proportion. Not the normal people. The same goes for the other side and especially when discussing identity politics. Most people agree on fundamental humanistic values. We just have different ways of understanding, and applying these values. We're further driven apart by media manipulation and our own ignorance. Eventually, we're so far removed from each other, that our shared goals are completely hidden behind a total inability to communicate effectively, without emotion or judgement. With patience, self-awareness and humility.

Ndinku N'Jadaka you asked a generalizing, widely insulting rhetorical question. You’re literally equating support of a president to distinct character flaws. It is a passive (at best) insult to those who choose to support Trump. I would not characterize that sort of claim as innocuous or benign. You can support whomever you please, but the support cannot -in this sort of case- be rightfully identified as a consequence of poor personal qualities.
