Ppl have died or injure themselves beneath their cars during maintenance, so hopefully u guys practice safety precautions before attempting. In case somebody tries… Understand how to use ur equipment. E Brake on, add wheel chocks/brick block to block back of rear wheels to prevent rolling. Flat surface better than on driveway slope, especially that downward angle might affect flow direction of the oil that is draining. U want to empty as much as possible. That jack could go from an angle if u dont have room, doesn’t have to be straight in the middle, as long as it is mounted in correct spot. But more room is best. Better to have more jack stands if u can or a tire. Owning a wheeled creeper is safer to escape & easier on ur body to roll out and grab tools than a mat. Catch a good sale at Harbor freight. WD-40 spray or any penetrant helps loosen stuck drain bolt. Brake cleaner spray for all that oil debris. Change engine & cabin air filters too, it’s like cleaning lint on the mesh tray after clothes dry, helps airflow to the engine if it is clean. Have fun learning and fixing ur ride! stay safe

An oil filter tool would make life so much easier as well as a longer breaker bar for the drain plug. I always get the filter on Hondas from under the car. You could also use a filter relocation kit to make life easier just keep in mind you might have to add a little extra oil for the added lines. Also taking your car to the car wash, jacking it up and power washing underneath will take that leaky oil away with ease😎 I always loosen the filter first and let it drip while the oil drains out of the pan so it’s less messy

Tip on pouring from 5 quart jugs… you get a little better of a pour (less splashing/glugging) when you tip the container on its side rather than straight like that.
@donnysan698 күн бұрын
Just a friendly tip since i see other people spreading good advice too. Next time you do an oil change make sure you replace the oil plug washer, replace it with a copper washer. The metal is soft enough so that when you torque it down it squishes the metal to make a good, tight seal. Not a terribly big deal, just something to keep in mind for next time! Loving the content though!

Great to see people doing their oil changes. Here are some things I would recommend: - Wheel chock: No matter if you use ramp or the hydraulic jack, it will help prevent the car from slipping backwards. - Gloves: It helps to keep the oil out of your hand. - Any old, long sleeve shirt: Again, to help keep oil out of your arm. Edit: For anyone who saw this comment prior to the edit, I've now noticed jack stands being used.

the civic desperately needs new or softer motor/transmission mounts i would recommend going stock specially since this is more like a daily, and an quieter exhaust which could be a greedy old stock or something oldschool japanese but make sure that it has resinators and a big muffler to quiet this this down, those vibrations and exhaust drone is crazy. a mod that would make the civic way nicer to drive would be a interior revamp with keyless entry and a sound system upgrade, nothing crazy but some speakears front and rear with a small sub with a nice amp and a nice headunit with android auto/apple car play, it would make the civic a lot more enjoayble to drive, and all these mods are not that expensive if you buy the parts and diy.

Please check that your oil filter is tightened to spec. Tightening it with oily finger tips only won't be enough. According to the service manual of my motorcycle, you tighten the filter by hand until it touches, and then do two full turns, or alternatively use a torque wrench to tighten to spec. I don't know if two full turns is a general rule for all vehicles, but in any case what you did on camera wasn't nearly enough. I got a cap that fits on the end of the oil filter that you can plug a socket wrench / torque wrench into.

Boo oil, and good job! If you have all the tools laying around already an oil change is definitely worth doing it yourself. if not and you have to buy some stuff at first, it does add up. But in the end after 2 or 3 times of doing your oil change yourself, the tools paid for themselves plus the oil change charges at a shop will add up as well. Granted on some cars it isn't the most easy thing to reach sometimes. So then it gets a bit more challenging.
