Thank you for your thoughtful and honest words. I didn't go for Trump but I did find that I had to leave three churches because of his influence on the congregants and on the pastors who found themselves serving Trump rather than Jesus. It's deeply painful.

I give anyone a lot of credit for having the courage to start a channel, especially knowing it will probably be a good while until viewership grows. 3) Being 74, I am happy to see more mature people willing to try something new and embrace what many reject. 4) I try to leave even brief comments for people. It not only encourages them not to give up, but it also helps the channel in some way. 4) Mostly, because he mentioned becoming friends with individuals who might disagree with you. I recently heard this, "Any message where Jesus is the means but not the goal is not Christianity. It is idolatry." I absolutely love this quote because you can test any "Christian" movement this way. Is Jesus the goal in the churches that preach prosperity? Is He the goal of Christian nationalism? Is He the goal of Trumpism? No. He's simply a means for them to achieve what they want (prosperity, peace, safety, a better economy, worldly political power, Trump to rule over them, etc.).

Thank you for your sensitive, calm explanation. Two in my family are deeply involved in MAGA. It has changed their sweet personalities & caused painful, heartbreaking divisions within our once close relationships. Your message gives me hope. Even my beloved Bible College began pushing Trump into their curriculum & I reluctantly stopped supporting them financially after 11 years. You have cleared up much confusion in my heart & I am grateful🙌🙏🇺🇸

You mention the epistle of St James. I don't see how any Christian could read James 5:1-6 and then vote for the Republican party. "Christian Republican" is an oxymoron. BTW, Trump stated in an on-camera interview that he's never asked God for forgiveness in his life. The one thing you must do to be a Christian is to admit that you've erred and ask God for forgiveness. So Trump is categorically not a Christian ipso facto.

The Lords Prayer “Give us, this day, our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses.” Jesus taught us this prayer. I’ll bet my Mini Cooper that Trump cannot recite the Lords Prayer. And it doesn’t surprise me that he’s never asked for forgiveness. “It all happens naturallistically, what’s the need for a God? Can’t I set my own rules? Who owns me? I own myself.” “Religion is such a great thing it’s so it keeps you know there’s something to be good about you want to be good you wanna it’s so important I don’t know if it’s explained right I don’t know if I’m explaining it right you know you want to be good you want to go to heaven when you have something like that you want to go to heaven OK so you want to go to heaven so if we don’t have heaven OK you almost say what’s the reason why do I have to be good let’s not be good what difference does it make.” Sound similar? The first is an excerpt from: If God is Good by Randy Alcorn. The words are of notorious sexual predator and cannibal Jeffrey Dahmer. The second paragraph is Trump, Stable Genius’ word salad dated June 2024. If I were Trump, I’d retire from politics and start asking for forgiveness now, before it’s too late.

I had a similar experience with the struggle of something as simple as change in how I dress. Oddly enough I believe I finally got the guts after I started questioning my views on MAGA and seeing how it's taken hold of people. I was a very tomboyish girl and very masculine sort of women until i was about 38. Probably could count on one hand how many times I wore a dress in my life. I wanted too ...i very much admired older dressing fashion...but also wasn't known for that. But I started feeling convicted to wear only shirts and dresses for personal reasons. This is a personal conviction and in no way do I believe other women need to. I believe my conviction is because of this hold of ways that I had over me. You explained it better than I can. Anyway, I was shocked at the response when I first showed up at church wearing a dress. I felt I had to explain myself to my mother in law. I told her I felt a conviction to only wear skirts and dresses from now on. The response was shocking. Almost before I finished, she haughtily responded, "well, I'm not giving up my pants!". My thought was, 'this isn't about you and who said you had to?'. My response was, "why would you have to? You've always dressed more girly than me." She seemed to be pleased with that compliment. But I immediately saw that maybe a pants fast would do my mother in law some good too! Who knew shed be so defensive over her pants. Suddenly I realized a person can be a legalistic anti-legalist! When we take so much pride in stuff like that...where it controls your decision making....maybe you need to go through some uncomfortable times for a bit. Me wearing dresses and skirts for the first time was VERY uncomfortable. But now, I don't think anything of it other than noticing the constant COMPLIMENTS I get now. I didn't do it for that at all. In fact, I didn't do it to begin with because I also hated being the center of attention. I mean, how many women wear dresses anymore? I actually had one women stop me and thank me for wearing a dress. She said she misses seeing women wear dresses. I've had a man or two say the same. I did too. So I started wearing them. Now my son likes old hats like you do. But he has told me he feels silly thinking of wearing them. He's afraid he'll be teased. We recently started homeschooling in the last few years so he's felt more freedom to be himself but my changing my dress code has allowed him to dress as he likes. I told him it might feel weird at first but don't go most of your life not doing something you want just because you're afraid of what others might think. Be you now. So he is! We have to set these examples. Now I am also setting the example for my son's to vote as they wish. They both don't like Trump now too. But they know we're still in a hardcore Trump loving family.

Do Christian leaders that have spoken truth through the years realize what they are doing to the pew sitters that have listened to them ? You have taught me the word of God and now hold up for someone who totally does not have Christian principles or even practice the walk we walk as Christian’s. It’s mind boggling to me that any Christian would follow him. I The church to me don’t believe that the preaching of the gospel is enough to change the heart of the homosexual or the young lady that would abort a child so they need the government to help . Only the gospel will change the heart and not a forced law. Maybe the law curtails it but it will still be. Because sin has a power that only God can stop. Delivered from the power of darkness and translated into the kingdom of Gods dear son. Let’s reach one at a time with the gospel. Christian leaders have totally turn me off to their teaching because of their support for such a one as the ex president. A thoughtful and well presented discussion on this critical issue for all Christians. One other aspect of the "herd mentality" is wanting to be a part of a "winner." Many MAGA supporters simply want to be part of a winner and/or want to help support someone who is presumed to be the winner ie. Donald Trump. Like being a fan of your hometown sports team I suppose. I've always been reluctant to push the matter any further by asking if we have so little faith in God that we'd rather use the world's tactics when advancing the church's agenda; would that be the first crack in their right-wing information bubble, or the first crack in our familial relationship? Perhaps it's time to overcome my reluctance to use Facebook and start sharing videos (like yours and a few others) that take a stand against Trump from a mainstream Evangelical perspective.

A book that challenged me back while Bush W was still in the White House was Tempting Faith by David Kuo. He was an evangelical Christian who was a staffer of Bush and a speech writer for other Republicans. But he got a diagnosis of brain cancer and that suddenly caused hi to re-evaluate his priorities and felt convicted by God to write the book. He challenged evangelical Christians to not let the GOP take them for granted or things would get worse. He even gave advice on what we should do (and no it wasn't necessarily vote for Dems). But nobody paid attention. I believe if we had back then we wouldn't be where we are now. Kuo has since died from his cancer. But his book is also an entertaining read -- he is a good story teller. Kasich was my candidate of choice in '16. The problem was, there were multiple candidates in the R primaries, all of them splitting the 'evangelical' (whatever that means) vote. By no means was Trump getting a majority of those--in fact Cruz was typically the winner of that category of voters. But Trump was was winning state after state despite rarely winning a majority of evangelicals. So Trump got the nomination, and Republican voters (evangelical and all other categories) had to either vote for him in the General, switch parties and vote D, or not vote at all. Exit polling shows Trump won the majority of E's in the General, but we may never know how many were voting for the person, or holding their noses and voting for Republican policies. By 2020, the majority of evangelicals 'voting overwhelmingly for Trump' have been demonstrated to not even be church-going individuals. They are CINO's--Christians in name only. This topic is incredibly nuanced, but there's a lot of money to be made, and name recognition to be achieved, by overlooking that nuance and jumping on the anti-Trump freight train. Make no mistake--the Democrat party is benefiting greatly by dividing the evangelical vote. Whether that's a positive or a negative remains to be seen.

@@jills1521 a lot of big name evangelicals endorsed him in 16 and 20, some even suggesting it was a sin not to vote for him - Franklin Graham, Jerry Fallwell, Robert Jeffress, Bill Johnson, Brian Houston I agree that some of his support is from cultural Christians, but it doesn't explain most of his evangelical supporters. Polling suggests his popularity amongst Evangelicals has increased as a result of Jan 6th. The more extreme Evangelicals do not believe in democracy and freedom of religion. So although Trumps authoritarianism and contempt for the law is a discouragement to some, it encourages those people more.

I think it boils down to abortion really...and, well, some Christian Nationalists have come to a belief that America is a covenant nation too and, through false prophets and false apostles theyve come to believe that God chose Trump...that he is annointed to "Save America". This means our borders have to be protected all the more. They forget that Christianity doesn't end at our borders and God created other nations too. I would say it's a distortion of theology but some of what they believe isn't even in the Bible...it's "new revelations" so I wouldn't even call it theology. What is theology is grossly twisted because nobody reads their Bibles anymore. Sort of like how there are Amish people leaving the Amish ways because now they dare read a Bible in English instead of the German they don't that their traditional Bible is written in. Now suddenly they can see that Christianity isn't works based because when they actually read the Bible and in context, it says something different than what theyve been taught. But, they are shunned for changing their views. Oddly enough, the Christians who would rebuke a fellow Christian for voting democrat would likely look at an Amish person and say, " how dare they shun their family for following Christ." Yet they won't think twice about doing it to their own family for following their convictions. The scary part is, we are susceptible to this hypocrisy ourselves...we've likely committed this hypocrisy ourselves at least once in our lives!

I am a Christian and a progressive, and believe in separation of church and state, because those two together, is a lethal combination. The separation is to protect government from the church, and the church from the government and those who want to abuse both. I appreciate your love and concern to help pull people away from the authoritarian movement. So to me, to be truly pro-life, You must focus on all aspects of life, not just focus on abortion. If you only focus on abortion, you are pro birth, not pro life. If you know anything about Trump’s history, you will have long ago understood , he’s for himself and himself only, not for America, not for you and me. He is a self-centered, narcissist. Mixed in with Scheiden Freiden.

Beautiful. This has been a profoundly reasoned presentation. Unfortunately I lay the blame on pastors for laying a foundation of "salvation by works" that so many Christians now adhere to. That's the only reason they could threaten you with the fires of hell for your not subscribing to their understanding of how to stand up for the sanctity of life. Let us not despair however, as though we are in this fight without God. He is well able- beyond what we can ask or imagine

If the evangelical church, and the leaders of the time, hadn't allowed Reagan to politicize them around 1980, the church wouldn't been in this state. (Reagan and GOP operatives wanted to move all the evangelical base over to him as a voting block. He wanted to use them to beat evangelical President Jimmy Carter.)

I recently learned a story about how Jerry Falwell attacked Jimmy Carter for providing Playboy Magazine an interview. In that interview, we who know Christ, know that Jimmy Carter represented the teachings of Christ well. Carter was asked if he had ever committed adultery. He told the interviewer that he had committed adultery in his heart--the he had lustfully looked at a woman. Think about that, Carter is not only citing scripture and commandments, he is a tool of God for those who buy the magazine to look upon women in the same manner. There in the pages of Playboy, Jimmy Carter is reminding readers they are committing a sin. It gets printed. Falwell through a fit, and the rest is history. A number of years later, we know the story with his son Jerry Falwell Jr., and we also know how they posed with Donald Trump in his office with a framed Playboy in the background with a picture of Trump looking lustfully at one of the Playmates. I am a Reagan conservative, but I have a lot more respect for Jimmy Carter as a good Christian man. I see through the need for political power that many in the church idolize.

I recently sent one of your posts to a good friend who was very pro Trump in 2016. We disagreed then as I was deeply uncomfortable about him, especially watching his inauguration. We decided not to discuss him again but I wondered if she still felt the same way now in 2024. I was mystified, shocked and disappointed to discover that she is even more entrenched than ever. The whole issue has obviously resurfaced but I find the gulf has widened to the extent that I don’t feel I can continue the relationship. 😢

Retired Pastor here: I think a well-intentioned church government has an unintended consequence. In my church I’m called by the congregation, but approved by, and a member of, a different church body. Of course, I wouldn’t stay at a church where I’m not wanted but, in case of conflict, I’m allowed a transition process. BOTTOM LINE: In a congregational government the congregation hires and fires. There’s pressure, therefore, for the pastor to preach what the congregation wants or he (or she, less often) is out of a job; hence the pressure to do what the majority, RIGHT OR WRONG, wants.

Yup, my mom said the other day, I read my Bible today and it describes exactly what is going on today in the White House with Biden. I said mom, the Bible isn't to confirm your world view and need for earthly power. It is to provide you with God's world view and his commandment for you to surrender your worldly world view.

The most difficult thing about an absolutist approach to abortion is that pregnancy is a medical condition, and many things can go wrong to get from conception to delivering a healthy child. Some of the things that go wrong can require terminating the pregnancy to prevent the death of the mother or because the child would be unable to live in any case. That the pro-life movement adamantly refuses to recognize this and instead wraps their stance in dogmatic doctrine makes it very hard to support their point of view.
@lhprovence
@lhprovence 5 ай бұрын
What is missing completely in the anti- abortion discussion, is the total lack of laws that impact males in life changing ways as they do women. This seems to make this not an issue of the sanctity of human life, but rather and issue of equality and reversal of the progress we had made in equal rights of men and women. The story in John 8 about the woman who was dragged into the public market place to be stoned for adultery comes to mind. Jesus‘ response could be our model for understanding the complex issue of unplanned pregnancies in our time. The evangelicals have for decades rallied around laws to protect the sanctity of life, all the while being silent and avoiding dialogue on equally impactful laws regarding male reproductive behavior. After all, there was only one immaculate conception.

P.S. I like your hat! But even if nobody else in the world liked it, you should still wear it. We were all created to be different and unique. That is what makes life interesting. We express our unique selves in so many ways that make like better for others. Maybe somebody else thinks that way you did - then sees you wearing your hat and thinks, "Well, by golly, if he can wear his, I can wear one, too". We all grant others the freedom to be themselves when we do that same.

Will your next video address the question of whether Christians need permission to choose Jesus over Biden? Or, perhaps, you will address whether Christians choosing Jesus looks like choosing to not vote at all? Christ-followers have much to consider beyond the person when casting a vote. What will governing look like under the person? What impacts will their policy positions have on the country? Will their policy preferences advance or diminish human flourishing? What are their positions on education? On job creation? On taxes? On the military? On social security? God gave us rational minds to analyze and consider these things. As Bible-believing Christians, we of all people know the candidate pool from which we will choose includes ONLY imperfect sinners like ourselves. There is much to consider in casting our vote that goes far beyond the flawed candidate nominated by our fellow citizens. I hope you also taught your daughter this truth when you and she exercised this important societal responsibility. (I am NOT a Trump fan, btw)

My life parallels yours, except I never became a pastor. Im a teacher. I was getting uncomfortable when I saw Christian friends posting wicket things about Obama. I didn’t understand it. It was such un-Christ like behavior. Because I was already concerned, as soon as the Republican Party picked Trump, I thought they had lost their minds. How could they pick someone so vile. He was a crook, a cheat, and an adulterer. I remember telling a good friend that Trump would never give up the power once he got it, but that friend voted for him anyway. But I could not. Like you, I couldn’t get myself to vote for Clinton either. Since then, I’ve become much more secure and comfortable with voting blue, and I’ve been called every imaginable thing. However, I’m still very much much a Christian-a much stronger Christian now then I ever had been. And like you, I feel set free from something that was and still is inherently bad. The bottom line is your videos have been a huge encouragement and have helped me. After listening to this one, I thought I should tell you. But the truth is I’m listening every day. Thank you.

Personally, I don’t know anyone who is a hardcore Trump supporter. I live in Québec, and we’re a progressive lot here, so anyone bragging about having abortion banned would not be popular. I think access to property performed abortions is a necessary evil because the reality is a lot more complex than just killing babies or protecting the unborn. We don’t understand all the implications, and we should leave it to those who do. I don’t want to cause a pregnant woman to bleed out because doctors will put their own careers before a woman’s need for medical attention. And what truly caring Christian would want to put a woman’s life in jeopardy over things they don’t know?
