I am a DJ first, producer second however... the more I make music the more I get excited about it. When times are slow on the gig side of things, I'm pretty heavy in the studio. As a house and techno artist, producing is super big in this scene. WIll be releasing my first official EP in a couple of weeks.

I don’t produce, but I do audio edits in order to push out video edits for the Video DJs out there. I started audio editing because I also wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone as a video editor and make cool hype intros and Redrums and transitions. I’m currently using Ableton. My plans are to learn how to produce my own music. I bought the MPC-1000 back in 2010 because I was inspired by “Boon Doc”. I need to step up my skill set.

I've always wanted to make my own music but DJaying was one of these things I was just into from the start of my breakdancing days. It seems like every kid who thinks oh yea I can DJ just goes out and buys a laptop.controller and some speakers/sound system and starts playing at parties for little to no money. They will always have gigs because there are always cheap people but the right DJ stands out A LOT when he's got records or at least mixes (I think) but it doesn't mean they must. It's just a big bonus on another level.

I just collaborated yesterday with my friend, because I know how to rock a crowd, but I don’t know how to make music. And my friend is a producer and he knows what should he does

I’ve been DJing for 30 plus years and I have very slightly dabbled with production. Nothing serious or distributed outside of Record Pools and friends. Now I am focusing on production because I still enjoy spinning a sound that is not produced as often any longer (NYC Latin/Afro/Deep House Music).

I'm a DJ and just love to lissen to good music. Altho I sometimes have an idea for a music I never wanted to produce, I know making good music would take me like >1500h of my life, and I'm not putting that time for the 2 ideas I have in my head and doing something I don't really want to. Then if I get to a point in my carrer where it might help me advance, I sure will.

I'm a DJ first and will always practice to keep my DJ skills sharp. My goal is to create music for placement in commercials and films. Currently I'm teaching myself how to make beats while discovering my sound. Dj'ing is great but it wasn't my goal to stay with just Dj'ing when I got into this. Placement, music supervision and sound designing are my goals. If anyone has advice, I'd like to hear it.

I'm producing more because I've always wanted to. I see DJing and producing as brother and sister arts. Both help each other. DJs know what the floor likes, producers know how to make what the floor will likes. In House music you MUST produce or else you'll never get any meaningful paying gigs.

Pauly D. LMAO!!! Is he still having the time of his life? Both, doing it 'cause I want to step my career! I wanna play festival and if you don't produce, forget about it! Also, nothing feels better than playing one of your track and seeing the crowd lose it!

I think it's good to have produce as well as DJ but isn't essential. What is pretty good in my opinion is bringing in your own live elements during a set, not necessarily an entire track. I'm not a scratch or hiphop dj so cannot speak for those but in my genre which is UK Hard House/Hard Trance i'm seeing more DJ's having more than just decks in the booth. It's great creating your own builds or drops in a set. I started djing in the 90s and that came from promoting my own events, and the producing side i just fell in to. It really wasn't a thing back then to DJ and produce. These days i suppose it'll be a talking point like using the sync button. 'Unless you produce and dj, you're not a DJ'. What BS.

if you need to produce that a damn shame!! In my opinion I feel like that ish will work for EDM for one you don't need a Artist to sing a damn thing. house is 50/50 the same thing.Soca , Reggae , Dancehall and Rap you can't run up in a party talking about you play a just a beat...somebody will pelt a bottle at you'r damn head Especially Soca , Reggae & Dancehall. and not Soca is not REGGAE or DANCEHALL.
