I'm the same, I really can't stand domestic thrillers/suspense novels. I work in a very large bookstore chain and they keep pushing those books to my greatest disdain. So I curate displays of classic style mysteries and detective crime fiction to counterbalance the section 🤣

I want to thank you. I watched your best mysteries of 2023 mysteries youtube video and Richard Osman's fourth Thursday Club mystery was your top mystery for 2023. Based on your recommendation I read "The Last Devil to Die." I cried for whole chapters. It, too, is my favorite novel of 2023. Thank-you for recommending this wonderful, touching mystery novel.

I loved I Have Some Questions For You, stayed up until 5am finishing it in one sitting. But I agree it is improperly marketed, it’s 100% lit fic, which was what I was expecting having read the authors previous work. Great video as always and can’t wait for part 2!!

When you got to His and Hers on the list and got this mischievous glint in your eye, I laughed so hard and thought, oh boy, here we go, lol. I was definitely hoping you'd pick it because even though I like Alice Fenney's books, I still find your spicy takes on them entertaining, lol. And hey, third time's the charm, or curse? lol. "Six teens murdered" I also laughed, but mostly because I also let out an intrigued (albeit less excited) "Oooh" 😆 I really enjoyed this video and the whole concept. I can't wait for the second part!

The Rebecca Makkai is coming off my library TBR after hearing you say it's more lit-fic. I read strictly for entertainment and rarely find lit-fic to be my kind of entertainment. Oh well..... hopefully you'll have better luck in the next round and I'll find so something more to my taste then. I appreciate your ability to articulate what it is you like or don't about books because it helps me narrow down if it would work for me.

The premise of The Plot just makes me roll my eyes every time I hear it. I think I've seen too many authors comment on that person who comes up to them with this great opportunity! They have a terrific idea for a book. Guaranteed to be a bestseller. If the author just writes it for them, they'll split the profits 50/50! The Plot sounds exactly like that scenario to me.

Quick comment to say I really enjoyed this video and I admire how much you know about the mystery genre. I wasn’t totally sure how I felt about The Plot, either!! I put off rating it for months, and I think I ended up giving it 4 stars because I was like, if it put that much of a bug up my ass about how I even felt about it, it merited the recognition. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Weird reading experience!!

I really loved The Push, I thought I wouldn't like it, thinking it is mother-daughter toxic relationship, but it is not what I thought at all. When I hear about BAParis, I cannot stop thiking about the Breakdown, it's not bad book, but I knew what would happen on page 12! Because it reminded me of an Agatha Christie book (and we know our Agatha so well 😆) That's why I'm putting off reading another book by her haha. You can try it sometime

Harlan Coben is very enjoyable generally. He's a fun, quick read. The I Have Some Questions was giving me mis-marketed lit fiction vibes. Glad I now have confirmation. 😉 I have the Frieda McFadden, The Housemaid, on my TBR. I liked The Maid and I was getting some of those vibes from it. Foley and Feeney are Not for me. 😏 And I don't typically like a domestic thriller or missing/abused child scenario. I'm usually a more "classic mystery" reader. Give me a PI/detective or police procedural any day. Of course, I'm also a huge series reader too. So I do like Louise Penny though I'm not interested in her collaboration with Clinton. I like the Gamache series. I like Cleeves too. All of her series are enjoyable. I love Deborah Crombie's Kincade series. Or I need a busy body mystery solver or group of them, like Rita Mae Brown, Alexander McCall or Richard Osman. None of those were on my TBR radar, and they continue to be off the screen. 😂
