I'm trying to start an Internet radio station in the Dominican Republic and I wanted to also go to cover the United States and Canada so what type of license would I have to apply for and I'm going to be playing commercial music as well as popular music as well?
@Radiodotco4 жыл бұрын
Search online or contact a local government body to ask about radio broadcasting licenses in the Dominican Republic. Licensing bodies here in the UK, like PPL, cover broadcasts online and out to other countries like the USA, Canada, and even the Dominican Republic, so it should work in the same way in most countries. If you have a question or need hand, then email studio@radio.co.

Some great advice but the info I need is regarding use of music on KZbin. I've contacted the PRS and PPL and asked about using copyrighted material on KZbin and what license I need. They told me to read KZbin's term's of agreement!!! Not a lot of help. Do you have any info on that beside choosing a plan?
@Radiodotco6 жыл бұрын
Use of music from KZbin depends on the license. PRS, for example, have a deal with KZbin to cover royalties, so you should be covered if you have a LOML license from PRS: www.prsformusic.com/press/2013/prs-for-music-and-youtube-sign-licensing-deal However, these are only suggestions based on the info available from both KZbin and licensing bodies like PRS. We always recommend talking with the licensing bodies to get an absolute answer. More info on UK licensing can be found here: radio.co/blog/stream-licensing-explained/

I am from the U.S., I want to run a Meditation/New Age online radio. I want to just generally broadcast globally, not be restricted by any given Country. First question, with a blanket License from Soundexchange cover me? Second question, much of the music in the Meditation/New Age space are independent artists, many of it instrumental. Does that change the dynamics of what type of license I need? Or is generally the same? Thanks so much!
@Radiodotco2 жыл бұрын
SoundExchange covers territories in the USA, not worldwide. But for licensing I'd recommend reaching out to your chosen licensing body to ask and confirm. As for what type of license you need, that's another question for your licensing body. But if you're playing non-commercial music or even just talk, then you may not need a license. If you're unsure about anything though, reach out to us for a more in-depth run through at studio@radio.co.

Hello, do you know how the youtube/twitch radios works? I've seen channels like Vorterix or La 100 (from Argentina) that plays commercial music in all the countries without copyright problems... and I know that they doesnt have the license for the songs because these are little radios.
@Radiodotco2 жыл бұрын
If you mean in regards to licensing, they very limited. Both KZbin and Twitch have automated systems to flag content that's held under copyright laws. That could mean shows being taken down, monetised, or your analytics being shared with the claimant. If you have any specific questions about KZbin or Twitch, best to contact their support team. For everything radio, reach out to us at studio@radio.co (and be sure to subscribe).

If you reach out to small online artists with permission, can you stream their music
@Radiodotco3 жыл бұрын
If they aren't signed and their music doesn't have official copyrights on it yet, then getting their permission should be enough. However, we're not legal experts so you may want to double-check that before acting on it.
@gozuam16172 жыл бұрын
If you do something like this make sure you get it written in a contract, or papers with signatures (or at least screenshot conversations). This is because the artist could later claim they never gave permission and when it is word vs word the creator always wins (not saying that the creator would but just to cover your back).
