I bought one too. Probably the same one you bought. I bought a new Quincy QT-54 and put a starter on first thing to avoid burning out pressure switches. So far, so good. Next I will rig up an aftercooler to keep the air dry.

@@assyholey4224 if it squalls you have a loose belt or other issues.

mine usually blows a capacitor once a year.

For fellow home gamers and DIYers, one trick I've seen is to attempt to find a dual rated contactor that's designed to work with both single and three phase current. They're probably cheaper than singe phase only, since they're a lot more common. A three phase only design should be able to be used as long as it's rated for at least the same current as the motor is going to pull. Good luck people!

Any time u buy a heavy type air comprsoir running on 1ph...220v 25 amps or more make shure u use a magnetic starter..it will save u big time..on repair costs..a pressure switch isn't a magnetic starter..I have a 3hp.220v 1 ph Saylor-beall in my home shop..60 gal ..a industrial type unit..it runs so quite..I can still hear my shop tv....great video..helpfull. to the home..hobby shops..I stopped getting home store air units...El cheapo..and they run loud..keeps the wife up late nights..

I think the confusion in my mind comes from the word "starter." Don't you think the term relay or contactor would be a better term/description? It's my understanding the magnetic starter is a slave relay controlled by the pressure switch. In automobiles, the starter motor relay is a slave to the key switch. The purpose of the slave relay is to switch the high current of a motor, especially when a motor starts as a locked rotor. When a motor uses a start capacitor, the capacitor is actually used to "strat" the motor. A magnetic starter does nothing to "start" the motor other than switching on the power with high current-rated contacts. Am I correct? Or am I missing something?

No no. You got it. One hundred percent.
@billparsons7732 Жыл бұрын
@@austech360 Well, at least people may be willing to pay more for a starter; it sounds like it should be more expensive. Otherwise, it's just a non-starter!
