I have a ride for hire insurance and if I got an accident when the Uber app on and I haven’t get any call accepted. Am I covered by insurance

Hello @tuongs2619 - thanks for the question, and great work getting ride for hire insurance. Your question is definitely tricky, but not for the reasons you may think. Yes, you're covered, but which carrier is primary may be in question. This is the case because Uber provides a minimal amount of liability coverage, and your ride for hire insurance carrier may provide comprehensive and collision coverage (in addition to liability). Thus, depending on the severity of the accident, you may simply utilize Uber's built-in insurance and save yourself from subsequent rate increases from your ride for hire carrier. Thanks again for the question. Happy, and safe driving!

Hello Mr. Einsurance.. thanx for this important topic. I have question from a freind who's afraid to ask herself. She was thinking about doing ride share with uber and lyft and she has full coverage on her polocy she does'nt want to say exactly but she has an average good full coverage one. She wants to know how much more roughly would it cost her a month to add ride share on her full coverage policy with say Einsurance?
@einsurance
@einsurance 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Celestino! First and foremost, please let your friend know questions are always a good thing. That said, thank you for posing this one. Of course the answer varies with each insurance carrier, however, your friend can look to spend anywhere from $5 to $25/month in additional premium. She may already know this, but reiterate to her that Uber and Lyft have liability insurance in place when driving for them at no charge. That said, she's on the right path in wanting more comprehensive coverage with an actual rideshare policy. This way, there will be no gaps in insurance and subsequent coverage. Hope this helps with your friends decision making!

Will UBER remove the insurance fee if i get commercial insurance?
@einsurance
@einsurance 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Hermano - thanks for the question, and congratulations regarding the job. Ultimately, you'll want to consult with Uber directly to get a concrete understanding of their policy. That said, their site does openly state that they maintain liability insurance on the driver's behalf if they in fact do not maintain applicable limits. This would suggest that, assuming your insurance meets their Company standard limits for a driver, then you should not be forced to opt-into their policy and pay the resulting premium. Best of luck on the road!

How do I attain the insurance to drive for Uber or Lyft
@einsurance
@einsurance 2 жыл бұрын
Hello The Laboratory - thanks for the question, and congrats on driving for Uber and/or Lyft. You're definitely asking the right question - because coverage in these situations can be quite confusing. First and foremost, your personal auto insurance will not provide coverage while using your vehicle for business purposes. Thus, coverage while driving for Uber/Lyft will be excluded if you were to suffer an accident. That said, Uber and Lyft provide a layer of primarily liability insurance while driving for them (ie. the app is on, and/or you are en route to picking someone up, or transporting a passenger). Now there are several gaps in this coverage (ie. comprehensive and collision coverage, coverage before you turn the app one, etc.). To address these gaps in coverage, you should purchase a standalone rideshare insurance policy, or have a rideshare endorsement added to your current personal auto policy. All the major carriers have these options, and there's a good chance your current carrier has some form of this option as well. Treat this process like any other insurance buying process and make sure you look at multiple carriers before making a decision. Again, thanks for the question, and best of luck!

Hi! I appreciate how brilliant and thorough your knowledge of insurance appears to be. Here's a question for you: back in 2019, Hertz and Lyft had a collaboration where you could rent a car through Hertz to drive for Lyft. At no point EVER during monthly renewals of the rental contract did Hertz mention separate insurance would be required. During a traffic stop, when the Hertz rental agreement was handed to the police officer, the insurance was not deemed sufficient as proof of insurance for the vehicle. There's quite a hefty fine and a court date in the near future to fight this ticket. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thank you!

@einsurance 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Breez Luize! Thanks for the kind sentiment, and sharing this situation (we hope its not you going to court) with us. This one is quite hairy due to the amount of grey areas involved. Hypothetically speaking, the individual due to show up in court would definitely benefit from legal representation given the seemingly harshness of the fine, the size of the corporations involved, and its not an 'open/shut' type case. Once again, we would like to reiterate that the person in this situation should certainly seek legal advice. However, from an insurance perspective, assuming you were indeed driving the Hertz vehicle to work for Lyft and your app was on, Lyft's insurance should kick in. Now if your app was off and/or you were driving for personal reasons (not yet clocked in for Lyft) then your personal insurance would kick in. Now this assumes 1. your personal auto insurance extends to rental vehicles, or 2. you have a rental car insurance policy. If neither applies, then some credit card companies extend insurance coverage to rental cars, so you can check there as well. Now if you don't have personal auto insurance at all, then Hertz should have urged you to purchase their insurance coverage options (this moves into the legal realm of perhaps finding Hertz negligent). As you can see, there is A LOT to consider. Once again, we hope this situation is not you and perhaps you were asking for a friend. Either way, due to the complexity of the situation you (or your friend) should certainly seek legal representation/advice. Best of luck!

What happens if i get in an accident for the second time while in an uber with a passenger is with me wihich is not my foult thank u

Hello @dignity5433 - thanks for the question. Hopefully you, your passengers, and any other people involved in the accident are recovering well. There are several factors to consider regarding your question, and we'll try to touch on a few here. Given you were transporting passengers you would be more than likely considered on-trip regarding Uber's rules and regulations. As such, the automatic coverage Uber provides for its drivers should kick in. I'm sure you probably know this already, but they have a formal process of submitting claims. So if you have not done so, this would be the first step. Now there are gaps in Uber's coverage. As you could imagine, the limits are generally lower than what is recommended for full coverage, and damage to your vehicle will be covered at ACV. As such, you may still want to either pull the other driver's insurance company (or yours, depending upon if you're driving in an at fault or no fault state) into the conversation as well. This way, you have two layers of coverage and have a better probability of being properly compensated for the loss you have sustained. This being the second time this has happened will surely be covered in Ubers rules and regulations. So definitely peruse that document. That said, as it relates to you insurance carrier, even if you are not found to be at-fault, your carrier may still increase your rate slightly. If this is the case, make sure to pick up the phone and plead your case - especially given you were not a fault. Hope this was helpful. Best of luck!

My insurance company won’t let me drive for Uber or Lyft. They sent me letter that they will cancel my policy. So it doesn’t matter if Uber or Lyft provides insurance.
@einsurance
@einsurance Жыл бұрын
Hello Surin Manaktala - thanks for the comment. This is typically a carrier's response if they find out you're using your car for business purposes majority of the time. Given ridesharing has been so embedded into our culture at this point, most carriers now have endorsements or separate coverage that can be added to your policy that rates for this additional risk. Because this seems quite unusual, I would give your current carrier another call and try to explain to them that you are not trying to disguise the risk. You would like them to properly rate the risk of you operating as a Lyft and Uber driver, so they can charge the appropriate premium. Its not as if you're trying to pay a premium under the pretense that you will drive 8k miles/year simply to and from work. I would genuinely be surprised if they didn't have an option for you. While you're re-engaging your current carrier, make sure you go out to the market and seek quotes from other carriers. Many of the national carriers will have a solution for you. Most importantly, please do not let your current carrier's initial response stop you from driving for Uber or Lyft. There are carriers out there that will happily provide you with coverage. Best of luck!

@@vincentliang3342 Absolutely hilarious! Theoretically, you're correct, however, insurance carriers are really resourceful - especially when it comes to saving money (ie. denying a claim). Thus, hypothetically speaking of course, if someone was working for Lyft or Uber and got into an accident, the first thing a carrier would try to find out is if the insured's Lyft or Uber app was on. Assuming the app was on, then you would considered 'working' and coverage would be excluded on your policy, but possibly covered under Uber's or Lyft's. Either way, do not underestimate a carrier's ability to dig, and uncover information regarding an accident. They have a ton of resources dedicated to this. Thanks for the question!

If you think auto insurance are that blind about your insurance when you have an accident you are surely uneducated about the DMV license for ride-share driver’s and their lawyers will get all of you or whoever owns the vehicle you use. I live in Stamford CT and if you go to their website and Uber website you will find out your LIC type and you should get your state auto insurance carriers ride-share insurance. You will be sorry if you have personal insurance on your personal car and get into an accident. Do check before driving for Uber or Lyft or the delivery apps. There is plenty of information on KZbin about this subject.
