Reality check guys - if you want to learn BASE and you don't want to put in the time, money and commitment into skydiving then guess what? You aren't cut out for BASE. Hard pill to swallow I know but it's the truth. 200 jumps isn't much, I did 200 jumps alone last season, with a regular job and income. I made sacrifices, spent every weekend at the DZ, rain or shine, learned to pack rigs for people too lazy to pack for themselves to supplement it. I drive a shit car, own second hand everything. If it's "your dream" to learn BASE then go take a look at what it really means for most people to achieve your dreams - Hardly anyone gets it handed to them on a plate. Dreams take real work. I made a choice 5 years ago to learn BASE and did every step that was asked of me properly, no shortcuts. It's been a long road, and in the end the journey has so far been incredible and completely worth it. I Made my first jumps a couple of months ago after my 500th skydive and already I've had to use skills that can only be learned through hundreds of skydives. Don't be stupid.

You don't need a ton of money to skydive. Most skydivers are just regular people with regular jobs. You just have to make time for it, and sacrifice everything else - nice car, nice house etc. How do I know this? Did my 500th skydive last month and my 1st BASE jump too. Started jumping 3 years ago.

Serious question... if we are not interested in true B.A.S.E. jumping, then what about bridge jumping (only)? That’s all I’m interested in is jumping from bridges (obviously high enough ones). Having the skills required for true BASE jumping I absolutely agree with. You don’t have to track jumping a bridge. Just have as much possible knowledge and knowing how to steer/land/pack a BASE canopy, proper body positioning when jumping, being able to react immediately if something does go wrong, keeping align properly in harness,(etc? Probably forgot something) be sufficient enough? Also accepting the fact that the person jumping strictly accepts all personal responsibility and truly accepts the fact if something does go terribly wrong, it’s all on the individual and no other BASE jumper. Thanks. 🙂
@Snakeriverbase4 жыл бұрын
In our experience the 'bridge only' jumpers find themselves very frustrated. They want to jump other objects almost immediately, and then are in the position of either having to go back to the DZ to practice, or putting themselves into a lot more danger. Most of them choose to put themselves into more danger, which is predictable, but unfortunate. They end up constantly wanting to do more--something they could easily have done (both faster and cheaper) if they had simply started with the skydiving.

Question from someone with 100 skydives and is definitely looking to try Base once I hit 200 jumps (hopefully this summer) What did the guy in the clip at the end so wrong? He yanked the toggle a little slow I guess but other than that it looked like he was destined to have a bad time.
@TIEBT014 жыл бұрын
Clay B he had a shit track and should not be jumping in lauterbrunnen. Panic grabbed his toggles and grabbed front instead of rear.
@Snakeriverbase4 жыл бұрын
That guy did virtually everything wrong. He made his first BASE jump in Switzerland off of an intermediate cliff with no real instruction and little skydiving experience. He had no concept of basic canopy control. He had no plan. The point of this video is that the experience gained from skydiving is an important prerequisite to learning to BASE jump, and that going it alone and trying to shortcut your way into being #HellaRadBrah rarely ends well.

As a skydiver watching BASE videos you can tell who never skydived, and it's cringe worthy. It's like watching a 12 year old drive on the interstate. De-arched, leafing, not knowing how to track. The worst are the people with their feet in their ass/on their rig kicking around as they pull their pilot chute, unaware of how close they are to a self induced total malfunction caused by their lack of basic skill of stability and leg awareness when you pull.

Snake River Base...you want me to JUMP out of a plane 200 times before base jumping?
@Snakeriverbase6 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. After 200 skydives you are just barely considered an intermediate skydiver and you will have walked away from a number of rookie mistakes you made skydiving that would've gotten you seriously injured on a BASE jump. A motivated person can go from zero to 200 skydives in about two months. Imagine you see a video of people surfing big waves at Mavericks and you decide you want to do that, but you've never been swimming before. Wouldn't it be a good idea to spend two months learning to swim first? kzbin.info/www/bejne/eoG2inl7lMqjf7c
