I print posters and use these hinge clamps. I made my own vacuum table from MDF. A couple observations you made are critical for paper printing like this: 1) I had to recess the clamps into the MDF a bit to get them lower and closer to the paper. The off-contact was just too much for poster printing. I use old plastic poker chips on the other end to support the screen with about 1/8" off-contact. 2) I also found the hinges need WD-40 every few weeks. They seize up for some reason.
@CatspitProductions11 жыл бұрын
That sounds like it would work for poster printing. Thanks for sharing. For tee shirts you can use the space for an insert board that will keep ink from passing through to the back of the shirt. Thanks so much for watching and dropping me a note. ☠

Thanks just bought the hinges clamps going to go get the wood at hardware store and make my own screen print for my class. We only have 20 total and there are 30 students, so its almost like we have to share then wait time for screen filler dry time or sketching time in my book. What my teacher did was put a large piece of clear plastic very thin but flexible so we can see where the print is printing. We then put our paper or t-shirt under that plastic then use masking tape to aline it so it matches up with all the prints on the paper or t-shirt. Going to save this video on my iphone for the future.

It's possible to use any heating device to cure or heat set inks if you can reach the proper temperatures. Check with Speedball for specs on their inks. Thank you very much. It may be harder to get fine detail since the off contact will be high for posters. @CatspitProductions10 жыл бұрын
Off contact is preferred but not always necessary. It will improve print results especially on darker garments. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
@GoodGoodergoodgooder6 жыл бұрын
So the off contact is too much but you didn't demonstrate how to deal with that. You mentioned it in passing but we need a demonstration for dealing with that.
@CatspitProductions6 жыл бұрын
For posters, yes. I did talk about it in saying for posters you would need to recess the clamps into the board some to make the off contact lower. But for tee shirts you're going to need to put a piece of cardboard inside the shirt anyway and that will take up that extra space. With hinge clamps you really either have off contact or not unless you rig it up specially. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/
@VikingsFan-sy2vc9 жыл бұрын
how high exactly is the off contact? This is the method I plan on using for my one color design. Also it's a photo I'm going to be printing an i know I need it to be pretty tight so what do you recommend I do ?
@CatspitProductions9 жыл бұрын
+sean mcclish If you're printing posters you don't need to worry about it that much. Less is more when it comes to off contact. With papers we are printing a very low volume of ink and there is very little to no off contact for such flat work. Fabric is a bit different and the off contact helps deposit a heavier layer of ink more evenly. With fabric we want about 1/16th of an inch. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/
@VikingsFan-sy2vc9 жыл бұрын
+CatspitProductions how would I fit the t shirt onto the board? Doesn't the board have to be inside the shirt? Or can I just lay the shirt on top of the board and print directly on it? I see many printing platforms using boards shaped kind some what to the form of the shirt? How well does this set up work? thanks
@CatspitProductions9 жыл бұрын
+sean mcclish Yes, for this home method you would have to put a board of some kind inside the garment to prevent the ink from bleeding through to the inside of the back of the shirt. That would go in between the screen and the MDF board of this little set up. So with a board press it may not be possible to have off contact unless you do some chucking and rigging perhaps.
@CatspitProductions11 жыл бұрын

If I dont sink them in can I still print successfully? On my 4 color press it is recommended that I have some off contact.
@CatspitProductions10 жыл бұрын
Yes, watch the video again and listen carefully... sink them for posters and not for tee shirts. But use a card board insert for shirts. And this is not a press. It's hinge clamps so the off contact is what it is. If you have a press I would use that. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Use a cardboard insert with spray tack on both sides and then tack the bag to the pallet. If the screen is printing too much ink try a higher mesh count and a harder squeegee. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! www.catspitproductionsllc.com/ - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/

@CatspitProductions7 жыл бұрын
It can depend on what you want to be able to print. You can check out my kits and packages on my ecommerce site for lists of equipment at different price levels. But if you want to set up a simple manual screen print shop, you will need at least: bench press or floor press exposure unit flash cure unit scoop coater screens squeegees I always recommend getting a belt dryer if you can afford it. Then of course you will need the consumables like inks, solvents, screen making chemicals, etc… You will also need things like tape, ink scoops and other small accessories. Whether for hobby or commercial printing goals your budget, electrical requirements, and space available to work in will also determine what equipment you can buy. Those hinge clamps are great but made for printing Tshirts. Instead of routing out the baseboard to sink the clamps, its much easier to get some foam-core board and a thinner piece of cardboard, like the board off a big drawing paper pad, and staple them as a build up on the board. Then if you need to print shirts you just pull the build-up off. Routing is a pain because you might rout too deeply, with stapling a build-up on top of the base you have more control.....

@CatspitProductions10 жыл бұрын
Joey aguilar Oh okay I see... ;) Yes, off contact is best set up with some kind of press. In you're situation it would be difficult to simulate it unless you perhaps use some shims at the corners of the screen. The question is if you could do it so you have slight off contact evenly all over the print area.
@nadzastore11 жыл бұрын
Sir what do u mean for tshirt printing do not sink them?
@CatspitProductions11 жыл бұрын
I mean do not bevel out a notch for the hinge clamps to level the bottom of the clamp to the board. For tee shirts that space would help because you will need to insert a piece of cardboard inside the shirt before printing. For posters we would want the hinge clamp flush with the board. Thanks for watching!

@CatspitProductions9 жыл бұрын
chappledesign Yes, very low to none for posters. But if you have no off contact it can sometimes create abnormalities in the print as the paper pulls off the screen. To do that right (budget or skills unlimited) you're going to want to split the table and raise or lower the front part. That's where I'm at for now.

Not sure what you mean. This is a simple hinge clamp board press. Works pretty well as is. Thanks for watching! Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - CatspitScreenPrintSupply.com/

with the cost of the board also not included, ya might do better with a cheep one color press. probably 30 bucks more. but this is totally cool i think.
@CatspitProductions11 жыл бұрын
Maybe…. Maybe not. Hinge clamps cost about $20. You can attach those hinge clamps to just about anything flat. They work great on table tops and work benches. A board could be found rather than bought. So a $50 to $70 bench press might not be that great of a deal for the money. But I do agree a good bench press would be easier to work with and have more consistent results. catspitscreenprintsupply.com/catspit-1-color-bench-top-screen-printing-press/ ;) Thanks for watching my video and leaving a comment!

Dude those motomags are fetching some $$$ on ebay these days!
@CatspitProductions3 жыл бұрын
Yeah and those are genuine US made Motomags from a Mongoose in the 80's. Problem is I lost the hubs. One has to be fabricated I think to work. One day I will pair those with my 1980's Hutch frame and have it built out. I moved too many times and was in the middle of refurbishing when they disappeared. Doh! No, those are not screen printed. I would never screen print my banners. Too much work for something that can be done very inexpensively by digital printers. I sell those digital banners and you can get any amount of colors, photographic images or whatever and it does not affect the price. Good in the sun too. Thanks so much for watching and dropping me a note. ☠
