Do It Yourself Musician #24 - PS/2 Mouse Adapter For Roland Samplers

In this episode we take a look at the KMTech PS/2 to MSX mouse adapter. This device will let you use a PS-2 mouse with your Roland S-330, S-550 and S-760 samplers.

You can press and hold "2" while turning on S-550. This will enable mouse control (S-550 owners manual page 23).

Hmm. I can't seem to get this to work with my S-550. Only the MU mouse works, whereas the adapter works on my S-760s. Perhaps it's an issue with the S-550s 9 pin EXT CTRL port.

Old post, but if it's the same PIC and code that's been around a couple decades in the MSX community, my 550 doesn't like a few PS2 devices that the S-750 is OK with either. If you have trouble, try sticking to an old simple 2-button PS2-only mouse if that's not what you're using. Somebody was fighting with that recently in the FB group.

Also - did you ever get around to that switchbox solution? I'm looking for some way of connecting 1 MU mouse (or wireless USB adapter) or RC-100 to multiple (~5) samplers.

hey anybody knows if there are other options to getting a monitor and mouse for the s760 or do I need the OP1 output board no matter what? It's impossible to find. Thanks!

I do not know where the problem is but USB adapter doesn't work with my apple optical mouse and S760.

+Chris Nova777 Hello. Thanks for watching. Not normally. I believe a 9 pin serial mouse will only work on MSX machines with a special driver. You obviously can't install a driver on a sampler though.

No, it is not. It is a MSX mouse, definitely not compatible with a PC serial mouse.

It's not an MSX mouse, it is a PS/2 mouse used with a KMTech PS/2 to MSX adapter.

@@bblix - And to any people wondering about it in 2024, don't even think about it. The serial ones have the potential to pop an internal fuse that you probably don't want to deal with.
