Well made video. It's odd to me how masculine looking men aren't considered good looking by many Japanese women when many men are naturally masculine than feminine. This has to be the best video that I've seen on asking Japanese women dating preference between feminine or masculine guys. I liked how you challenge their views and logic because some of them paused for a good reason. But looking at all their reasoning they weren't actually based on male natural traits but on subjective social standards. This should be male natural beauty vs female standards of beauty. Like most interview women usually share the same opinion as each other when they're together. Always looking at each other for validation. But topics like Japanese males celebrities looking more feminine than masculine and Japanese women strong preference for feminine looking males than masculine always felt a little unordinary and center around East Asia beauty standard like the female gaze than physical desire like natural attraction. PAY VERY ATTENTION to the reason why each woman picked their answers. The ones that prefer masculine men were all base on male features and physiology (hooray) while the ones that prefer feminine weren't but base on social trends and cultural norms. That speaks volumes. From what I mostly see Japanese women prefer the feminine looking male because to them femininity represents good looks while masculinity doesn't. But if you ask them what make a masculine men handsome I bet they would contradict everything that doesn't apply to feminine men. And if they can't then they just don't like men at all. So it seems like there is only one standard of beauty operating which is femininity. For me, I don't believe cultural preference determines your attraction to someone look or type but your physical desire. Overall the reactions were entertaining and funny to watch despite some uncomfortable moments. It really isn't serious at all but I'm just surprised at how Japanese culture and Japanese women see masculinity traits on males unfavorable than as a compliment.

and so what if their preferences are based on social standards and culture? masculinity and femininity ARE social constructs, most men don't even like women in their natural state. the feminine ideal pressures women to starve themselves, remove hair that naturally grows out of their bodies, cover up their face with chemicals and get cosmetic surgery. that's not to say that men don't need to go through some stuff to attain the masculine ideal as well, but that's the point. none of this shit is natural, it's all socially constructed and based on societal beauty standards, which are constantly changing mind you. I would even give japanese women some leeway because when compared to the beauty standards from other parts of the world, the features of many Asian men would be considered effeminate. I feel like you're trying to invalidate women's preferences

If you this exact same interview with older women (late 30s and above), you will find the result is totally different. I can guarantee that most Gen X ladies would pick masculine men. I think the guy A is giving harder impression while guy B…TS is giving softer impression. It’s just depend on our preference. Not necessarily must be Kim Tae Hyung, but in general, I (and most Asian women) prefer the softer look men than harder look men. There are probably cultural influence. In the past, men who look more “feminine” is associated with better education and wealthier. While the masculine or having muscle and tanned is associated with labor works. Asian people also generally more peaceful, less confrontational, live in a group, no gun in society, so we don’t feel the need for buff men to feel secure or protected. It’s the opposite, the harder look men giving more intimidating looks. I feel like as a woman, when men get angry, they are intimidating. So instinctively, I will choose the guy who looks more friendly/nicer.

Most of my female Japanese friends have complete opposite style. My friends and I workout at the gym, we're curvy, we like slicked back pony tails/short hair (bob style), hoop earrings, urban/sporty styles. You should interview more Japanese girls like this too lol.
