Lego produced some models able to float, which huls were constituted from premade elements to be assembled following your will and provided keels with the weight inside. The proposed boats in the video, aren't designed for this and if they do not go straight by the bottom, it is just because air trapped in the bricks. The way of getting them afloat is to glue the pieces which sit below the water line and ad some weight inside to fix the balance. For success bigger the ship is, better the result will be.

The way LEGO boats float is a little space underneath the boat holds air. Which keeps it afloat. Now if no air is under the boat to keep it buoyant it depends on the density of the boat. If it’s less dense it will stay above. If it’s more dense it sinks. But the LEGO coastguard set has a boat base that comes in the package. Underneath are multiple air pockets keeping it buoyant and aligned so it won’t capsize.

The main reason why most Lego Model Boat sets don't float is because they have incomplete hulls. The sets are designed to sit on a shelf or on a flat surface, so the hull is flat at a certain point. This change the center of gravity and makes the boat unstable in water. If you want the boat to float, you'll need to complete the hull as designed. However this means they wont sit upright on a flat surface without a stand.

Think a lot of this is design too though. Titanic model's weight is all in the top so it capsized. It would need counterweights in the hull to stay upright (ex , the engines in the actual boat) The car carrier is flat bottomed for floor play so it has no stability to begin with, and there is no counterweights across from the bridge so it lists. Same with the small cargo ship

Lego boats if structurally stable and given with a silicone (any form of water resistant sealant will float. Try making a sub with compartamentalized areas each with a small pump.

why sink ? 1. the ship have different weight (example like right and left) 2. not have a space for air (full of lego) 3. water, that water can't handle the weight of ship (too much force to down, any side the ship didn't have space for air at inside of the ship)
