Do mic Pre-amps and different mics make that much difference? (part 1)

We need more channels like this, I am listening on some monitors, m-audio bx5 in a non treated room. I don't hear much of a difference. They both sound good and usable, which is the main goal in recording either way.

Thank you for making this video. I appreciate you using music and a performance that is uncompressed, dynamic, and lyrical. Both preamps sound very good, but I found Neve had the best overall performance for this segment. It sounded a bit smoother and had the most complementary color.

I agree - the singer, performance and in the case of instruments , the instrument and tuning are the key aspects, but many people are interested if there is significant difference if you spend more money on expensive gear, and if there is a perceived difference, how big it is. Often you can tell a slight difference, but ultimately such a lot of the difference is ones own taste and opinion. I hope this helps with the reasoning behind the video. I think many people ARE interested in comparisons of equipment from the same source. Thanks
