Seriously, the 392 platform is exactly "what you see is what you get". It was not designed to be a engine to build upon. The engine is extremely efficient as built. The 6.4 with 485 hp was attained from getting the most out of the parts and pieces used from the factory. It was not designed like some of the other manufacturers offerings. Having somewhat Lower hp from the factory but by using aftermarket parts you can easily increase the power output. If you want big numbers Dodge has you covered with a factory upgrade that has been the gold standard since its inception. Yes you can build the 6.4 to deliver some serious power (like 485 isn't pretty dang serious) but it is definitely not worth it from a $$$ standpoint. For the money spent you could have a Hellcat with more HP, better Transmission, stronger rearend, etc just as the factory designed it to be.

@Mikes05Hemi2 жыл бұрын
My two ProCharged Daytona 392's cost me less than the Hellcat and both are quicker in the quarter mile when compared to a stock or very slightly modified Hellcat. Both cars run mid 10's and have stock motors, transmissions, and rear ends. You save a lot of money doing your own modifications and spending money where it is important is critical when boosting the 6.4. A great tuner and fueling are the most important expenses. One car runs 7psi the other runs 10psi. Both on E85. Over 60,000 miles and at minimum 50-60 passes on the track.
@Toro7042 жыл бұрын
Whaaaaa that’s crazy man!!!
@RunTowardsDanger2 жыл бұрын
You mention cost but also mention it's on E85. The hellcat is great because it's running more legal boost and it runs on pump gas. Hellcat's really are worth the added cost. By the time you put the same modifications the hellcat has, into a 6.4 to keep up, your back at hellcat costs. It just doesn't make sense. Then, once you own the hellcat, power comes really cheap. There are 1000 and 1200HP hellcats running around with only $7500-10K in mods and only burning pump gas. E85 cats are a whole different level of beastmode. 6.4L just doesn't cut it. Great for what it is, but they aren't in the same league as a cat. And that's just the motor. The hellcat comes with a better transmission, rear end, and gearing.
@Mikes05Hemi2 жыл бұрын
First I'll address the cost comparison. My Daytona 392 special ordered cost me $48K in 2020. New Hellcat Charger in 2020 was starting price 69K. I spent just over 8K on the D1X, injectors, and a dyno tune. I spent an additional 2.5K on the dual pump E85 fuel system. I didn't charge myself any labor for the installation. My car makes 731whp/ 662 lb ft torque on e85. That's 100 hp more than a stock Hellcat. That leaves me 10K for forged pistons and rods if I wanted to do them. The Hp70 is rated for around 700- 750 lb ft torque which is enough to put my car in the high 9's and as far as the rear ends go, a lot of hellcat owners change the rear ends form the 2.72 to the 3.09 that comes in the scat packs.
@RunTowardsDanger2 жыл бұрын
@@Mikes05Hemi scat packs don't have 3.09 stock. That's an upgrade. Second a stock cat on just an E85 tune makes more power than your Daytona. And for that price you could have just bought a 60k hellcat with a better trans and stronger motor to begin with. The great thing about hellcats is they are already set up in the sweet spot to make more power. Blower already sitting on top ready for a cheap pulley swap. Just the pulley swap nets the same power you are at. Then as I mentioned E85 just a tune alone would already have passed your power. There's zero point in buying a 392 unless you plan on keeping it stock because by the time your done upgrading it to be a 6.2 basically you've spent the same amount dodge chargers for a hellcat and you don't even get the perks of owning the hellcat. Just a weaker motor that's not meant for boost. I calced out the cost before i went with the hellcat. It just isn't worth it. Besides without a blower those Hp and torque numbers don't really matter because the hellcat will make peak torque and HP before your NA car does. Plus the better trans and shift points. Nothing against 392s but compared to a hellcat they just don't make financial sense. Everyone I know that ever owned a 392 and wanted more power realized it was always smarter to trade the car in and upgrade to a hellcat before doing any mods.

Part of me says hell yeah, the other part says keep it mostly stock/factory-backed mods like direct connection. After all, it IS still more rare than the demon. I personally think it depends on the person. It is alot of potential in the 392. Yes, you can buy a hellcat but it your someone like me who then you would want to build a sleeper. The 392 can go natural aspirated and have alot of power or you can forge the engine and go boost depends on what you want to do. I wouldn't say it is a bad car to go for. Get a proper tune and you should be fine.

@@Toro704 yes it would have been better to buy a Hellcat and yes everyone is different. Some people save cost by doing the work themselves and then sending it to a tuner to get a proper tune. I was in the same boat as well between a 392 and hellcat but it is something about having a Daytona 392 that just sounds right. I just may be biased as I love a NA motor due to it not being so complex and reliable... Have to disagree with you though on reliability. 392 is extremely reliable if taken care of etc. Thats why its such a popular motor to have as well as the 1:1 ratio of HP and Torque. Get the Scat Pack for a daily. Cheaper insurance, I won't say cheaper on fuel cause you can and certainly will get on that throttle regularly. I love mine, it's my daily when I need it to be, it's my road trip car. Bought it new in March 2016 and just made final payment. All stock it dynod at 432 hp and 445 Tq at the rear wheels. That's plenty fun for me. And mines a 6 speed manual that I added a Barton shifter to. The only negative things I can say about the regular body Scat Packs. ...they sell with crap 245 size tires. Getting the Dynamics package takes care of that and gets you 6 piston front Brembo brakes and 20x9.5 wheels with size 295 tires. The stock shifter on the manual transmissions is too damn loose. Go over train tracks the wrong way and shifter shakes itself out of gear. The Barton shifter took care of that. 2 other things. At high speed, sometimes the air coming up along windshield will squeeze by the window seal and make a loud sound like a saxophone stuck on a medium pitch note lol. That's an issue with Hellcats too. There is a window calibration that can be done to help that. Lastly after washing car, there seems to be an endless amount of water that wants to trickle out of trunk lid mounted tail lights section. I leave a microfiber I. That spot and close trunk to let the microfiber soak in and draw the water out. Not a single complaint about my 392 engine with OEM tune and 139k miles on it. A friend has a 2015 392SRT and he has over 100k more miles than me. Keep up with that scheduled maintenance, use the car as intended and it last long time

Love the scatpack and how it looks but I went coyote and with just a few bolt ons and e85 tune I run really close to my buddies hellcat(stock) but from a dig I win.

Would you rather be a big fish in a small pond, or a small fish in a big pond? I own a 392 in the sticks, rural America, and no one can keep up with me.

Just go out and buy a used Viper. I wish i hadn't sold mine. A few simple mods and my 99 GTS was in the 10's and as far as autocross, no competition against any of the newer musclecars. I also had a 94 that was just stupid scary to drive but so much fun. I now have a 5.7 RT/RT and it's all i even want anymore. I sold both my old Vipers to a young man who was like a son to me, and he had been racing over 20 years, but not long after buying my Viper's he crashed and killed himself and his friend. Kinda took the wind out of my sails for speed. I am 69 and have owned dozens of great musclecars like 69 Coronet R/T 440, A BUNCH OF SS CHEVELLE;S, MUSTANG GT'S, SHELBYS AND ABOUT EVERYTHING ELSE cars but now the thrill is gone. I just wish all you young bucks could have experienced the real musclecar era. Didn't take much money to build a 10 second car back then. I am sorry to watch the fun days die. EV? No, not really. Not the same, but i wish you young folks all the fun in the world. It was so much fun buying a 200 junker and putting a couple more into it and then having a cool cruiser back then. I know i am just being an old guy who just don't get it, but i hope the fun times aren't over for good with the fossil fuel hate now used for politics. It isn't near as bad as they have you believe. I want you all to have the right to enjoy it all. Ok, going to find my meds. Peace!

Gr8 content. If I ever go Mopar in the future, it'll probably be the 5.7 or 6.1. Team Camaro 4 now tho.

Its only a bad engine if you want to be faster then a Hellcat or are chasing a 10 second ET. If you are happy being a 392 then its a great platform. From the transmission back its built to handle about 520 ft/lbs of torque on the RTs and Scats reliably. So going over that amount of power usually means transmission, drive shaft, and axle upgrades too. Having also dumped a ton of money into my RT to go mid 11’s you gotta draw the line in mods before its Hellcat trade up time. Some guys are spraying the 5.7’s and 6.4’s too which is not a bad option if you are only WOT at the track, have a good tuner, and don’t get greedy with it.

Technically I’ve seen scat trans hold 8-900 wheel big again if you spend that kind of money to be that fast a built trans has to be done🤷♂️

The scatpack is good for about 700hp 700tq max before having trouble with the stock trans..
