I love this surveyor. He's very knowledgeable. He's great to point out the hydrodynamic vacuum created by the ridiculous design of the hull bottom near the props. Awful, and I'm not sure what remedy one can pursue there. Go to a thin keel? In any event, that's back in the manufacturer's court. It's a design flaw and they have to fix it. No way is re-engineering the hull the job of an owner of a new boat.

This seems to be a common story right across the industry. I am reading similar warranty fiascos across half a dozen manufacturers. Shoddy original work and then they can't afford to provide the warranty coverage and try to get out with cash settlements that will never cover the costs tied to NDAs.

I own a 43ft Jeanneau bought in 2013 new. There was an issue with an internal support beam. They sent a 500 kg wooden crate full of stuff to do the repair all the way to Australia. Then they flew in two frenchies and got the job done in a week. There’s too much that can go wrong with such a piece of kit, do not buy from a non established player. The issues on your boat are most probably the tip on the iceberg, expect the same level of quality in every inch of you boat. Wish you good luck.

The boat was actually completed one year late and then delivered to the client one year after it was finally completed, because Aventura was contracted to deliver the boat to Genoa for shipping, however their delivery skipper parked the boat into the wrong berth in Genoa and then hit the two boats either side while removing it. Consequently the insurance companies of those two boats got a court order to sieze our client's boat until a ridiculous ransom was paid by our client to cover the cost of repairs. Meanwhile the ship left without our client's boat and I was forced to pay the $100,000 in shipping fees again as Pantaneous insurance would not cover any of the costs. When the boat eventually arrived, numerous problems were found and I was forced to spend over $100,000 to fix them without any reimbursement from Aventura. This boat is way better now than it was when it left the factory, and is actually a amazing boat, but it goes without saying that I am no longer a dealer for Aventura. Notet that it is rare that they ever reply to their emails, but if they do, it is always to provide excuses or deny any responsibility whatsoever. Absolute disgrace and real shame as the boat design is brilliant. Consequently I am taking legal action against them now. Stay tuned...

With the superficial damage, one just has to wonder how much damage is not visible, and this is just the stuff you can see walking around it. This boat has at the very least $50,000 plus that has two be redone the rudder shafts those may be an easy fix but to remove the void where the props are that is going to cost, it means a redesign of the sterne. And shortening the shafts that requires a machine shop to do that work and to make sure the shafts stay straight. There is a lot of work this boat needs.

A broader point. This is why *anything* with a fuel or an EV engine depreciates so rapidly. Cars, boats, planes, land or sea equipment, it all craters in value once used. Things built today don’t last, the warranty periods are short. And if you happen to buy a poorly engineered or constructed product, like this boat, repair costs can rise to a significant percentage of the sale price - just to fix the damn thing.

That money you can do what you wish with, buy a car, the Court doesnt care. You have some video evidence of problems but the builder can claim most of the hull was damaged in transit. Hes had no access to do his own inspection. You wont get a cent out of him unless he has a conscience. Hes got videos of it leaving the yard in pristine condition. It blows my mind that they're getting away with producing and selling boats that you could argue are death traps. Not to mention just outright ripping people off. Also the design flaws this fella is pointing out with the props and rudders is mind blowing, you'd think this cavitation business would've been worked out decades ago, unbelievable, who designed that anyone know?
@rohanveal
@rohanveal Ай бұрын
It was designed by Samer Laster in France. I think the issue with the rudders was engineering and manufacturing, as we fixed the problem by making two new rudders from stainless steel, but they were not as thick and had a shorter chord so the leading edge didn't protrude as much and there was more clearance to the props. We also fitted a smaller annode on the end of the prop, and then put more annodes on the shafts. It drives so much better now, as it has a higher top speed and there is no vibration through the hull anymore.

This is a far cry from forgivable errors and warranty cases, this is clearly incompetence on the part of the shipyard and fraud! The experts and lawyers in the USA will be delighted. In the case of such serious faults, which also represent a considerable safety risk, they would not have to insist on rectification under German warranty law, but could insist on a change, i.e. reversal of the purchase (without deduction for the time used!) and would thus be justified in any court! In other words, you would not have suffered any financial loss if you had bought under German law, with German import sales tax in Germany.

Should have gone with something tried, true and tested. Hard to believe this is one year worth of use. I lived solo onboard a monohull (Carver) for three years and never saw this much wear. No boat design is perfect, but cats require some smart design compromises. As far as the anodes, trim tabs and care of your hull (bottom paint)... that is up to the owner to keep tabs on (no pun intended) and keep fresh (haul out inspection bottom/antifouling paint refresh as required etc). Anodes don't last forever, they are sacrificial by design. You gotta replace them as needed. Bottom paint can wear out fast if you leave your boat sitting. I can only imagine how terrible it would be to use a catamaran that is poorly designed and also neglected like this. Keep it simple and affordable and enjoy more days on the water and fewer on the hard waiting for service. Carver was a good choice back in the day. A decent, affordable(ish) brand in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Been seeing very expensive boats 100k and up having all very low quality builds. Wiring all crazy not tighten up ,Gel coat very poor workmanship . It is very apparent the boat builders have lost all respect to detail and are not training people in the workplace. The Boat manufacturers are in the same situation as the Automotive manufacturing. They seem to have been only interested in Profits and short cutting for the last 5 years now and it’s Not going to end well and most likely will close their doors.The public will not accept this and not be spending their hard earned money on this junk.

It has always been difficult for any boat builder in third world countries to find skilled staff, and Tunisia is no exception. The problem is poor management, continually over promising and then under delivering. That is why I am very selective in which manufacturers I work with now as this isn't my first rodeo.

So sorry for all your problems on a new boat. Such poor workmanship. Where is the quality control? And people like to bash Bayliners. My 4588 has none of these issues after 32 years.

The design is actually really good, however the execution is poor and the after sales support is virtually non-existent.

The manufacturer dropped damaged the bows in the factory after it was antifouled just before launching, so they did the repair over the top of the antifoul!!! So we stripped the hull back and repaired it properly, then applied new epoxy and new antifoul.
