Do NOT buy the Fallout 76 Summer Camp shelter (angry ramble)

dork complains about fallout 76 shelter for almost 20 entire minutes
apparently it works better outside freecam
cant even toggle it to night and there are zero shadows

I got my atoms refunded after buying this atrocity. They showed a dock alongside other images of items that were included. Well to my disgust, there was no dock.

I had to get out of free cam mode to build... and it worked... the water is a horrible spot to try and place items, i agree 100% with that... also the lighting is the worst... so bright and ugly and sun shows up through walls...

I don't know if the issue is the Camps Shelter . I was messing with the Utility Room Shelter yesterday and was having very similar issues. The mask display would snap to some walls and/or parts of a wall, and then they would jump 3-4 feet away from the wall even though they would look flush. Some times you can place stuff then re-move it, but the issue persists. So yeah, I'm not super familiar with shelter building so IDK if floating is expected, but I didn't enjoy the experience.

Ok, so a few things, my wife lost her shit trying to build in here, So I had to step up and fix it, you cannot be in free cam, it will fight you, you build it in the air and in first person drag it into place while you're standing on the ground, it's snapping to some base texture

You should toggle snapping to "off" when trying to place items. It will allow you to more freely place items. It also prevents the sudden drop and movement that occurs when with snapping toggled to "on". I would wager you could place the items if you did this.

it honestly feels like a downgrade to fallout 4 building... which i have no idea how that's even possible. I have the same issues as you.

Ok so I went and tested out my theory. I don't have the same log foundation preset you have but I did use the iron mountain as its about ths same size. I was able to get it to work. Dock was right up to the door. Which your right, looks great. Just toggle off the snap together button while in build mode. Then just play with it until you have it the way you like it.. Good luck

lol, i never buy willy nilly. i've been playing for about almost 2 months now with fallout 1st.. im lvl 300 something. I buy practical things first from the Atom shop, things that give buffs or add some conveniency to the game (like a military freezer unit that keeps food items good forever or stuff that give recourses). I never understood why someone would pay 500 Atoms for a tree and 2 other variations of it.. lmao.. or 500 Atoms for or a plushie or "flair" for the backpack.. i mean, really?

To build on the elevated area you need to be on the elevated area, like your character needs to be there.

Snap two pieces together and put an egg between the two pieces. Blueprint the egg and one piece of the dock. You should be able to place the egg where you are placing the dock

Stop using free cam in that shelter, thats why you cant build the way you want to. Yeah the lighting does suck and the sun shines through every wall or prefab you place down. We need the option to have day or night in that shelter.
