Hey GT team, Dev here! Thanks for playing my game! Really loved your excitement over finding secret LORE bits and pieces. It truly is in Matpat fashion to find one of the deepest secrets in the game, but also miss a giant "D3" on a screen he visited 3 times. So, to clarify with hide and seek, you just need to find Ayumi enough times before you find too many eyes and she jumps out. This is meant to be fairly hard, but is made easier by using headphones. I've been a big fan of game theory for what feels like a decade now, so it's super awesome to see you play and enjoy a game I made. I am actually in the process of creating the sequel, which going at a slow but steady pace lately. so hopefully this isn't the last time you play something of mine :) -Materwelons (Ayumi Dev)

When I googled what to do if you fall through a frozen lake, it says to stay calm, get your head above the water, then face the way you came and use that ice to pull yourself out because it’ll be thicker and stronger where it previously held you up. Then you roll to land.
@Midnight_Rein2 жыл бұрын
So since it'll bug me, for an answer to the Frozen Lake, it's pretty much the opposite of Quicksand. On falling in, float, take a deep breath to help with shock. Hold onto the edge of the ice you just fell through, if it breaks, keep moving with the new edge until you get to some that's stable. Put your arms on the stable edge, and kick your feet as hard as you can. This will bring you flat. From there, you crawl prone, on your belly, testing the ice every now and then with your elbow. Once you get to a stable point, you can crawl on all fours to spread your weight out. If you're anxious about the ice being unstable, you can roll instead. GO. STRAIGHT. TO. SHORE. The real thing you have to watch out for though are Ice Dunes, if we're talking about a big body of water like the Great Lakes. Ice dunes are terrifying, and there's no easy way to get out of them. If there's a pocket in a dune, you'll fall through the top of the dune, down anywhere from 1-6 ft, then through the ice bellow into the water. At that point the snow and ice around you is insulative enough that rescuers might not hear you, and by the time they do you're probably well through the stages of hypothermia. As someone who has lived on Lake Erie, *please* for my own sanity don't let your kids play on ice dunes. End PSA.

He's a bit off on the whole frozen lake thing. If you fall thru ice, it's very disorienting, especially with the coldness, so finding which way is up and where the hole is, isn't as easy as it sounds. But if you do manage to find it, pulling yourself out is another obsticle.
@daniellehenson36372 жыл бұрын
I’ve actually tested this out when I was younger (I’m 30) and I was always told by my grandma to never go on a frozen body of water or you will never get back out, well I didn’t listen lol. I proceeded to try to play hockey on our pond, which was bigger than an indoor water sports pool, and I stupidly wasn’t paying attention being a 12 y/o kid, I hit a thin area and fell in and I naturally let my body float back up instead of panic since I was a good swimmer I wasn’t worried, tho fighting the reflex to just open my mouth wide and inhale water was a slight bother, I then broke the ice to get to the thicker ice and was light enough to slowly climb out by gently sliding onto the ice flat on my face by laying my upper body on the edge of the hole, letting my legs come up and slowly, and I mean painfully slowly, lifted one leg up at a time and spread it to my sides on the other edges to the sides of the ice path I made and basically shimmied my arms and feet to scoot across the ice flat to distribute my weight. The key to falling in a frozen body of water is trying to distribute weight evenly as possible and move at a slow and as steady as you can, also people don’t fall through the ice just cuz it’s thin, it’s also the wave formations created in the water from ice skating, running, or any fast harsh motions requiring pressure and if the ripples are clashing with other ripples it cracks through either at a distance where you don’t notice, or right under you. It is very heavily depending on the scenario but yea mat pat does make it sound easier than it is cuz you are racing against time as well, if you’re in the water more than 10-15 minutes depending on temp you are in danger and may be battling hypothermia and then it’s gonna get harder from there, but mirrormat is not alone with this fear, after what I went through I don’t like ice, period.

4:30 the thing about falling into a frozen lake, is that the ice plate could shift over the opening you created. It would be harder to break the ice from underwater too. You'd have to be really strong. So really bad scenario for a child or weak adult.

I'm delighted that Matt climbed around his couch to demonstrate his frozen lake theory. I'm also terrified that he doesn't realize how deadly they are. Drowning happens faster in colder water than warm. There's a lot of factors for this. Hypothermia takes 10 minutes to set in for ~40° F water, but shock is immediate - you'll be disoriented you and may inhale water when autonomously gasping. The winter gear you're likely wearing will weigh you down significantly while wet. Broken ice is also very fragile, even if the surrounding area is the necessary 4+ inches to support your weight. That's all assuming you're not in the water because you slid off the road with your vehicle. Escaping a sinking car is already difficult, but really hard in freezing conditions. Whatever the case, let's hope you have shelter to keep yourself warm and dry. Hypothermia after making a miracle escape does a lot of people in. Seriously. Don't underestimate frozen lakes.

Ah, my sister fell into a frozen lake! The ice kept cracking around her and her bf. It’s harder than you think to find a piece that will support your weight! Yes, it was their fault, dumb kids. The actual problem is the energy you lose trying to get out. My sis nearly gave in but her bf managed to drag her out. Psa: just don’t walk on frozen lakes!!

the hearts actually seemed to darken when you clicked on them before the escape ending... Additionally, it said in the secret message that was ayumi's "routine," so maybe look for her hiding spots there when you hear her, so you get no red eyes? The "yum!" on the main page also looks a lot like "ayumi" but without the A and with the i upside down...

Hey Mirror Matt, to answer your ice thing, you’re supposed to do the same thing with quicksand. You’re right, the ice around the hole you fell through is weakened. But in order to put less pressure on it, you’ll need to spread yourself out when you climb back onto the ice, trying to keep the ice from shattering again.

It would seem that MatPat was never big on ice fishing or snowmobiling. As someone who spent most of their life in Wisconsin and Minnesota, I've been on several EMS calls of people falling through the ice, or hitting water that hasn't frozen over completely while snowmobiling on the river or lakes. Pulling yourself out is much harder than it seems.

As someone who has actually had a lived experience falling through ice on a body of water, it's EXTREMELY difficult to pull yourself back up out of the water. You have literally no grip/no surface by which to leverage to pull yourself up. The ice is extremely slippery and now covered with the water that you displaced falling in. You have to swim towards the ice and paddle your legs super hard to try and push yourself up over the ice with just your legs. Your arms/hands will be useless. Many people will simply not be capable of paddling themselves out of the water onto the ice using only their legs, an god forbid you fail too many attempts in a row, and tire yourself out. You will not have a lot of time to catch your breath and regain stamina before you freeze to death. Imagine trying to pull yourself out of a pull, but without any ledge to leverage. You have to only use your legs and sheer kicking power. Even with another person trying to pull you out, it can be extremely difficult. And this is all before you even consider the fact that it's very easy to lose your orientation when falling in, and might not be able to see where the opening is you just fell into. Waters could still contain currents, and even in a still lake, you dont often plummet straight down, and the hole you make can be very tiny/impossible to see from below.
