Honestly Mimeko just sounds like a sweet older woman who just wanted to share some whimsy with the world, in a similar vein to Moomins. I’m glad she doesn’t sound too bothered by the urban legend stuff bc the concept of Love Fairies and their designs are genuinely really cute, and it’d be a shame if she felt pressured to stop doing anything with them just bc some people were creeped out :(

Could be a coincidence but the phrasing for the "do you want to stop being human or quit morphine" PSA probably is inspired by the book "No longer human" by Osamu Dazai in which, the protagonist is addicted to morphine

While the translations end up looking like similar phrasing, they're actually pretty different in Japanese and have quite different connotations.

Probably not. In Japanese the book's title is 人間失格 (Ningen Shikkaku) which more literally means something like "failure of a human", and in the PSA they say 人間やめますか?(ningen yamemasu ka?) AKA "will you stop being human?"

The Mimeko story reminds me of that one Lost Media mystery about an unknown children's TV show that was deemed "creepy" and "cursed" due to how a clip of it appeared so visually and audibly distorted. Upon finding out the original source, it turned out it was a local children's program self-produced by an elderly woman who owned the station it used to air in. The show looked "crude" due to the limited budget and resources the lady had. She sadly passed away in 2017 and every tape of the show was said to be stolen and destroyed by a family member of hers.

I mean, it is a little scary to experience the situation, like just picture it; _You're up in the middle of the night in the living room, no one else around, the neighborhood is quiet. The lights are off in your home, save for the TV screen illuminating the room. You were only really half paying attention to the show you were watching because you were starting to feel drowsy at this point, but then, the commercial break ends, and for some strange reason, Doraemon starts playing. It's not normally played at this time, what gives? Your attention is now solidly on the TV, your sleepiness gone. Where's the intro, why is the main character just walking in the middle of the night, what's going on? The scene continues like this, seconds turn to minutes, part of you wants to change the channel, feeling unsettled by the liminal scene happening in your dark living room, but another part of you is too scared to change it, you need to know if something happens. Slowly, you start to feel like maybe you aren't alone in this room, goosebumps rise, and you're clutching at a couch cushion to anchor yourself to the real word, but still, the main character continues to walk, and walk, and walk. You can't tell how much time has really passed at this point, you know logically, it can only really been around 15 minutes at most, but it's felt like hours. After even more of this bizarre scene, something shifts. The character slowly starts to turn around to face you, and utters his message in a voice that isn't his own. "I have to go." The screen distorts with static before going black, and now you're completely in the dark._ Like, if it were me, I'd probably be screaming and dashing off to turn on any lights I can. I would not be getting any sleep that night, I tell you that much.
@greenhowie26 күн бұрын
Switching a theme park to appeal to adults who love spooky liminal stuff is kinda genius. No idea if it'll work but if it does there's quickly going to be a trend for them across the globe. I'd call it 2 to 3 years to reach America unless the park goes mainstream viral for this stuff.

The weird audio in the VIP先生 video is actually just the (misheard?) lyrics to Ievan Polkka by Loituma, which most people might now from the Miku leek spin meme. It's a bit hard to tell as the artificial voice sounds rather distorted and it's missing the melody, but I immediately thought it sounded familiar - with that in mind, the video is actually pretty funny! 🤭 The You in One Year video actually reminded me of the facial distortion that happens with the disease in the game Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse (or Project Zero, for my fellow Europeans). I don't know what the official English translation was, but the fan translation called it "Luna Sedata Syndrome" and patients in a severe state would have a similarly distorted face which symbolized a loss of self. Depending on when the original NND upload was, the game might have taked inspiration from the video or, if the video was created after the game's release, it's possible that it was intentionally edited to look like what happens in the game? 🤔 Anyway, hope you'll fully recover from your surgery soon, take care! ❤

Wouldn't shock me if what's been going on with Fairy Tale Village was inspired by this or the other way around. Anyways fantastic video as usual!

For the BZs CD, a likely explanation for at the very least the messed up/inconsistent track order could be due to a corrupt Table of Contents, the section at the start of every audio CD with info on track length numbers, names, etc. Which could very likely happen if the master copy was accidentally/tampered with at the time of the pressing by, say, an extra track slipping in

The first topic is just so cute and wholesome! It is certainly interesting to learn about what other cultures find scary. Sounds odd, but well, I have my name for a reason~

Honestly, the love fairy webpage comes across like one of those weird cult websites, especially with how it talked about love fairies being real. With the subway attacks only happening around a decade before the website blew up in popularity and the cult behind those spouting out similar unhinged bs, it's kinda no wonder why Japanese people got strange vibes and were completely off put by it. Either way, I'm glad that's not the case and Mimeko is taking the whole thing in stride.

Slightly off topic, but I started learning Japanese 2 weeks ago and one time I needed a picture or a cat walking. Because of that, I went to google, but I still had a Japanese keyboard up on my phone and couldn't be bothered to switch to a different one. Proceeded to just decide to search ねこ instead. Google ended up showing catboys instead of cats lol

The Doraemon one sounds a lot like the 2channer who claimed to have heard Izumi Sakai singing the morning she died.

really like the RL visuals you make, very nostalgic. Please don't change to the AI gen stuff. thank you for the video! PS- that face changing of the 'me from 1 year' video - the distortions happen when he moves his head suddenly which points to the common compression artifacting (errors) for the technology back then ;P many cursed images/videos were created with causing it intentionally- altho i don't think the video in question was intentional.

Putting Metroid fusion music with the part of marchen village in the video fits really well as both the setting of the game and this park are both deserted and abandoned. It even added more creepiness factor to the village factor that I scared Well Creepy abandoned places is my weak point actually. 😅 anyway thats really good spooky video sakura thank you, and I hope you well recovering from surgery and be in great health. 😊💖👍

You did your research! I'm Japanese and I've never even heard of some of these. But then again, they're are urban legends, and I was never one for tabloids.
