Sometimes you just have to set boundaries with each other and accept that the job really ain't that important. Back when I worked a customer service job there was an unwritten agreement between all staff members that in the event of a customer dispute, the customer was always wrong, we would never take the customers side in anything and in the backroom we would all agree to call them a cunt. It might sound childish but stupid little things like that make work more tolerable.

In shorter words: "The reward for work done well is more work."
@kos291916 сағат бұрын
This is actually a genuine advice because a lot of people who work for corporates knew that even when they keep giving the company their 120%, rather than giving you compliment and raise, the corpo simply giving you more workload with the same paycheck. And if you demand a pay rise, they will laugh at you and replace you with a young graduate who willing to work for less. Risu knew this because it happen a lot in Indonesia, and my relative was the victim of this. Poor guy struggling to get a job after 30 because the company is too cheap to keep him even after years of hard work and Indonesian companies are notorious to hire younger recruits if they can. The only way to keep a job or getting another job easy for people over 30 is to gain enough skill sets that make you irreplaceable. This is where the Risu Malas tactic work. Do mid for your company, but work hard gaining more skill sets on your off time. Or gain skill sets and capital that let you start your own business. It's harder in Indonesia than US where people are compensated better financially.

A public announcement on how Indonesian public service work. Few days ago I'm getting a certificate stamped and they said it will take a day. The next day when I got there at 10 AM, the front desk said the staff who's responsible on my certificate is getting food outside, then I came again at 11 AM & 2 PM and still no news... Then someone got angry and barged inside. Turned out the staff is in the office all along but don't want to work so they're asking the front desk to lie to guests by saying they're not inside. F*ckers

Honestly an epiphany that _massively_ improved my life. After I got diagnosed with ADHD a couple years ago I finally realized that what I had internalized as being "lazy" was actually an ongoing soft burnout I had been in for _decades._ I simply do not have the capacity for "normal" work hours. Trying to force it just leaves me mentally exhausted, and I keep scraping the bottom of a barrel that drains faster than it can fill. These days I work reduced hours, and that helps me a lot. I just need more down time to "recharge my batteries" if you will. Pretty sure I even end up achieving more that way than I would in more work hours, simply because I manage my energy levels much better. Giving it your all can end up leaving you with nothing. Give it as much as is sustainable instead. It'll be much better for everyone involved.

Plus I hate driving, so I set myself up that I can get by with public transit. 20€/month for all public transit across the whole country is nothing compared to what I'd have to spend on a car. Combine those with me being conditioned to only spend the absolute minimum necessary from growing up poor, and I end up making more money than I know what to do with.

@SKy_the_Thunder14 сағат бұрын
It also gives you a buffer for unexpected delays, so you don't end up having to rush out things in what turns out to be too little time. By taking more time than you may technically need you ensure that the result is good and you don't burn yourself out, so you can _keep_ bringing good results. In the end you actually accomplish _more_ per unit of time than if you hadn't added that buffer. Work sustainably.
@korsekil17 минут бұрын
Completely true. A simple example is the term "horsepower". 1 horse can actually do more work (moving more mass at a faster speed) than 1 horsepower, but doing so for too long would exhaust them, because the "horsepower" unit was calculated taking into account the time for rest and recovery.

In some cases, Risu's words are true. There is a toxic culture in some ID companies where the boss ought to exploit the workers to do the things that aren't the part of the job. Mostly the boss will exploit the worker who looks versatile and has hardworking behavior. For example if you are an accountant in Company A and the boss knows that you are able to do graphic designing, the boss will ask you to do a graphic design thing without giving extra compensation (or sometimes not so worthy compensation like snacks). It happens if you are hardworking too, your boss will give you some extra jobs without compensation.
