Scientists are finding more evidence that there are parallel universes-- parallel, but different to our own. Remember that show "Sliders?" Like that... Kind of. Trace breaks down what this could mean.

Karwan Kadir No, actually. You're not. Because you would have done so. There is only one you, and you made the decisions you did because you are you. Same goes for inanimate objects. Nothing would be different. You wouldn't just arbitrarily make a different decision "just because". You would make the same decision.

The fact that we are here and know the very least of what there is to know, is proof that we know nothing at all about the possibilities of what is out there. But to try and put a boundary on space and say that its not infinite is to limit the growth of humans both personally and as a whole. The fact we have species on our planet that live and flourish in the most harshest extremes for which we cannot survive only should open the minds of all of us to the possibilities that life in many other states of environmental circumstances can exist. There most likely are planets out there somewhere that probably exist where O2 is a poison and Nitrogen is the air that is breathed. Where intelligent species grow to the size of dinosaurs or to the size of beetles. The moment we close our minds is the moment we put walls up on what our intelligence is capable of. The moment we think we know everything is the moment we know nothing at all.
@loopedrope
@loopedrope 10 жыл бұрын
and if its not infinite? Just because things exist in harmful environments, doesn't mean that proves they got that way by evolution nor god... it just proves that they are there. Letting the mind run wild can be just as harmful as it could reveal the previously unknown. Facts push science, not fantasy.
@avgsitizin
@avgsitizin 10 жыл бұрын
loopedrope How could you think that its not?? You think that you would eventually hit some impenetrable wall that would stop your motion forward? And also if you think fantasy is something of the imagination then rationalize us? rationalize anything and try to make it not sound like fantasy, If you described a caterpillar to someone who had never heard of it, it would sound like fantasy. You need to keep an open mind. Life itself is a total mystery, the fact we are even here should blow your mind.
@loopedrope
@loopedrope 10 жыл бұрын
avgsitizin It's not that i think that the universe is finite, its that i don't claim to know that its impossible for the universe to be finite. The jump to conclusion without fact is what i'm attacking, not the theories. Fantasy is defined as the act of imagining the impossible. In other words... false. What i was meaning is that not everything is true, some things are false. Saying that something must be, without the facts to prove that it must be, is idiocy. Something being logical, is not a point of fact, its a guideline. Something can not make any sense, yet still be true.
@avgsitizin
@avgsitizin 10 жыл бұрын
Yea, all that's nice and dandy but in all honesty, what is most likely the case, That there is some wall or force field that would stop you like a wall had you run into it, or that you could keep going? We have evidence that it keeps going, because we cant see that it stops at all. But I will humor you, because you write like you do have at least half a brain on your shoulders, space could stop, it could be finite, but its most likely not, it most likely keeps on going... But things tend to be circles , space could just be circular and you might just travel around and around just like earth. But never will you find a wall where it seems at though it stopped.

I think if multiple universes had the same laws of physics, they would have basically the same structures, just in different arrangements. Take a Minecraft world as an example of this (not to be a super nerd.) There are only so many structures that can form, but they can form in different locations and patterns.

Which begs the questions, if there are multiple universes that collectively amass to multiverses.. Surely there could be mutliple multiverses that collectively amass to 'Hyperverses' and multiple 'Hyperverses' and so on all existing independently of one another. If this is true, than it's highly likely that an infinite amount of identical universes to ours exists, within which an infinite amount of earths and an infinite amount of you and me pondering this same theory.

You want to blow the mind. How about Gigaverse, Teraverse, GoogolVerse...GoogolPlexVerse. Why is there a limit? If there is, what is on the otherside of space. For space to "Expand", there has to be some kind of space to expand into. If there was a limit to space, then there has to be a "wall" of some sort that we are contained into. If we are not in a box, or bubble, then there is nothing outside of space meaning space is infinite.

parallel universes are supported by string theory and m theory ,it basically tells us that other parallel universes exist in different branes in a 11 dimensional hyper space(m theory),hence they are not in our 3 dimensional spacetime dimensions but other higher level dimensions(string thoery).other parallel universes might just be beside us but we cannot access it as they are in higher dimensions.another thing,it tells us that there is infinite number of universes arising from all possibilites that can ever happen and some where that possibility may repeat itself !!!,therefore there can be many versions of us leading slightly different lives,BUT STILL ITS ALL JUST A THEORY,but a promising one as it unites general relativity and quantum mechanics

I think that its is when man thought the Earth was "flat and with edge" but that was not the case the earth is round, so maybe the universe is not with a "edge" and it never ends.. Aka Eternal its hard for us to comprehend that but it is possible.

***** Basically we have an idea of how big the universe is, but if there's no boundary, when what is outside of what we consider the universe? Practically anything, as long as it goes with the laws of physics. That means outside of what we consider the universe that infinitely anything can happen if the idea of our boundary of what the universe is correct. Since it is infinite, that means there is someone out there exactly like you and has the same life and everything, and maybe the only difference is that they picked their nose this morning or something.

What I believe is that the whole concept of Heaven and Hell are gateways to other universes. If you're in this universe now, making a good living, you're with the people you love and who make you the most happy, simply living the good life, then this is pretty much your Heaven right now. However, if you often run into a lot of unfortunate moments that keep piling up in your life, live in a terrible place, receive a lot of pain, or get rejected a lot, then this would be your Hell. Whichever of the two lives you have now, you still have to press on and keep a positive attitude and respect the people and things around you. Then when your time comes, you will pass away and be judged again, and reborn in the universe that is either the life of Heaven or Hell, based on how good or bad you did in this life. I'm not too huge of a religious person, but I'm definitely really into outer space. Whenever I see or hear about all the bizarre or mythical things here on Earth, and then think "what else sorts of things happen outside our world? Whatever is going on out there, does it suddenly make everything we have and learned about here on Earth seem irrelevant?" No, definitely not. There's probably just a much more bigger connection from the things we have here to what's out there.

If the infinite multiverse theory is correct you never actually die. Whatever choice you made(or didn't make) that led to your death opens a "new" universe where you did not die because you made the opposite decision. While it appears to everyone in one universe that you have died, you actually only died in "their" universe. You continue exist in "your" universe never the wiser that in another universe your friends and loved ones are mourning your death. This admittedly is a gross oversimplification but still conceptually sound. So rejoice, you're immortal!(kind of)

You do realize that there are an infinite amount of possible Universes where life cannot exist, right? In so much as whether it can be frozen because it "has no mass", relativistic mass (energy transformed into mass) and now a rest mass can be calculated since they managed to stop it from moving for one minute. Even if they trapped it by freezing everything else around it, they still stopped it from moving for one minute. Therefore, light being trapped and not moving would exhibit rest mass, thus making it possible to freeze light itself contrary to your idea of it having no mass to do so.

I didn't really quite get all that he was saying, but i believe that if we in our universe had a big bang, then maybe there was another in another place many many times and just like he said those universes may have different laws of physics... Therefore we don't have to fear or be excited about aliens from other universes because their bodies and spaceships (if they have bodies and spaceships) would probably not be able to handle our laws of physics. Or they would just fuck it all up and end our universe by only coming here. It's another thing if they were, lets say, mass-less or maybe energy-less. Can something be mass-less or energy-less? Maybe in another universe, and maybe then they will be controlling our brains with IDK emotions? Maybe they'll play god or maybe they already am? Oh my, I can't even think anymore... My head hurts!

Hypothesis is a research question, theory is an ongoing testable explanation of a hypothesis (or many). In this case, the hypothesis was made before they launched the Planck satellite regarding the microwave radiation. Likely, there were many hypotheses. The ESA used their satellite to test their hypotheses. Then used the results to arrive at this theory of the multiverse! -- Trace

I just wanted to say that "Futurama" had a rather mind bending episode, I wish I could remember the episode in question, but I digress, the professor created a box that linked to a parallel universe and what separated the universes from each other was decisions based on a coin flip. Now this is an over simplification, since they had to almost infinite boxes with just the heads-or-tails outcomes. While you dwell on that consider the number of subatomic particles there are in the known universe. Now consider that most, if not all, are in a state of flux, or super position, each with a number of possible outcomes. Now do that for each. That is potentially how many universes there are that are similar to our own, never minding the ones that are remarkably different.

Look at "double slit experiment"... electrons interact with each other as waves, but because we and our senses are made out of electrons ourselves, we only perceive one of these interactions. That also explains the schrodinger's cat experiment. In one interaction with the radioactive particle the cat dies, and in another the cat survives. But we can only observe one of these interactions and it will be 50/50 chance that we are in either one of them. Look them up, they are very fascinating

i believe god or the creator is just pure consciousness devoid of any thought and in the beginning this pure awareness could only be aware of itself as there is nothing else to be aware of, this in turn maybe created unconsciousness in which god can begin dimensional constructions by occupying this unconscious space through its consciousness? I believe god is attempting to experience itself through the manipulation of its creation, or matter, which either generates a simulation of conscious awareness or creates a sort of plug in to itself. I believe all life in the universe is an expression of this pure consciousness and everything else is here to support and promote the evolution of god, or consciousness, its our consciousness that evolves. Also consider perhaps first types of life were singular cells that grouped together in communities to evolve into larger ones etc, more grouped together and then your left with trillions of cells grouped together and you have larger animals that express consciousness more purely than the last, we are doing it today ourselves grouping together to from digital nervous systems using the internet so we can become closer to each other connect across the world.and if we could across the entire universe with other life? thats our purpose, to promote the evolution of god, Id say in reality we are all the same, we may experience different thoughts from eachother, but without consciousness we couldn't even be aware of those thoughts on which to act upon, god is the underlying consciousness that holds everything together and it gives itself the ability to experience its creation through part of its creation aka us and gives us awareness to experience itself

There is a 99.99999999999999999999999% chance that we are not alone. Human need to stop being ignorant and assume that we are the only intelligent beings in this. multiverse... Our earth is within a solar system that contains 7 other plants, 4 in which are much larger than our earth, and one large sun. Our solar system is within the reaches of a galaxy called "the milky way galaxy" which in fact is 976'562'500 larger than our solar system and contains about 200 billion start which is just like our sun, meaning it may contain about 200 billion other galaxies with even more planet each within them. There are 100-200 BILLION galaxies in the universe. And there are an unlimited amount of parallel universes in the multiverse. BUT scientists believe that our universe may be existing in 10 different dimensions. Isn't physics amazing! Our existence is such a mystery and space is so vast and extraordinary. There is bound to be another intelligent life form out there. By the way, there is also an amount of dimensions that physicist cannot calculate how many, due to the fact that a simple human mind cannot comprehend anything above the 3rd dimension I believe. Scientist believe that there may be 5th dimension beings than experience time as a physical matter. Meaning there may be 5th dimensional beings that are capable of walking back in time and jogging up a mountain forward in time. I feel lucky that I exist in a reality that has no boundaries: By some random guy on youtube replying to a comment, aka:me

It's down to definitions. Sometimes people use 'universe' to mean 'observable universe'. Sometimes people use 'universe' to mean 'that part of the universe that is connected to our own volume of spacetime' Sometimes people use 'universe' to mean EVERYTHING => in my view, the most correct usage. In my experience, multiverse can used to represent BOTH multiple bubble universes AND well as multiple non-connected volumes of space time, depending on context.

My opinion is that it's a fascinating hypothesis with incredible implications and that it could also potentially resolve one or two mysteries here and there... but we shouldn't get to exited about it until we actually get evidences that confirm it.

here's a thought: if there are infinite universes, then there are possibly infinite duplicates of me an you, and if there are infinite mes, then if i die it will affect the universe in absolutely no way whatsoever. if every single person died tomorrow, it wouldn't even affect the universe in the slightest! and that's why i believe in God...

There is also a 50% chance for you to be a women in another universe. It actually depends if you are in anoher universe because the history can be diffrent in some universe religion doesent exist and som other universe the co-exist and some universe only religion exist, but i want to se wich one have made more progress & how our countepartsm, will look like because we will never have the same personality as in this universe. so in other universe you will not believe in god, so it is actually random for us. we have also the prime universe that in theiry is the home universe wich if you destroy the this planet in the pu, it will destroy every Earth in every universe possible, comment back if you want to.

Lerasify one gets destroyed and it starts a chain reaction that destroys the entire multiverse? but that leaves the question, do we exist in an omnivores or a multiverse? about that part of me not being christian, i kinda already know what i'd be like if i didn't believe, cause i've seen people exactly me in every way (personality wise) and the only difference i can see is that i'm a christian and they're not, simple as that.

mattmun12 Well, what's interesting about this multiverse theory is that it essentially makes everything true somewhere. Including the existence of a god. Since most gods claim to be the only god, then there cannot be Greek gods where there is the Judeo-Christian God; He is the only creator. This theory burns itself up because according to it, the Judeo-Christian God is real, and that God says there are no other gods, but this theory also says that there are other gods, such at the Greek or Hindu gods. Brahman and Yahweh cannot both exist because they are both the creators but are nothing alike apart from that.

In a way, we are living in each and every universe simultaneously, only living in the most probable area of it that allows for its solid existence. Kinda like how light shines brightest in the area that it is most likely at, even though its position is uncertain. The idea is... difficult to describe at the moment without the proper analogy.

In Fate/Stay Night, a 2004 Japanese Visual Novel, a character called Kischur Zelretch Schweinorg possesses the Second True Magic - The Kaleidescope. He's capable of moving anywhere in the multiverse. Recently, there's been a Worm CYOA (Worm is a web novel by wildbow available online for free) where you can choose the Kaleidescope as your power. Yes, that does basically mean you can write (fan)fiction of anything with yourself as the main character. Congratulations, just with the daydreams you could possibly not be bored for a long period of time. Although he might be capable of moving through time, which to my understanding would make it moving through the 10th dimension (I'm a bit sketchy on the details. I should probably read up on my dimension literature). English is not my native language and I'm on my phone. Please forgive me for making mistakes (there are probably a few).

I have a question though, I'm no expert obviously but could it be that a parallel universe isn't quite a another universe but however an extension to our universe just it also is expanding, like a black hole sucks in all of this matter then the black hole itself gets so heavy that the black hole engulfs itself then basically either warps through space and time from such a denseness (considering it's massive gravity and size it would probably be launched in the direction of the closest universes field of gravity) thus sending it hurling through space at the speed of light or even faster thrusting it either out of our "universe" and into the abyss and eventually erupting like a bomb of infinite matter creating a new "universe" relatively far from our universe and causing a new universe to be created i mean im not implying it would make matter it could take a whole galaxy of extremely large planets and stars and when displaced creates another universe of much smaller planets, and eventually it would get infinitely smaller in universe size but but we have yet to witness such an event, this could imply our universe is a speck of dust compared to others or it could be some odd natural phenomena that actually does cause some form of black hole implosion to spew out more matter than it had originally because it could be possible that a black hole consumes energy dark matter and dark energy as well for we have yet to even study a black hole at all let alone dark energy/matter there for it could be ripping the basic building blocks of atoms themselves apart and if dark energy/matter are a physical thing it would still have weight in theory. Haha no expert in science of physics but I sure if other universes existed this could be a possible theory and if the matter It shot out was the building blocks of atoms then it could easy pass through most solid objects like planets and everything especially if it was faster than the speed of light however it could also be possible that a phenomena like this could be stopped by atmospheres and kinda stick to other matter like photons from the sun do to earth and it takes billions if not trillions of years to create a universe outside of ours and it could also then be feasible that our universe was not the first either and the only reason out carbon dating is saying something is a million years old or whatever the age of something is, is because the atoms were ripped apart and reconstructed in our universe to form our universe over an extreme amount of time lol

Yeah I thought it was a pretty vague thing too. I mean, I took a university Astronomy and also a cosmology course, and of course we learned about the "theory" of other universes but they can't base it on anything because we can only see the particles emitted from our own big bang, and only as far back AS that big bang. I agree, I was lost on this video though

It has relativistic mass (meaning that it has energy which can be transformed into mass [E = mc^2]) Normally one would say Light does not have rest mass because it cannot be at rest, but being able to stop light means it is at rest for one minute and thus would have exhibited rest mass had the scientists been able to measure it.

my personal belief is that all possible existences exist, thus, its like a megaverse, one multiverse consists of an infinite number of universes each with seperate laws of physics, but there are an infinite number of multiverses to conclude every possible variation of every universe, and sets of universes, but on top of all that each universe is expanding at the speed of light into infinity, and constantly creating matter inside its "center" (due to the unknown shape of a universe it could be on the bottom left corner of a donut shaped universe, or 3/4 down a flat universe, not the middle, but the beginning point) so inside each universe could be copies of other planets, solar systems, even entire galaxies inside one universe, again, my personal belief, and if they find evidence against, I will gladly work with whatever is actually happening, as of yet, they've found nothing against, but also nothing for, so I'm using this as a place holder to my curiousity until then ^^

The idea of parallel universes is very interesting and Hugh Everett was ahead of his time, but only in a mathematical way. In this theory these extra dimensions or universes are just future possibilities and opportunities in our one three dimensional Universe of continuous creation. We are at the centre of our own ref-frame as an interactive part of this process turning the possible into the actual! This is an invitation to see an artist theory on the physics ‘time’ as a physical process!

I'm beginning to think this 'universe' of ours isn't so much a single discrete unit as we think of it, but more a result of a convergent wave or fuzzy field. Our universe is like a double-slit experiment, with each slit representing different universes. The universe we live in is the result of those waves converging, and we live in the most stable or 'probable' wave. The thing we call 'soul' can also be thought similarly. We aren't discrete units, but the result of numerous waves put together.

i have only listened up to 1:12, but from what i heard, it seems that the projectiles launched off during the Big Bang were really dense clumps of mass that when the Big Bang stopped as he just said, gave time for the universes to start expanding at near the speed of light, thus cancelling out the energy from the Big Bang and destroying the Big Bang itself. Then, each universe may have had a smaller Big Bang, which is where this theory helps produce the Big Bang Theory or something.

So, a parallel universe where we never discussed this topic wouldn't be contained in the umbrella of the multiverse is what you are saying? That seems strange, considering that would be a universe that isn't our own yet would exist just as ours does, unless I'm confusing the definition of "multiverse."
