For me personally, subs are great because I'm not a big "production for the future" guy. It's me myself and I and perpetual licenses don't make sense financially. Like you said, you use some subs too, and it's whatever makes sense for someone. For me, I have 3. Reason + (which I'm thinking I'll probably drop that because I really only use the RR, and that host needs workflow work ;) ) Presonus "plus" now (I'm on the fence about renewing that in a few months, don't really use it that much. I use Live 90% of the time now) and UAD Spark (that one I'll likely keep forever. It's WAY cheaper than buying all of those and I use about half with new ones coming every 6 weeks or so) So, I gave up on Slate (hate the wrapper, really good plugs) For what I spend and what I get it's a dramatic change vs perpetual. But as mentioned, I'm really just rockin' Live these days so the other two host subs really don't make sense. But Studio One is still dope. As far as Waves, no. Why? Because I'm like you. IF I had them installed (maybe on this new Mac? The wrapper really sucks on doze) I have all I want (I do really miss the SSL) so, I'm not buying anymore, I have no need for the sub. BUT I did want to say it's great that they backtracked. I don't know what they were thinking at first.

So here is the thing, the fact that they had these sales for months, and months, knowing that they were going to a subscription base, basically means those sales were 100% a cash grab. They showed that they didn't give a fuck about the user, and they already had a rocky reputation. This was kind of the nail in the coffin IMO.

Yeah, they had a sale just a couple of days before they dropped the new model. I agree, total cash grab. For some developers it's common to have a sale right before a new version is released, but those sales usually include a free or discounted upgrade to the new version. Waves basically did the opposite.

I can see subscriptions for people just starting out or dabble or a band that only needs it on a per album basis since you can pay on a on demand basis. I've been buying and updating for almost 30 years so makes no sense for me already have plugin overload. I only own 95% of Waves cause I went from Gold to Diamond/Studio to Mercury plus Abbey over Black Friday upgrades sales same with Arturia and IK those sales get ya lol really didn't need any of them over my core Cubase Reason NI I've been using for decades. For me subscriptions don't make sense same with buying more plugins even updates are getting hard to justify.
