I'm currently mentoring an upcoming skincare brand owner who has been making great and stable skincare products in the past 4 months.
In her effort to start selling her products to the public, I encouraged her to send me some of her products for manual challenge test.
Few weeks ago, I used dirty hand to rub the side of this cream to test the efficacy of Geogard ECT and lo and behold, this natural preservative couldn't stop yeast and bacteria from contaminating the cream.
Friends make sure you subject your skincare products to a series of challenge test before selling it to the public.
I also suggested some packaging option in this very important video.
Bacteria, Yeast and Mould need Light, Water And Oxygen to contaminate your products don't use package that will allow light into your products.
Light degrades the performance of the actives in your lotion, Please package your skincare products in amber coloured or violet airtight jar.

If you are making 100g of lotion or other product, use 0.5g of liquid germall plus (Your other ingredient will then be 99.5g)

I can't tell you that because that is not the best way to measure preservative usage. If you are making 100g of body scrub, your other ingredients will be 99.5g, Liquid Germall Plus will be 0.5g. Take care

Geogard Ultra is not a broad spectrum preservative. Geogard ECT should not have any odor if you buy it from a premium supplier. I don't use Geogard Ultra, it doesn't work well

Im using for the cream i make for myself Geogard ultra and it works perfectly for nearly a year ! I'm a chemist and i check my cream every month to see if theres any bacteria colony in it ! !The fact is that we should NEVER NEVER put Geogard or any other Eco preservatives in a plastic bottle ..Instead of it we should put it in a glass one !

If you are using real sugar, please don't bother making a lot, make little to use at a time. No preservative can preserve natural sugar as it a mold magnet. Protect yourself.

I agree natural Preservatives are not as good as synthetic preservatives. Although formulators use Hurdle Technology with 2 preservatives & well packaged. As such, Can I use Geogard ECT with another preservative? Like Euxyl. And can I useLiquid Germall plus at .5% with another preservative? Or it's strong broad spectrum preservative on its own. Sorry I know this is a long post.

A broad spectrum preservative like Geogard ECT should be good enough if you used a lotion pump. Euxyl is also a good preservative according to colleagues but I haven't tried it out. Yes you can mix preservative but be careful with formaldehyde releasing preservatives.

At 0.5% usage rate, you have nothing to worry about. A good alternative is Leucidal Liquid Complete or Geogard ECT

geogard ect is still the safest preservative for baby. Use it at 0.6%. If you are not a trained formulator, please don't make water based products for your baby. It is risky.
