There are 4 main religions in Russia: Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, and Judaism. But Russians also remember their pagan traditions and do not deny them. Russians are also tolerant of other faiths, if they do not bear a misanthropic character. Tolerance of other faiths and nationalities is the result of 1.000s of years of coexistence of Russians with many nations.

Nice video, Pal! You know, Russia is Christian land, yet not forgetting the Pagan roots of ours. And you could see it clearly - the fighters of "wall on wall" mass boxing game showed no real cruelty, hugged each other after rounds were over, sending out a clear message they are not enemies. That's no real damage intention, just the way the warriors can do some stretching and mildly show their skill to the public, that's basically it. Though, yeah, back in the day this could end a bit sadder than just a black eye.

In the Russian tradition, Maslenitsa is like a New Year, the awakening of nature takes place at the solar equinox. A very ancient Russian sacred tradition has come down to our time, which is about 11 millennia old - this is a yariya in honor of the young image of the Sun - Yarila. Honoring the young God, the young men show their strength in wall-to-wall battles and in the capture of the snow fortress of Mary (goddess of winter, frost, death). English merchants, seeing fist fights at such a spring carnival, took this idea to themselves and organized fist fighting competitions in England. This is how English Boxing appeared. But it's just like a physical contest, without sacred meanings.

Bare-knuckle boxing in has a long standing tradition. In fact, the one on one Bare-Knuckle fight was the favoured traditional form of duel between nobleman, prior to westernization by Tsar Peter the Great. Every high ranking nobleman’s entourage would have a Champion, for dealing with such challenges. The “Wall on Wall” fighting style, was in fact combat training simulation for the peasants/commoners. It is a non-lethal simulation of fighting in a shield wall. There were big rivalries between villages, and neighbourhoods in cities or towns. In the early days, the sleeves would stretched over the knuckles for protection. However, some unscrupulous men used to hide a horseshoe in their sleeves. So the arms were later required to be bare.

@@expatamerican3234 Oh, a special festival with Football Ultras forces and an undercover policeman. A video with the title “Russian ‘football fans’ in bizarre refereed ‘fights’”, published on the Mirror website on Monday, was part of an article titled “Russia's Ultra yobs infiltrated amid warnings England fans could be KILLED at World Cup.” The video and accompanying photos purport to show Russian football ‘Ultras’ in “violent action” at a “special festival.” The article also featured on the front page of Tuesday's Daily Mirror newspaper. Another caption reads “People are living in fear” - apparently referring to fear spread by Russian football hooligans - under a photo showing elderly ladies selling traditional woolen shawls. The organizers of the festival at the Izmailovsky Kremlin in Moscow, where the footage was taken, told RT that the event did not involve any football Ultras. ... It was "Forgiven Sunday" - the last day of the Carnival week. On this day, relatives and friends ask each other for forgiveness for possible offenses. For the same purpose, people can come to the graves of their relatives. This is the time of the vernal equinox, when winter turns into summer. At the end of the holiday, an effigy of winter was burned - a symbol of darkness, cold, hunger and death. Ashes were scattered in the fields to celebrate a new life, a new good harvest and a new year. In addition to the scarecrow, in the old days, a wheel tied with straw, which is a symbol of the sun and the approaching long-awaited spring, was set on fire and let down from the mountain. Be sure to bake pancakes, also some symbol of the sun if you fantasize. Perhaps fist fights on this holiday are also somehow connected with the power of the sun and life.

Just get a tourist visa ( 90 days) , buy airline tickets ( less stressful looks like USA Casablanca Morocco, Casablanca to Moscow) with Air Morocco . Let you know. I'm flying with Air Morroco next week. Btw, ask your travel agency if you're entitled to get a voucher for the hotel. Layover is 10 hours in Casablanca.

They have the burning in Santa Fe New Mexico. But I think it's way more new age and pagan ish... I think what I seen the video of whatever it is that's burning is not as pagan ish... Cuz there's a lot of new age in California and more West. So I will call it saying goodbye to Winter and hello to spring.. if I'm going to raise a big sun with flowers.. everybody's beautiful trees photos. And serve the tea from the flowers that are growing.

The Slavs for the Maslenica made a large effigy out of old clothes and straw. The scarecrow symbolizes Winter. They burn it so that winter ends as soon as possible and Spring comes.

@@КатяКатерина-м2ш thank you that was educational have me understand why they do that.. pick a lot of people did things to say goodbye to a harsh whether they had to endure. . Modern day sometimes we don't understand it or it's not practiced anymore.. when I seen they did this in New Mexico the town called Santa Fe. And this is United States not Mexico. I was like it was a huge thing and I was like what? Is this ? Santa Fe is in a higher elevation it does snow have been there before. I lived in Las Cruces, New Mexico not far from El Paso. Different climate much warmer and I loved it there. I love visiting El Paso I would go dancing with the salsa live bands .

This is fantastic ....... I am so sad it's tremendously hard to immigrate (unless you have money, the investor temporary residency works well) Best moment to immigrate was from 2000 to 2010. And Russia lacks so much workforce, do you think they are afraid if immigration is to easy they will have a lot of spies and internal saboteurs??? Is it why they make it so hard, or Russian bureaucracy is a huge bolder that moves every 50 years?
