I think people underestimate the effectiveness of propaganda and it's true purpose. There seems to be an assumption that if people don't fully believe what is being told to them, then propaganda has failed. However, the goal of propaganda is not to change how someone thinks, but rather how they act. A person can remain skeptical at their core, but so long as they espouse the correct narrative and demonstrate the preferred action (or inaction), then the message has done it's job.

Politics is the mechanism that manages the power to do that. It's not about the politicians, so much as war isn't about the soldiers. Just two people trying to make any fundamental change at a state level is politics. We don't just magically know what's right and wrong. Try to think of something that is absolutely right and good - you'll find a group of people in your country that believe in the complete opposite. You'll also find people that disagree with it being absolute even if they agree in principle, and there's even a different kind of people that will argue with you on how such right and wrong should be established in the country. To make matters even more complicated, people can change their opinions and stances and even ally with different groups once their own loses out or is threatened by a bigger one. Now a simple 9-5 job person will probably want to ignore all that and just do what they can, right? That's fine and all, but these complications will not ignore *you*. The moment this person tries to do even one thing they think is best, they're joining a group. They'll become the target of an enemy group, and even their own group may attempt to get closer to this person and cause more and more complications in their life. It's so intimidating! There is no escape, and that's why there's such a high number of politically apathetic people in a lot of countries. The moment you try making life "what it should be" you're a target and may end up in a place of responsibility where your actions can affect entire countries.

@InflightIreland Жыл бұрын
Polling shouldn't be trusted. I'm not trying to be the guy who says, "Don't trust anything russia says!!" But when it comes to polling a lot of the time, people aren't truthful. For example, the Polling agencies in Russia often cold call/ring up Russians on their phones or houses and ask them these questions. The issue here is that these places now have that address, the phone number, and many other identification details about these people who may feel worried to say what they really think. In my opinion, now I don't know this for sure. People in Russia have gotten used to 21st-century life. Just like us. Are russians honestly up for another meet grinder war like those in the past? Now, after having some semblance on luxury life and comfort. And then suddenly, an email pops through your inbox, saying that you have been drafted. What are you going to think then? When you are taken away from your good life. In 1940's Russia, the country that was attacking them not only invaded them, they were ideologically and culturally opposed to each other. And a lot of the fighting/military class Russians then were effectively living in peasant like conditions with no information on the outside world other than what the government was telling them. Today, when it comes to Ukraine, these 2 nations are culturally very close. They were a part of the same state of nearly a century. Most of them speak the same language, share the same cuisine, like the same songs, and drink the same beer. Do you honestly think that the average Russian is willing to fight someone like that. I'm not sure on this by any stretch of the imagination, but I genuinely don't believe the Russians are up for killing their cultural brothers. And for seemingly no apparent reason other than the news us telling them too. Your avergae russian now has a substantially better education than the average 1940's Russian i think they may have critical thinking skills when it comes to war. They may not like the West. fine. But do you honestly think they would be up for a war like this? I dont know. The world is a strange place

I'm from Russia. I live in Saint Petersburg. We have an elderly bloodthirsty government that is looking for a way to keep their places and wealth. Therefore, the image of the enemy is rewarded. At the same time, families are children, the property of those who can afford it, in the west. Apparently there is a manual: how to be a dictator. And there to scold the West is one of the points. Young people are different, but the generation of 18 to 40 is very rationally well educated and would like to live in a normal country, looking for opportunities to move, because they see no way out for a normal life. Most of society is depressed. In relation to 2018-2019, the number of antidepressants sold in the country increased 6 times. Society is depressed and sees no way out. Only a part of their troubles blames the West, part of the government, and almost everyone feels responsible. Helplessness and hopelessness is a common background. There are no ideas about the future of Russia, except for the most terrible and black ones.

It sounds like the same problems in the west, but worse by a big factor. It could be the lingering effects of the late Soviet era, or the slowly collapsing coalition of oligarchs and dictators. Although life is better in places like America, it still rhymes with Russia and it's a shame that our governments do not work together to solve common problems and for shared interests. While I still consider my citizenship in the U.S. a blessing, I must acknowledge the role that the military that I am apart of, the defense industry that creates our weapons and sends them to Ukraine, and the oh-so-bloodless government that we serve plays in escalating world tensions in tandem with modern dictators. I hope to visit soon one day, but not in uniform.

@@insabon In this war, Ukrainians defend the right to freedom, self-determination of their loved ones and at home. We tried to stop a lot of signatures, letters of appeal. If you go to the square under arrest, the internal troops fight only with their peaceful citizens, beat them with batons at rallies, and there are more of them than the military. but still at night someone writes words about peace in the yards where there are no cameras, and in the morning they are painted. In Russia, people are silent and endure, waiting for changes. And everyone hopes that they will not touch him, will not be taken to war, will not be touched by the security forces for words. Only the poorest, and there are many in despair, go for money that they have never seen in their lives because of debts, and there are few of them. Forced more often. Very scary. Ashamed of the old people who are not in their minds and they were poisoned by the TV. West in the meantime: here's an equal opportunity break for you! In the meantime, I heard a dialogue on the bus, a 4-year-old child says I know the colors of the flag: white is purity, blue is wisdom, and red is the blood of our soldiers. This is in kindergarten .... I was ready to hit the bus window in desperation. My child goes to school, they introduced 2 patriotic lessons a week, they plan 2 more. Please... this should not be... Why is the solution of questions about domination, about financing military blocs, going at the expense of our lives, at the expense of Ukrainian and Russian children and their future? I had been playing an online game over covid in the same team as russians europeans brits and ukrainians and no one hated anyone for a few years. Then the war broke out to start ukrainians and russians were still friends took months for the cracks to show. Russians didnt even know what was going on to start with. Sad thing is everyone were mates when i left that was no longer the case.

I’m Russian and I’m leader of union in some online game. In our union there are a lot of Russians and Ukrainians. We play, talk, support each other. After 24 February there were many emotions and tears. But we made it, we are still together and just don’t talk about war. Ordinary people understand that it just cruel political game.

I had a few good Russian friends, all women from Moscow, they had no negativity towards the ''West'' at all, it is Putin who is dragging Russia into this imperial almost medieval mindset of conquest and dying for the motherland.

As a Russian I want to say, that most of us believe that approach of European countries on Russia is unfair. After Soviet collapse Russians believed they could be a part of European community, but they were wrong. We hate your leaders for false hope to be a part of European world, hate your politics, but we have nothing against ordinary people.

We must always, no matter what, work towards peace. We are all human beings and should be looking after one another. More than anything, we’ve got to work together to look after our planet. Cutting ties is not the way to go about it, we should cooperate, accept our differences and find common ground. The human race will always be better off for it

I would take the Polling with a grain of salt.

I received one of those polling phone calls. Woman asked me do I support the military operation. I answered - yes. Then she asked who is responsible for starting the conflict. I said - Ukraine. Easy questions. Russia is accused of kidnapping Ukrainian children. Ironically it's USA who kidnaps Ukrainian children since 1991 for re-education. Today we see a new generation of brainwashed Ukrainians programmed to obey American master and to hate Russia.

This is a confrontational statement ...if you say don't listen so they should listen to the other side.....you are right and we wrong....the war didn't just start from thin air.....issues has to be addressed from both sides......not his evil we good....every one believes his good in his own head and justifies his or her decisions
@InflightIreland Жыл бұрын
@bless04 I'm not arguing for the cause or politics of it it. I'm talking about ethical reasons and what the average Russian is realistically facing. Its politics has nothing to do with the situation that I am talking about. And that's the sad fact. Politics always affects those who have no involvement in it. If you can't see the men behind the war machine, then good luck and good day to you, sir. In no way was I disregarding the results, nor did I tell anyone to. I was simply saying that they should be taken with a grain of salt due to the political climate I russia on free speech
@alexsilent5603 Жыл бұрын
@@InflightIreland Political climate in Russia is much healthier than in western countries. European rulers have very low support because they refuse to hear their own people. In Russia Putin regularly gives big interviews where anyone can ask him a question.

The film is riddled with Western propaganda. And in the comments one can feel how deep Russophobia is rooted in the brains of Western society. Some Russian comments are very funny for me to read. As if we are intimidated and afraid of Putin. No. We are proud of our President. We love and support him. During the 20 years of his presidency, Russia has become a mighty power. It is nice and comfortable for people to live in it! He is a wise and strong leader!
