Very good advice. No matter how much I research a specific watch, there is no way I could tell if it is a Frankenstein watch or not-- only handling the watch with a trained eye and years of experience can help make an informed decision. So paying more from an experienced vintage trader is peanuts compared to buying a watch that is no longer "original". One concern about vintage that Fathom Watches did not cover is if you send a vintage watch into Rolex for a service as an example, and they replace parts with genuine Rolex parts that are not manufactured in the year the watch was made, does this devalue the price of the watch? Would you buy such a watch o resell to your clients at Fathom Watches?

@@dannysimenauer5745 You are a correct to a degree. Rolex will change original parts to newer service parts but they do quote you first and you have the option to reject the replacements and just have a movement service for instance. They just won’t give you a waterproof warranty. Service parts do of course affect the value of an item. So it’s all relative. If any items have service parts we would disclose in the description.

Hey! I just discovered your channel and wanted to send my support from Switzerland on this amazing journey! The video is really well done and covers a super interesting topic. Stef clearly knows his stuff. The editing is superb, honestly at the level of a much bigger KZbinr! If I could give some recommendations to make the video even more enjoyable, I'd suggest turning the music down just a bit. It's not too loud, but a slightly lower volume would be better. I really like the switches between the two cameras; the left one adds a nice touch. However, the front camera shot could be improved. The couch isn’t centered, but Stef is, which looks a bit odd in my opinion. I must emphasize once again, the editing is really, really good. There are a lot of great shots of watches and moments that perfectly illustrate what Stef is saying. It’s a real game-changer!

Great video, keep making videos about vintage watches. To add to your point about not relying on boxes and papers to authenticate a watch, If someone can fake a high quality luxury watch from the 1900’s, they can definitely fake a piece of paper and a cardboard box

Well, based on my personal experience I have another DON'T. Do not get fooled by the beautiful photography mentioned here. I flew from Europe to LA to pick up a vintage watch only to find out it looked nothing like it did in the staged pictures.

We're sorry to hear you had a bad experience! At Fathom, we are very intentional with our usage of 6000K lights that closely replicate natural light, and while we do service and clean our watches before photographing them, we *never* retouch imperfections, tweak colours or boost contrast - so you can be certain that when you view the watch in person - it's likely to look better than in the photos, but definitely never a disappointment!

@@lunam7249 We definitely don't! We'll be releasing a longer video soon detailing our photography process, from receiving a watch in our showroom, to finished images on the website with every step shown, keep an eye out.
