Do's and Don'ts Of DIY Livewell Installs {Lowe 1436 Jon Boat Conversion}

Anyone can do this!!! This is a straight forward video on how to build a DIY Livewell for your jon boat. A livewell is a re3ally cool enhancement for any boat especially a jon boat to bass boat conversion. All materials needed to do this are linked below. This is the perfect little livewell is you have a small boat and you want to start tournament fishing or save your catches for cool pics. Let mem know in the comments if you have any questions. Only thing id change is having the straining tube going to the rear and not the side. I know the side was more convenient but it will be easier ti damage it having it in the side plus it will add more drag.

Pretty much did mine the same way but didn't run my water in from side of boat did from rear so never got the air lock issue

Great vid! Are you adding somewhere else an equivalent amount of flotation foam you removed, so you won't sink if something/someone swamps the boat? One or two part pour foam (lifeboat foam) would take advantage of the unused space around your livewell, and have the side benefit of gluing the livewell in and giving it structure so the brackets are unneeded. Cordon off an area around your pumps.

I’m sure you’re asking yourself if swapping the pumps to begin with would’ve saved you all that tubing work….but we all learned a lot 😊. Nice job as usual, you are a craftsman.

Great video only thing i would be worried about would be that the pump arerator would be to strong for the tub you are using pumping to much oxygen in the water result killing the fish

You know if you installed a flow rite valve you could eliminate one pump.. one pump with a 3 way flow rite valve would let you pump water in , then recirculate , or automatically recirculate and keep adding fresh water.. and gravity drain

Does the pump need a switch to control off and on. Or does pump have a power switch.

Could you have used a cooler for the live well? This way you have a build in lid for it.

You could but would have to figure out how to integrate the existing cooler lid into your hatch.

Where does the bottom drain in the livewell empty to?

The livewell has a pump out the side of the boat and any remaining water drains our the bottom out the back plug.
