The one thing I would add (having 4 tattoos by 4 different artists) is to always listen to your artist's advice. They all have different tips and tricks for care and healing, and they all tend to know what they are talking about.

I needed this!!! I was REALLY iffy about getting a tattoo when I'm old enough because I had no idea what to expect or what to do or how to plan or anything so yeah... I'm glad I have a base idea now, thanks!

Well, I didn't tip my tattooer, but I've been there ten times now, so I guess she knows that I appreciate her work, haha. Been working on a traditional native american sleeve on my left arm the last couple of months because I am totally in love with these kind of tattoos.

As far as tipping, it is very dependent on the studio. Some studios charge more as policy instead of taking tips.

Speaking from someone who works at a tattoo shop and has multiple tattoos including a Finding Nemo arm sleeve, all these tips are great the only thing I would add is if you dont like using aquaphor cause its all goopy and gross I highly recommend using After Inked its basically a better version, just google it and check out there website and I think they sell it on amazon as well

Two DO's I would add: 1) Have some sort of Gatorade type drink on hand for while you're getting the tattoo done, especially if it's going to be long, and even more so if you get really nervous. Those will help keep your body more even keeled. 2) Figure out your artist's personality as quickly as you can (best way: ask!). I tend to get VERY chatty when I'm getting tattooed, and I try to warn the artist up front. Thankfully, both of mine have been happy to chat away (the first one is the one who insisted I should have the sports drink, which made things better for all involved), but if they're the type that prefers more quiet concentration to work, it can make for an awkward situation. Also, in some jurisdictions, tattooing someone who is under the influence isn't just a moral question, but is actually against the law. So be careful!

When it comes to tattoos the best advice I can give is to really make sure whatever your getting is something that you want to have on your body for the rest of your life. And to remember that when your 18 your tastes and interests will start to change the older you get. So you might get something you regret later on. So be sure to choose wisely because what you think is cool now will not always be the same way you feel 5 to 10 to 20 years down line. From personal experience I went overboard right when I turned 18 and started spending all my money on tattoos. Well now many years down the line I can honestly say that I don't care for any of them except for 1. And also don't be one of those people that follows tattoo fads. You'll regret it later. I've met tons of girls who regret getting "tramp stamps' and guys who regret getting those chinese symbols, barbed wire, and tribal tattoos when they were popular.

This stems from a general hatred of tipping in general, but tipping is fucking obnoxious. If I'm charged what they think is appropriate for the tattoo I'm getting, that's what they're getting. Praise and thanks, along with repeated business, are what you get for a good job. If I plan on spending consistently, why should I also throw more money at them on top of the huge amount of money they're already getting

Two big things to mention. Use an unscented soap because the chemicals for the scent can irritate it. Also. DONT scrub when you clean it for the first few days. Dab it with the soap and pat dry it.

Some really great advice. Been inked for 30+ years and made two major mistakes you mentioned. I didn't do sunscreen and I was working outside mixing pool bottoms. I almost completely burned out the white (hard to keep color under any conditions) and lighter colors on my arm tats. I also made the mistake of having several drinks before he shot the color in my demon tattoo. He was late meeting me for an evening appointment (pre cellphone days) so instead of sitting in the car and waiting I popped into the bar a few doors down. Now I wasn't intoxicated and he'd tattooed me before he just warned me I'd bleed. Two girls who'd stopped in practically ran out the door. I was just running with blood. Had to shoot the color again because I was dumb. You can see my tats (horrible quality pics) here: the-ayrie.net/tattoos/ What I really need is a great local portrait artist, I can't afford to fly out to see Kat Von D or Jack Rudy two of my favorite portrait artists. I want this pic of my dad from WW2 covering my right forearm: the-ayrie.net/scans/dad-usmc.jpg Love your ink. Take care.

I must ask Morgan, some people told me that it kinda tickled getting a tattoo but I wasn't sure, but I am guessing as you said there comes with pain getting them, one question is, is there a way they can numb you so you don't feel as much pain like they do when you go to the dentist and they fill cavities? and does it depend on where on your body where you get the tattoo where it feels more painful? cause I will tell you a interesting story Morgan, there used to be a wrestler by the name of bam bam bigelow back in the old wwf days that had tattoos of flames on his bald head and people used to find that interesting how someone would have needles shoved in their head, hut yet he had them, he passed away now but it was interesting cause they were always asking themselves, how can anyone have needles put in their head like that?
@DanielBetancurToro7 жыл бұрын
There are some creams and products that do that before getting the tattoo done, what I have been told by several artist is that it causes the ink to do not go that deep on your skin, so it ends up ruining the tattoo and fading away creating the need for another session.
@Barbievel7 жыл бұрын
lol this is so pathetic. If you're that worried about the pain don't get a tattoo.
@Hawk19667 жыл бұрын
They hurt. Some areas more than others. I never had much trouble with the pain until we got over my shin bone then it was painful. You want ink you live with the pain that's all there is to it.
