Great video, Tom. Question: What are the best ways to remove ink from your hands? - from your desk? - from the carpet? Accidents do happen.
@GoldspotPens5 ай бұрын
My inky fingers doesn't last for long. Between washing with soap after using the bathroom and washing the dishes (both done at separate times), my hands usually end up ink-free by the end of the day. Folex is great for carpet stains. For the desk, I haven't figured that one out, especially if it's wood.
@fancyyahoo3 ай бұрын
Cannot answer for desk and carpet, but for hands: in my experience, other than what Goldspot Pens suggested, I wash my hands with shaving cream if I stain my fingers with ink. The stains get almost-completely removed within an hour or two, with the cream itself removing quite some of the ink right when washing hands with it.

I'm a relative newcomer to fountain pens, but a long time paper crafter, so have had lots of inky hands. Lava soap works great. It doesn't dry out your skin. When all else fails, I've used some spray bleach cleaner. That has also worked for ink stains on formica counter when cleaning pens.

Two things - the finishing of the nib's tip and the toothiness of the paper fibers. Leuchtturm paper and the Regalia paper in Endless notebooks have a lot of tooth. If you combine it with a Sailor nib (especially MF, F, or EF), you'll be in heaven with the sound.

Here's an actually useful tip that works: before closing your bottle, wipe the neck of the bottle(top of the rim and threads) as well as the inside of the cap with a dry tissue to remove most of the ink and then with a damp tissue until the tissue stays completely clean, then with a dry tissue again to get rid of any moisture. Do this every single time you open the bottle; you need to wipe your pen after filling anyway, you may as well do the bottle while you're at it. Sailor even prints this procedure on the flaps of some of their ink bottle boxes as a recommended practice to stop your ink from going off. I will also name a brand that frequently got mouldy for me in the past: Herbin. I haven't had an issue for many years since I started wiping the cap and bottle, though. They do say something along the lines of only using natural ingredients, so they probably don't add a fungicide.

That Leonardo Pen looks amazing! I have pen-related question. Sometimes when I don't use a pen too often, the ink looks darker. Why does this happen? Is it an ink or pen problem (or both)? Is there a way to prevent this form happening?
@GoldspotPens5 ай бұрын
It's because the water content of the ink is slowly evaporating. Therefore, a higher concentration of dye is left in the pen's feed, leading to a darker, more saturated color. The only way to prevent this is to write with your pen more often, or clean it out entirely if you are planning on not using it for a while.

@LivingArmor1965 ай бұрын
I believe it's based on the width of the feed. A #5 nib feed is approximately 5 millimeters wide.
@judyjacobs58275 ай бұрын
@@LivingArmor196: Iirc, the width of the nib at the shoulder (widest part of the nib) and across the arc closest to the grip can help determine the nib size. Be aware that lots of nibs and pen brands have their own size designations, and that the curve of the nib can differ a lot from one pen and another of the same width. If you have a plastic feed, it's harder to get a workable fit than if you have an ebonite feed, which can flex a bit if heated in hot water for a moment.
