I decided to film a relaxing plant chores vlog this past weekend! I did lots of repotting, transferring my alocasia corms to fluvial stratum and also switched and made more moss poles. I'll do a separate watering vlog. I really hope you enjoy this style of video and I can't wait to do more of them!

The one thing I really got out of this vid is the importance of making a list. I don't usually do that, I just spot check and 'ad lib' as I go which has made me feel a little overwhelmed. So thank you for the idea of a list. I know it's probs logical for you but with my brain fog (thanks COVID 😩) it's just a slow mind process for me hehe.

A very comprehensive video, for sure, and once again I’m impressed with your organizational skills. Good stuff. A thought came to me that with your extensive plant collection the air quality in your house must be very healthy given all the photosynthesis taking place there. Plants are healthy additions to a home, another benefit of owning them. Thanks.

With fluval stratum it’s easier to get theme roots out and not have to pull all the moss of the roots.

I'm over here doing the same thing with all of my plants! I spent Sunday and Monday trying to slowing treat for pests amd find places to put my balcony plants, inside. I ordered a couple of grow lights and the little plant areas thoughout my apt. turned out so cute! I still have e some work to do on the plants that are only outdoor plants but im glad I have a new video to watch while I'm working! Happy Fall and good luck with your planty chores!!

I don't really rinse my fluval as it contains nutrients but a light rinse is fine. I use it as a semi hydro situation for props as it dries out too fast without a water reservoir in my experience. After moving my props from fluval if it seems like it's breaking down I reuse it by adding it to my soil mix. Love fluval overall!

I read a thing somewhere that the company for Fluval Stratum actually says to not rinse stratum. I tried rinsing it before for an aquarium the first time I used it too, and the stuff coming out under the sink never stopped.
@plantsbymelissa
@plantsbymelissa Жыл бұрын
I've been getting mix suggestions on rinsing and not rinsing but someone else said for plants not in aquariums I should lightly rinse. I wonder why they said to rinse on the packaging if they didn't want it to be rinsed lol

Hi Melissa!! Just loving your videos! I am wondering why you would switch out a moss pole for a wooden stake? I would imagine the arial roots have nowhere to root on a wooden stake and can the wooden stake rot in the wet soil?
@plantsbymelissa
@plantsbymelissa Жыл бұрын
Hi thank you! They don't need a moss pole because the aerial roots will grow straight through them so it's kinda pointless. This plastic one is not sturdy and their leaves will grow and mature without them. They just need support as they grow. I suppose it could rot but I'm not too worried about that, I can always switch it out down the road :)

When you’re repotting do you always loosen the soil and get it loose like you’re doing with your micans? How do you choose who to change the soil?
@plantsbymelissa
@plantsbymelissa Жыл бұрын
Not always, it really just depends on each plant I repot and what I feel like doing, The micans I didn't repot yet and a lot of it was the grower's mix and sorta compacted to I wanted to get rid of some of it :)
@lisaanglim9588
@lisaanglim9588 Жыл бұрын
Why don’t you plant the aerial roots in the soil. I’ve seen others do that.
@plantsbymelissa
@plantsbymelissa Жыл бұрын
I didn't want the aerial roots to take up room in the pot for soil roots to grow. They grow pretty fast and it would make me repot it sooner than I would need too plus I like the look of the aerial roots out :)
