This is perhaps one of the best examples I've heard of what fun a good jam session can be. It's clear by the happy faces the shouts of encouragement and the respectful way in which everyone participates. What fun!!!

I'm 70 Years Old. This tune (between more as houdred jazz tunes) is probably my favorite I learn (if I am not mistaken) by Jabbo Smith and play since 1959 (lead guitars or tenor banjo with my ownd "guitar band") each week-end. I like the trompet melody line and the chords contruction. It's the first time I hear this tune in a jam session. Gratulations to all nice musicians ! This upload change with (in jam sessions) "Tiger Rag", "High Society" or "Blues in Bb"...Best wishes from France. Jo

The tune is "Do something" from the 1929 film "Nothing But the Truth". Recorded back then by Helen Kane the "Boop Boop a Doop Girl", Florence Oldham"The Whispering Soprano", Sam Lanin groups under a couple of names, and McKinney's Cotton Pickers among others. It's been revived in the last few years by Katie Cavera and others. Really fine jam here.

Thanks for this wonderful upload-it is my favourite bit of jazz on youtube because it stays faithful to that style of 1920s hot playing that somehow got lost from the 30s onwards, with a few exceptions. I agree with David Glowacki that it is all the better for being recorded indoors. Lots of fine musicians so it is unfair to pick out any but I must! The two trombones were both great, the first trumpet soloist had a nice tone like Bix,bass sax-Rollini would have been proud and very pleasant banjo, not forgetting excellent alto solo at the beginning.

Whenever those of us olde timers(am 70) despair that when we go beyond the music dies behind us, we have the Andy Shrumm groups and new comers like Mike Davis and Josh Holcomb. Long may they be so!!

I love how, after 3 cans of Pabst, the trombone player has lost his pants. This is a common occurrence in the jazz and ragtime bands I've played in. As I was a tuba player, after 3 cans of Pabst I usually had to recover a sandwich from somewhere inside my horn, and no, I didn't put it there.

The sound is so much better when played indoors as you get a bit of reverb. When they jam outdoors the sound gets a bit lost out in the open
