A majority of Venezuelans are using account renting for both Lyft and Uber. She won’t see the DNA results because it will shock everyone in downtown and affect business. But yeah, every time I get an Uber or Lyft around downtown and the driver doesn’t even know English and looks like he just arrived into the U.S last year I don’t even step in.

Saying it is "never" the fault of the victim feels like the right and kind thing to do. Victim blaming seems akin to punching down. Conversely, if we believe we are powerless, we always will be. Giving our power away and saying there was and remains nothing we could do to avoid being a victim again, leaves us feeling victimized and fearful. A more nuanced approach can be more healing and protective than over simplified moralistic value statements. I suggest both taking note of the driver matching the app and carrying a weapon. The situation can be mitigated with a little thought and preparation.
