Dolly Parton, not David Foster, wrote and released "I Will Always Love You" nearly 20 years before it was used in The Bodyguard. In fact, it was one of Dolly's many chart-topping country hits!

I will always love you WAS NOT written for the movie. It's a cover of a song by Dolly Parton! I saw a tik tok of someone saying a white man singing this song was cultural appropriation. But it was written and sung by a white woman, covered by Whitney Houston.

Oh yes it is. Dolly wrote and sang it in 1974 (it was a single), recorded it again for The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas soundtrack in 1982 - then The Bodyguard bought the rights for Whitney to use it for the movie. In fact, Dolly thanked Whitney for making her all that money. The other original big hits in The Bodyguard are I Have Nothing and I'm Every Woman, which David Foster and Linda Thompson did co-write for Whitney and the movie.@@theresebell1198

No, no, no! Producer Beba is incorrect. Starting at 15:31 she says that "... there's actually the most iconic Whitney Houston song was written for this movie." and this simply is not true. Dolly Parton wrote it back in 1973 as a farewell to her business partner Porter Wagoner when she was wanting to start her solo career. It was not written for "My Bodyguard", but Dolly tells of hearing Whitney's version on the radio while driving and she said that she had to pull over and listen because it was so good. Dolly says that Whitney made that song her own, but it was not written for her. Get your facts straight!

Dang! I didn't realize how many rom-coms I watched in the 90's. I Will Always Love You was written by Dolly Parton in 1974. It wasn't written for The Bodyguard. I Have Nothing was. The only one of the movies I never saw, except fir bits and pieces, was The Wedding Singer. I'm not a fan if Adam Sandler. I *did* like 50 First Dates but I watched it for Drew Barrymore.

I just rewatched my best friend’s wedding on a whim, and I see this video today😅…. They don’t make rom coms like they used to anymore

1. Dolly Parton wrote "I Will Always Love You", David Foster produced this version 2. Dolly wrote the song and released her version nearly 20 years before "The Bodyguard" came out. 3. How is "The Bodyguard" considered a rom-com?????? Yes, there is a romantic aspect, but it's also about someone needing protection from a stalker, and does not have the cliche happy romantic ending that rom-coms are known for. (Although admittedly My Best Friend's Wedding also doesn't have the traditional happy romantic ending either and I do consider that movie a rom-com)
