"you do not have to do side content at all" YESS. Thank you!! I don't understand people complaining how the side content ruins the pacing. It literally doesn't, you don't have to do it. If you want good pacing, skip the side content then, or only do some. And yes, the Queen's Blood tournament is completely skippable.

@@BltzZ I enjoyed doing the side content including the World Intel missions but the World Intel missions can only be done once and never again. I personally would not have minded doing them again on NG+ But I recognised not everyone would, so I sent feedback to Square asking them if they could implement it as an optional choicce to players. What this means is that when players select NG+, they are first given the choice to reset the regular side missions (the green icons) as the game currently does, and then, proceed to give players a separate but similar option to reset the World Intel missions if they so desire. Such an option would allow players to more freely enjoy a playthrough without feeling that they are being forced to undertake quests they might not want to do a second time.

some good news: you still get the Red XIII cutscene if you skip the queen's blood tournament. id still recommend beating Red because the reward, assess earrings, allows you to free up a materia slot and still assess in the open world while maximising your materia growth

Two tips. In remake you can buy the weapons you missed in the Shinra building close to the first combat simulator. Tip two is for rebirth hard mode. If you need to heal and can’t get to a chocobo stop use team members that are not in your party. That way you save your mp for battles.

Great vid as always. Don't know if you mentioned it before and I never see anyone talk about it, but Tifa's Focused strike can be used as "perfect parry" if you time it correctly and it refunds a whole ATB which is just broken. That plus ATB assist means you can constantly refresh everyone's ATB without a Yuffie cheese. Then obviously the defensive synergy skills work as a "perfect parry" too and do insane damage, but not as much ATB refund as Focused strike,

Just did my Hades farming last night... what a slog! Especially hated the box throwing segments with Cait Sith. I think it was a mistake, Cait is already difficult to like with his weird combat mechanics, giving him a frustrating mini game only made it harder for players to like and want to use him.

In R1 wasn't there some weirdness where an enemy can be immune to time Materia unless staggered but then can be affected by it, but some can't and there's no indication which is which. I can't remember if that's still the case -I haven't replayed R2 since launch because I was waiting for the PC version but I guess we'll see. The PS5 version was ok in Fidelity mode but the overall lower resolution/blurriness kind of killed it for me after Intergrade had essentially near PC image quality the whole way through and a great performance mode. I'd been playing the 4K+ PC version of R1 for a couple years so I guess I spoiled myself at R2's PS5 launch.

You say shame on me for missing a "godlike cutscene" by forfeiting the Chapter 5 Queen's Blood tournament? I'm 90% certain I tried doing so on the PS5 version, and still got to see Red XIII's dance moves afterwards. As far as side content being skippable, I have a hunch that players who claim otherwise are confused by certain story sections that feel like minigames, such as the box throwing at Shrina Mansion or chocobo catching in the Kalm area (I'm fairly sure chocobo catching in the other areas can be postponed until after getting fast travel or even chapter select). Also, it seemed like the games at Costa Del Sol weren't skippable, though I did notice I could still progress even if I got a really low score on those.

The game uses mesh shaders so requires DirectX 12.2 (DX12 Ultimate). Similar to Alan Wake 2 on release, unless there is some (much slower) fallback that Square Enix made then it just won't work. If something like that exists then modders may be able to expose it but it isn't likely to exist imo. The only thing to get it to work would be more dev time to convert the modern / efficient mesh shaders to traditional methods, and the game would run much worse on the old hardware, so its kind of self defeating. I wouldn't hold my breath tbh.

Just an update to my previous post, there appears to be a .dll mod that allows the game to run on GTX 16XX cards. I haven't tested it as I have no need for it, but thought I'd mention it seems to exist. No idea how it'll run for people though. Note I'm pretty sure this won't work for Pascal (GTX 1080 etc) as the GTX 1650 was a cut down Turing (RTX 20XX) with out tensor cores so may still "unofficially" support mesh shaders, this is speculation as I don't own a GTX 1650. If you want to find it, go to the FFVII Hook mod's Nexus page on the FF7 Remake nexus and look at the comments, it is posted by "mpq1671".

the combat system in this game is the single biggest mistake they made. If you wanted me to control 3 characters, shoulda just normal ATB battles just like the original. Stagger, and generating "turns" from actions and synergies and crap is stupid. Either shoulda went full action combat like 16, or full ATB combat like a real final fantasy game.
