This was hard. I got to thinking in terms of even and odd digits -- but I didn't color them. I just used them for eliminating digits from cells. Thinking in terms of even and odds made it easier to find restricted cells. After entering enough bi-value cells, I found a Y-wing that did something -- it removed a 9 and gave me a pointing pair in 9s, but it might still have been superfluous. I couldn't cornermark much, and I couldn't use 5+ houses. The only thing other than centermarking the grid was to search out restricted cells -- at least as far as I could tell. The puzzle finally cracked when I placed a 3 in R3C6. QotD: Will I enter a Sudoku tournament in 2025? No. 6:50 The 39-pair: I only found the lower 39 of the two cells. That was one of the three Y-wing cells. If I'd found both 39 cells, the Y-wing would have placed the 3 in the upper cell, and possibly cracked the puzzle earlier. The Y-wing used 389. R6C2 had 89, R6C4 had 38, and R8C4 had 39. R8C2 with 259 had its 9 eliminated, and the pointing pair of 9s pointed at the upper 39 cell. 7:30 Of course, the 39-pair breaks the Y-wing.

This was a tricky pair to spot, John. It's probably why they rated it the hardest classic of Round 2.

Fun puzzle. If you focus a bit earlier on the 24 pair along row 3, you can disambigiate the rest of row 3 without difficulty. Next you also see there is a 28 pair in row 3 (matching the 24 pair of row 3) Once you have done this, there is really nothing but basic sudoku remaining to finish the puzzle pronto.

Each to their own, personally I find it a fun and mentally rewarding challenge. If it’s not for you then you’re on the wrong channel, but no need to be rude to the creator or anyone following the channel and hobby!

​@@SmartHobbiesi wanted to ask whether you think my situation is normal or not. I was becoming better and better and solving sudokus, learning patterns and all of that stuff unitl i reached the hardest difficulty I could find in Google Play (I play on mobile) and suddenly I noticed that despite using a few patterns every now and then, I always ended up solving the puzzle by mentally looking for contradictions or cells that were always true (obviously I looked for bivalue cells because it would take me a very long time if i analysed 3+ possibilities). What i liked about solving these puzzles was recognising patterns that eliminate candidates rather than doing a sort of trial and error. I tried to learn as much techniques as I could but idk maybe I should learn more I guess.
