I cant believe how insanely easy and to the point your videos are and are exactly what is lacking in most of the other youtube channels. Extremely informative, precise, well made and easy to watch. This channel needs to be among the top of the crop as far as this style of content is concerned... Thanks a lot Chris for all of these gems.

The deadband settings are key, especially for a more organic and less mechanical feel ... something BIG I don't hear many people talking about with gimbals is don't rely 100% on the machine! Example, when panning, if you don't want the shot to stop with a MECHANICAL feel, then with your arm/hand/body gradually let it fade to a stop. Basically if you want to pan smoothly to 24 inches to your right, then around 20 inches to your right, start to slow down your physical movement so it eases into 24 inch to the right target, maybe even floating a bit past 24 inches. This is a skill to work with the gimbal. Not as tough as a steadicam, but was a huge life changer for me when I realized this approach for making specific gimbal shots feel more organic. It's the same way when braking with a car and pushing the brake pedal .... you can fade into a stop, or you can jam on the brakes and come to a sudden stop. And all that is affected by the sensitivity of the brakes (deadband).

Chris this is literally the answer to my late night just last night.. I was trying different settings and I was under the impression that the deadband was needed to be set to low to be smoother and I thought of changing everything else except that!!! And now this video came out!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!

For Ronin gimbals, if you are in a situation where you need to be shooting continuously, you need to tilt a lot and you don't need the wheel for anything else, I'd recommend using it for panning. With a bit of practice, you can really get smooth shots with it while not having to worry about how you hold the gimbal if you were in the pan-tilt-follow mode.
@eduardman35889 ай бұрын
Just perfect! Congrats! After spending weeks on viewing pros “talking numbers” I’ve said to myself - no way and arrived to almost the same settings for all my settings. The only different thing is blocking the joystick to only panning in PF mode and pan&follow in PF mode…and after that I found your video and received the confirmation of my settings! Good luck with your channel!
@CraigHallVideo Жыл бұрын
Great video. I mostly use the R2 system on movies and am constantly adjusting my deadband - its the secret sauce of the ronin systems. One quick note is that I'll often run a higher deadband on my tilt axis than my pan, and helps to take out footsteps, especially for running and chase sequences.
@spelunkerd Жыл бұрын
I'm trying to find 'deadband' on the menu for the Ronin RS2, haven't found it yet. Does it go by another name? The RS2 uses terms like smoothness and speed and stiffness, corresponding to each axis.
@spelunkerd Жыл бұрын
Oops, I found it in the Raveneye software, under user profile.
@petrub2710 ай бұрын
So when you walk do you use the tilt axis? I thought is better to set it to pan follow only
@CraigHallVideo10 ай бұрын
@@petrub27it depends on the shot and the focal length but I generally need control over tilt axis so I keep it on.
@droneeye2618 Жыл бұрын
I also found I can hold the trigger which locks the axis and then do small pans and tilts with the joystick. I recently did a job where I filmed a show on a telephoto lens walking around and this worked really well!

revisited this before filming Kygo last night and mannn it allows you to focus on the shot and not "will it be smooth"... bc it will, just walk and watch the shot and your steps and these settings allow the rest. whew. big thx
