It wasn't a piece of outdoor power equipment but right before the winter of 1997/98 set in my wife told me to put the carpet shampooer out on the back porch. The porch was enclosed but not heated. I began to calmly tell her that we couldn't keep it on the back porch because the water that could not be drained out of the pump would freeze and bust the pump. I got about half a syllable out when she interrupted me, screaming like a banshee at the top of her lungs that she wanted it on the back porch. I promptly stored the carpet shampooer right where she wanted it, vowing to myself that I'll be damned if I'm buying another one. Later the following spring after the divorce before she moved out l noticed the puddle of water under the carpet shampooer. Yeah, I let her move it to her new house to find out for herself that it would no longer work.

I would also recommend unscrewing the garden hose inlet and the pressure hose from the wand after each use. I had to replace the pump on mine because the aluminum inlet and electrolysis had welded the brass threads and there was no way I was able to get it off.

Too many people have zero inclination of doing the very minimal amount of maintenance on their small engine equipment, most of the time that is good for me as i am able to get some great curb-side carcasses and make some money out of them by keeping them out of the trash. With pressure washers the biggest issue is blown pumps, and for the cost of the replacement it is not worth repairing unfortunately as their is no profit to be had on that particular item. For the mineral/calcium deposits i have known for many years of the benefit of winterizing and the added benefit of cleaning the passages and rejuvenating the seals, good to see others in the business are also taking note. Cheers.

I've been winterizing my pressure washer for years with RV antifreeze. I use a short piece of garden hose attached to the inlet and fill the hose with the anti freeze. I start the motor and pump some water out, shut it off, refill the garden hose with more antifreeze start it and run it until I see pink coming out of the spray nozzle. I usually only have to fill the garden hose 2 or 3 times. I am going to check out the mechanic in a bottle for pressure washers because it does look like good stuff and we do have hard water with a lot of sediment. Thanks for the video!

White vinegar when poured into the pump will also remove mineral deposits. If it's good enough for a coffee maker, it's fine for a pressure washer. White vinegar however will not keep the pump from freezing, so Pump Saver is a one shop stop. Because I have equipment that contains potable water, I end up using RV anti-freeze to winterize everything. Not sure who Karcher uses from their pressure washer pumps, but they've become 2 seasons at the most pressure washers.
