Also good to develop your muscles for handheld. Treat it like a daily workout. Holding you camera steady for a extended amount of time.

You hit the nail on the head about movement, we’re so programmed to include movement sometimes we overlook the basics! Awesome video man 🙌

yeah I forget to slow down and focus on keeping it still.

This is great! Getting away from so much camera movement and letting the frame and blocking tell the story. This is how they used to do it. Mainly because the cameras were so big and heavy lol but it helps immerse you in the scene more.

haha exactly! Sometimes the smaller and lighter cameras are making us lazy

I’ve been doing a lot of street videography lately and the majority of the time I don’t bring a tripod with me. Mostly, I just use a camera saddle. Sometimes I will have the camera on a Peak Design strap as well, to make things extra steady. My camera also doesn’t have IBIS (R5C).

Great video as usual thanks for sharing it and the honesty… less movement the better

a good alternative to a tripod, is a long piece of string. between your foot and the camera you can pull the sring tight when you are holding your camera in front of you.

The timing of this! I agree with you that having movement in the still frame is essential otherwise, it's just another photo in a video format. Last year, I'm also learning about this and struggling also with stabilizing the shot, however, I dont want to carry a tripod around because it will just take some attention from people around which sometimes might lose your shot. Im trying to stabilize it using my neck strap and a small tripod acting as another grip, it's hard but it's a skill. The main challenge for me is whenever I want to capture the same scene but with different focal length to tell a story, since I'm just using cheap prime lenses. I might invest to a zoom lens with stabilization and im eyeing the Tamron 17-70mm 2.8 since im shooting apsc.

Been testing s5iix 2 months now and it is decantly steady "tripod like", but I wouldnt blindly rely on it, atleast with 85mm shakes can happen. Tripod shots are generally good at "general view" shots, timelapse, making "sense of slow time" shots. Also animating 4-6k video with scaling, zooming in is good option if you got steady shot. For street videography I recommend zoom lens with smooth focus/zoom rings. This enable you to show "connections" or find interesting spot (I got canon 90-300mm atm)

One thing I've done for years now is to keep a small hand-grip style tripod (Manfrotto's) in my camera bag. If I have nothing else, I have that much. Being so small (about 4" high when deployed) it is often not enough, but occasionally it has allowed me to get a shot I would otherwise have missed.

Very similar to shooting weddings mate, except you can’t take your time & you only get 1 shot at it!…..lol And you are right, 90% of what I have learnt was by doing it & making mistakes! Great tutorial.👍🤘💪

2:55 would yelling at the bird so it flies away be too insensitive? 😀
@jer30063 күн бұрын
That is a definite No-No. Among many others online, the Backcountry Gallery Forum made up of many landscape/wildlife photo/video members has that particular issue in their top 10 of "Don'ts" as it is very upsetting and unfriendly to wildlife. It comes under the umbrella of how to be a good citizen while out in the wild. Your smiley face indicates you may be joking but it is a serious matter to professional and hobbyist wildlife photographers.

@@jer3006 Thanks a lot for those insights, I'd understand that for a wildlife setting but this seems like an already busy city; a car horn or a loud bystander will cause the same reaction in a couple of seconds anyway. I think there's a difference between following some arbitrary rules made without asking my vote, by an online community that I didn't even heard of and being a reasonable person and adjusting your action and sensitivity to your environment. We also have a lot hunting going around here so that might be why yelling at a bird in a city environment doesn't sound super problematic to me. To each their own.

Sony needs to fix their horrible stabilization. LUMIX and Nikon (with a vr lens) are leaps and bounds ahead of Sony at the stab game.
@JasonMorrisphotocinema3 күн бұрын
They have been fixing it. Much better in the newer cameras like A7RV, A9III & A1II
