One thing you absolutely need to pay attention to is, that since you only get a limited number of each gemstone, dumping the highest value ones into a single treasure, means you will lose out on value on every other treasure, which is why it is still beneficial to get a lower amount on a single item, and a much higher amount in total. It's better to go for the highest possible multiplier for every treasure. Which is same colors on 2 and 3 slot items, and one of each color on 5 slot items. The 4 slot items are a bit of an outlier, as it is technically best to use 4 red gems, but since berryls are too rare, it's still better to go for 4 different colors instead. Also you will have a bunch of lower value gems leftover, since there are more gems then treasures in total.

From my recent experience playing this game, having different colors is the best to maximize the price. That way you'll keep the variety of your gems. Save them for Ornate Necklace & Elegant Crown. Those two are the real moneymakers.

I use all reds for the Crown, I mean a 1.9X multiplier is no joke. Albeit I did use the yellow and reds on the first crown to get the trophy for selling 1 item for over 100000 ptas

well if you re not a gamer you wont see shift on the left and 'gemstone bonuses' and you wont be curious to what does that do and you wont know the multipliers of combinaisions but if you re a gamer you ll see it and go hmmm i wonder what does that do and you ll understand
