25 years ago I was into making paper. My husband (then boyfriend) made my screens. I would stand at the door of our local BINGO place and collect all the used cards. Different colored daubers. I also got dried flowers from a lady who made cards, she would give me her unusable castoffs. Friends loved receiving cards from me. I was younger, had more energy and it was fun. Plus people thought of me as a hippie. I’m 68 now and have truly achieved my “hippie” badge. Thanks for sharing, who knows I may just get the paper making bug, again.

We did this in 4th grade. We used book orders and newspapery type stuff mostly, and dryer lint. Ours turned purple too. Some people pushed dried leaves and flowers into their piece of paper. It was fun! I was 9 then, I'm 43 now, so obviously that project made a lasting impression on me. One other thing you can do with paper pulp is to make fire starter bricks for your tornado (or camping) bag or charcoal grill.
@OzarkGiGi17 күн бұрын
This is what I do! I purchased a brick form that squeezes out water and make bricks for our cast iron stove!
@-desertpackrat17 күн бұрын
That's also a good use for dryer lint that you mentioned, too. I roll mine up and stuff it into a Ziploc bag, you can fit a ton in there and press the air out, and then use it as tinder to start a fire because it's super flammable.
@Stardust_Vega16 күн бұрын
Oh good idea
@ms.annthropic634112 күн бұрын
What’s the purpose of adding dryer lint to the paper pulp? What does it do?
@Spangletiger9 күн бұрын
@@ms.annthropic6341 It might have been to strengthen the paper. It is the plant fibres in paper that give paper its strength. However, when you tear paper up to make recycled paper, some of those fibres break apart so that your recycled paper has shorter fibres in it, which can make the paper weaker. It might also have been added for decorative purposes.

@@Beatngu23 I would use something more powerful, I saw people doing it on TV once and I think they were using a big food processor kind of blender, with heavy blades and more circulation power. And lots and lots of water to facilitate blending. I bet there's some tutorials online because it was already a thing when I saw it on TV and I'd say that was like the 90s when I saw that. It's pretty neat, you can make paper with pretty much anything that has fiber in its structure.

Excellent! This is almost exactly the project I did with my students. They made paper that referenced the subject of a book they wrote. Just a little book about roses, with pages made using petals, for example. Covers and binding, too. Extra credit if they made a lino print with their paper. I spent half the year finding moldy bags of paper pulp, but it was worth it. It was the most complimented work in their portfolios
