Russian author Sergey Lukianenko recently wrote a book series about a multi-national and multi-species space flight crew on a mission to save the universe from the unknown force. In the cast he wrote a black female American crew mate. Despite being established as highly skilled pilot, she was used mostly as a butt for jokes about forced diversity in real live USA. Yet, in the last book, that unknown force struck the crew, rewritten her memories, and turned her into a sleeper agent. In a critical moment her programming activated, and she tried to destroy the ship with everyone inside (herself included) for the glory of alien conquerors. The remaining crew had no choice but to kill her. Kinda what Brainiac did to Justice League, and Suicide Squad killing them here. However, in his book this Russian author treated the death of his own throwaway American character with way more dignity. She was acknowledged as a force to reckon with, it took tremendous effort from everyone to take her down. As she lied bleeding, in her final moment her original memories came rushing back. She remembered (and the readers got reminded) of her past - all the training she did, how she was ready to sacrifice herself but save her ship, how she served her country dutifully. The crew mourned her passage, and even named a planet after her. This scene was written to leave impact on a reader. Here, in their own game, they treat canonical and world-wide recognized Batman as garbage. He's brainwashed for good, the fact that he left an emergency plans for stopping him in this very specific case means nothing, suicide squad members do everything on their own and treat his recordings as a joke. Then Harley just blabbers a shampoo-bottle level of argument in his face, as he has nothing to say, and Batman just gets put out of misery. There's no impact, Batman gets discarded as a used condom, as it's now a "sTrOnG fEMalE" time to shine. I just find it funny, that even a pro-Kremlin author - in a country that considers USA to be the enemy - treats American with more respect than Americans treat themselves.

I don't like to get in the often stupid mindset of "this game disrespects its source material" but goddamn does this game disrespect its source material. Even divorced from the Arkham games it would probably piss me off just from the sheer cynical nature of it but especially as a direct continuation of a great version of the DC universe it really rubs me the wrong way. About the only thing that would piss me off more would be if NetherRealm would have tried to insist that Injustice (which to be fair are two games that I like, just absolutely hate the central premise) was a sequel to the DCAU. I actually like the theories that this is a Justice League Braniac cloned and not the real one. All the dead bodies are teleported back, there are weird things, like Flash losing a finger then when you fight him as evil Flash he has all 10 fingers. I wouldn't be surprised if they did. These kinds of games can take many years to make, and quite frankly I haven't seen any movement bugs, which is impressive given that the 4 characters have different methods of traversal. I'd say it's more accurate that there was a better game in there somewhere, but at some point they had to scrap it because some WB exec wanted a Live Service Game, streamlined the characters into a gun and traversal method, and streamlined the boss fights because they didn't have enough time to redo them.

We need more of this. We need more flashback footage of all Arkham Batman’s triumphs. His trials and tribulations. His warm tender moments with his friends and allies… only for it to cut to cold faced Harleen pulling the trigger on our beloved hero. That way those defending this game will be forced to face the truth: That Rocksteady carelessly killed such a beloved Batman in order to make Harley look “badass”. They couldn’t even give her a remorseful facial expression, or final dialogue towards him that would suggest she’s grateful for everything he’s done for her (aka for the fans). No, she has to kill him with a stone face of remorselessness, she has to attack his character before ending his life. After everything they’ve been through (good and bad), she feels nothing. It’s so disrespectful. It was clearly done to boost Harley Quinn up, while denigrating Batman to a weak nothing. That’s why modern Rocksteady deserves all the hate and backlash this game is getting. They DID NOT read the room before acting upon their desires. I hope this game rocks them to their core, and shakes them of whatever money they had left. I also wish the OG Arkham devs (that left this game) all the best for refusing to betray Batman, and his fanbase.

That’s something I was wondering too, the position Harley was pointing the gun lines up with the center of his cowl and there are dents in other places indicating bullets bounced off, and there’s no excuse as to why dead center on his helmet would be weaker than the rest. Also there’s no way a revolver at point blank range has enough force to knock a 225 pound man backwards off a park bench. I really think they were still under the influence of the fear toxin and imagined Batman bleeding out. Harley did shoot the gun, but the bullet bounced off and no death occurred.

The thing I don’t see anybody talking about is how Bruce just… went back to being normal Batman after Arkham Knight? Seriously, after that ENTIRE game and everything that happened, you mean to tell me he just was like “oh hey everyone, I’m regular Batman again”. The major character implications of that are innumerable.

Like the **whole point** of Arkham knights ending is that Bruce has to pretty much kill his persona and fully embrace Batman to defend Gotham, even leaving all the people he cares about And then Superman just comes along an bats joins the league? And makes friends? Records lines for a children museum? Like I don’t mind this for other Batman’s, but it makes next to no sense for Arkham Batman giving his devolpment Imagine how pissed Selina must be, the guy just leaves you because he needs to go full time vigilante, and then he just gets back to normal a few years later. The most disrespectful game in the history of games, I love The Arkham Batman games, the best batman games ever made, and their next game is this PoS? because they had to listen to Sweet Baby Inc and other stupid woke companies to ruin their own company in the process. This game could have been great with a justice league prequel setting this up and then respectfully took them all out as an Alternate reality / Elseworld story. With some of the Suicide Squad dying the process, but no. We get this rubbish. This is unforgivable and will never be forgotten how much they disrespected Kevin Conroy, and all the fans that loved them until this game came out.

They should have done a Forever Evil inspired game if they wanted us to play as villians against the Justice League (Crime Syndicate), or they could have gone the Justice League doom route where Batman maybe teams up with the SS to take on the 'evil' JL members. Batman could have died heroically and gone out a hero as a fitting send off to Kevin and the Arkhamverse. Or maybe, you know, just set the game in a different world so it's not canon. Incredibly dumb story and ideas by people who clearly don't know DC and wanted to get an instant cash grab while tearing down the franchise that built their studio's name and fame.
