Glad you are all excited about the LumenPnP!

I've been following Stephen for a few years and am so stoked about the Lumen. I have a board I'd like to do. First I have to learn how to design the board and get it done. If I can get to that step, then I'll order a Lumen. It would be very useful for this project. It's a gateway machine. I'll be interested in seeing how yours comes out.

I am super excited as well, Marion! We're already a long way down the PCB design -> prototyping -> manufacturing road, so I'm hopeful that we're fairly prepared to get moving quickly. We "only" have to learn how to operate a different kind of robot, so I figure we ought to do alright. I hope! I will for sure be keeping everyone updated on how things go! I also hope your learning experiences go well! Stephen's Discord server seems pretty friendly, and there are lots of knowledgeable electronics design folks hanging out there!

Not only did we order a LumenPNP kit, but we are precisely half way through the 6-week lead time. I can hardly wait to put it together and try it out!

@@OpuloLucian I am super excited, Lucian! But I am also quite patient, because I know that once the LumenPNP arrives at my door, I have to start assembling and learning! I am also excited to know that you are a real person and a real Opulo employee, Lucian, and not just a fictional character or a paid actor on KZbin! :)

Keep in mind. Doing 50 at a time to see if you need to print more, means you'll need to delay populating other boards....unless you want to reset all the feeder locations etc. Setup is the work.

We don't have any other boards to populate, so there's nothing to delay. The farther along we get in the project, the better the math looks. We've reduced two or three points with financial risk down to tiny dollar figures, and it is looking like our out of pocket cost for 1,000 of our tiny PCBs, the reels of LEDs, and the cost of the LumenPNP will surprisingly close to what we would have had to pay for 1,000 assembled boards from PCBWay. This is completely ignoring my labor. The journey has been fun so far, and I am excited to see how our little gamble pays off! :)

@@patregan i think it is great that openPNP sw\hw is getting so much support that little guys can actually compete against big biz. No more monopoly from biz that could afford the expensive pnp machines! It makes me wonder what will be next! Diy chip Fab for microcontrollers?

For anybody that's interested, we've already 3D-printed all the parts necessary for the LumenPNP. I tried to keep track of all the 3D-printing. For the 52 printed parts, it took 381.3 meters of 1.75mm filament (~1144g) and about 92 hours of print-time. Now we just have to wait for the rest of the kit! Has it been 6 weeks yet?!

Thanks for posting some numbers on the printed parts, I'm curious to see how your parts printed out. Did you opt for single color or a mix? I know there are a couple parts that need to be printed in white/natural as they are used for diffusing the LEDs, but what about the rest?
@patregan
@patregan 2 жыл бұрын
@@atanisoftware I have the box of parts that Brian printed here, Mike! He printed everything in black. I printed the two diffusers in white. I haven't looked them over carefully. I figure that will happen when the kit arrives and I am putting everything together. None of the parts look like challenging prints as far as I can tell. We will be keeping everyone posted once things start moving!

That is great, I agree none of the parts are super challenging. The challenge comes at assembly and calibration time. The cameras seem to be one area that trips up a lot of people.
