I personally have thought about this phenomenon a lot. I am really excited to see where it leads humans. The way I think about this is that through social media we are hyper-connected. We keep touch with people that in the past we would have lost touch with years ago. We sometimes meet someone once and become instant friends via the internet and never see them in real life again. I like the fact that as humans we are so much better able to see an issue or idea from someone else's perspective.

I don't think the intention of the show is to offer solutions, but rather to pose questions so that a conversation can happen here. I think it's interesting to consider that much of what we do online is for attention. Everything we post has a like button next to it, and that feedback can become addictive. Everyone is thirsty now a days. When you put everything into context, you begin to realize that in terms of getting that attention the end (getting likes) should not justify the means.

This video reminds me of a NY Times review I read about Douglas Rushkoff's new book "Present Shock". Essentialy "Present Shock" is a diminishing of everyhting not happening right now - and the onslaught of everything that supposedly is. The way one of my friends sees it, posts are streams of information that are being coveted more than the storage information such as books and films. I believe the story I am tellng with my posts is how mindful I currently am - the more I post the less mindful.

Guilty as charged. I was sharing way too much of my personal life online and scaled back substantially once I saw just how much time I was devoted to "sharing".

i think this was absolutely brilliant. made me think of my sharing. even though i already do and realize they are people bored at the moment looking for entertainment that i provide them along with countless others. bravo you both.

The difference between telling your friend about the great sandwich on the friend and sharing it on your social network account is that you cannot post the photo of the sandwich and decide who sees it and who don't.

Yes this generation shares way too much info online. But as an 80's kid, my friends and I had A feeling this was coming.

I think in the end it may be the best thing that ever happened to our species...When we go to war or hold someone hostage there is a dehumanization process that occurs within in our psychology - its natural and there have been several studies that prove this effect even in a persons perception of a homeless person. I think that this hyper-connectivity counteracts that to a certain extent, has the capability to make the world a better place.

How is that different from telling people certain things in person without telling a select group of other people? Isn't that how everyone operates? "I share this with this guy, but not with this guy" type of scenario.

If Google starts forcing us to put our names and our age on the internet then yes, we will be sharing too much of our personal details.

If I eat a damn good sandwich and I'm talking with someone, I'm going to tell them about that damn good sandwich. How is this different from expressing that interest online? I feel like this is making an issue out of nothing. Yes, there are the occasional people who get carried away with sharing the trivial and mundane, but hell, isn't the in-person equivalent "small talk"? How uninteresting is that? I don't believe there to be such a difference online and offline as this makes it seem.

all the comments made on the video are only scratching the surface of what ails humanity which is why Social Media has come into being - it would take a whole book to cover this subject - people involved with Trashlab already know this from their experiences.

I don't share content. I just comment a little if it's with my real name on fb. I comment a lot more on yt and I have a blog but it's always under a nickname. I like to keep things separated. I love to express myself online but I don't want it to affect my career or offend my family because they are very religious. Sorry if my english is bad it's not my 1st language.

Ya if there was a list of my grandfather's minute to minute feelings, thoughts, and actions (AkA a Twitter Feed) I would totally be reading that right now. Of course my grandchildren will be reading what I put on the Internet. I just hope our generation has a good way to explain away our social media actions. I know I will need one. It going to require a cover-up as big a Santa Claus. We got our hands full on this one.
