Ohhhh,now I get it. This is the same logic we use in deriving distance between two points in 2d coordinate geometry. If we don't use sign convention,the formula is specific for a case but if we use it then formula becomes general and again we use sign convention to specify it to a given problem or case. Hats off to the guy who first thought of this method. PS: correct me please if my line of thought is incorrect here. Thanks for reading.

Firstly, we do the proof by taking a a particular case of object lens arrangement ... Then we generalise the case by applying co-ordinate signs of the parameters ...so that for any case of object lens arrangement the formula is valid .... Further during problem solving we use the parameters with appropriate signs as per the question so that the formula can recognise the case of arrangement and give the corresponding ans.

Sir, Please make a video on use of symmetry in Physics. I had mailed you the entire problem which uses symmetry principles when we solve the equivalent resistance problem of a cube of resistors calculating its equivalent resistance across face diagonal, body diagonal etc. all books write one statement that it happens due to symmetry. what is the physical reasoning behind it. How can one prove it mathematically like if we want to derive moment of inertia of a solid sphere of mass m , it can be shown using integration that it is 2/5 mass times radius squared.

Sir namaste🙏🙏🙏 Sir here we are using the similarity of triangles or proportions of the corresponding sides of similar triangles. So actually the sides are always distance, so is it not getting wrong to use coordinates against sides of triangle.

Actually, first time use of sign convention during derivation of the equation ensures homogeneity/generalisation of single equation for all classes of mirrors/lens, while second time use of sign convention nullifies the effect of first time use. We are indirectly using different equations for different cases as it should have been. Say by similarity of triangles, somewhere in equation we have a length PO(in some form, ratio or product with any other say PF), let that represents length between pole and object kept at axis, while deriving you write it as "-u", here it no longer remains length (as length/distance by definition can't be negative) and while solving numerical involving it you put some value say -30cm, again putting negative sign, so essentially what you have done is ascribed -(-30cm) i.e 30cm value to the length PO. Indirectly you have used different formulas for different cases, just camouflaged by sign convention.
