Fires are primal and help me to feel connected with the spirits around me⚡️

As a former homeless guy, never ran fires when I was living in a tent. I just grabbed extra blankets, wore my jacket, put a tarp over my tent. Fires are good for cooking.

Fire restrictions out west here for the last several years have been consistent, such that I've grown accustomed to not having them. My sons and I are going winter camping over the holidays. We are going to bury a brisket. We will need to be making some coals for that, but otherwise, propane serves all of our cooking and heating needs. I have one of those collapsable metal stoves I use sometimes for heat outside. It is a good way to use small scraps from the shop.

i am a 60 year old river rat .... i camp every weekend on the river. i don't like sprays with deet so i always set a camp fire to get rid of the bug, also wild life does NOT like a fire. remember in a survival situation that fire is life LOL ...

@sangamonriverrats I'm with you on the sprays. Years back I finally found the best, no mess bug repellent of all...Winter Camping! LOL! Have fun out there with your river running. Take care, Matt

not everyone wants to sit in/by their tent for years.. some people want to spend time with others. a fire is the best way to do this, as it provides light, warmth and something for people to look after. your expensive gear cannot do that effectively. i mean, your $1200 bag provides ZERO warmth in actuality. this is literal caveman stuff. shugmery is open about how he prefers to be alone when camping and enjoys the solitude provided by a hammock. i don't think he'd be confused as to why SOME people enjoy a fire, though. he also has a fire in several of his deep winter videos a fire is also VASTLY more efficient in terms of weight for melting snow to survive, as gas is highly inefficient in deep winter and alcohol is highly inefficient in general. also, we had down filled gear 20 years ago. i have no idea why you think camping gear in general has advanced so much in a few decades that it's somehow made fire's redundant, when it was solid enough to climb everest, 100 years ago.... also, also...if your sleeping bag has a zipper, it will never be as durable as a quilt. it's a simple fact, more points of failure = less longterm durability. hope this helps...
