There's definitely some selection bias, but it's also worth noting that opinions expressed in this video have selection bias AND are complicated by their desire to not shame themselves publicly. They're well aware it's frowned upon at least a bit by society so they're more likely to say presentable things. If an interviewer came up and asked how often you steal, or how cleanly you are, or how healthy you eat, a lot of people will feel pressure to state that they conform to whatever the expectations are.

I went through a phase where I met girls in Tokyo for coffee, and went back to my place for a movie, and see how far it went. It was like 2 dates at once. 50% 1st-3rd base 20% homerun. Not really proud of that, just saying it does happen if you set up the environment. I ended up having a kid with one of those girls and we're generally happy now. But honestly I'd like to see girls more reserved about sex, and giving nice guys more of a chance. I had near 0% success being a nice guy so I figured why not give it a shot. If I'm being honest, there was probably a lot of other girls that were a better fit for me who wouldn't give me an opening or a chance.

And that's perfectly the meaning of 郷に入っては郷に従え. 🙇 That's why I learned the basics of the language, to communicate as a gaijin with locals. At least a little bit. I know how to pray at Buddhist temples and how to wash, bow and clap etc at a Shinto Shrine. It's not that hard, to follow the hosts rules and I don't know why TF so many tourists can't do that. (But this is also true for many East-Asian tourists in Japan too). Just my 2 cents... 🙂

Yes, both are dates. Going to lunch with a girl, or meeting her there so the two of you can chat while you have your meal is a casual date. Usually so casual that it's not really thought of as a date, but it is. That type of date is good for getting to know each other better with no pressure on either person for anything beyond the meal.

That means that partner didn’t care about you. That partner was just concerned with sex. There was nothing wrong with you asking to wait. I don’t believe there should be a time requirement on being intimate between two consenting adults. But if one person isn’t ready and just needs a little more time…. Nothing wrong with that… especially for women… having sex can be a life altering situation for a woman… so of course they are going to be more critical about it. I have been with women that wanted to take it slow… and I have been with women that things went really fast. But for me, I was with them because I wanted to be with them, not because I wanted sex. Bottom line. If a guy likes you for you and wants to be with you, and you want to be with him, it will happen naturally when you both are ready.

I used to take my time getting to know girls over many dates, only to get friend-zoned time and time again because a lot of girls do not seem to want to be best friends with their lovers. Ultimately this was something I became increasingly impatient with, and at least tried to kiss by the first date so there was no confusion later about what I wanted in a relationship. As I got older I much prefer to go ahead and have sex before knowing each other well. Because it is so intimate it is important that you:re compatable. And the more you know each other the harder it is to just leave amicably. And 33 now, everryone around my age is always busy. So it may be weeks between seeing each other again. Since being in Japan, it seems pretty universal that everyone over 30 wants to move a lot faster to make sure we aren:t all waisting each other:s time. All that to say my fiance and I had sex at the end of our first date (after going on a traditional date for 10 hours). And even everyone who came before, we were much more compatible if we did it on the first date. Personally, at my age I don:t want anyone trying to figure out if they want me or not past date 1- you should know if you are into each other or not by the end of the date. If you are hestitant in either direction then you don:t know what you want, and that is much more problamatic.

You must learn to speak fluent japanese,learn the culture and then take everything with the grain of salt. It's not easy to do it because Japan is not Thailand where you can easy find a girl for dating. For average westerner who would travel to Japan on the first time chances to meet a Japanese girl even for casual drinks are super slim. First massive barrier is of course language because not many japanese girls speak good english,then your cultures would clash and you need to have means and ideas to overcome all this. From positive side more and more japanese girls are really open to date foreigners but Japan is still very unwelcome country and it can be really intimidating when you go there for the first time. Judging from the comments, it sounds like Japanese women only go slow with Japanese men. There is something definitely broken there that desperately needs to be fixed, considering the free fall of Japanese population. Not saying sex on the first date should be promoted, but definitely more sex and romance going on in general. Idk, I feel like this line of interview is unrealistic. Because to have sex with a person is a personal feeling. You can’t put a time on becoming intimate with another person. Also, there’s a whole lot going on behind the date. For instance, it may be a first date. But maybe they have know Each other for a while… maybe they have been attracted to each other for a bit. Maybe they just met and they don’t know each other, so they need more time to get to know each other. Each situation is extremely dynamic… if one of them wants more time, nothing wrong with it. If they both want to enjoy each other on a first date, that’s ok too. Also I disagree with it being a cultural thing. I have been with both American girls & girls from other countries, including Japan. It didn’t matter: some were first date, some took a while, but no matter what, there was history.

I live in Denmark, it's a small Nordic country & we are Vikings :) I am now 56 YO born in a cold night in 1968. In Denmark it's normal to kiss and have sex on the first date, even if you never have met the girl before, and it's not done by force the girl is all in and wants the same. If not I and other men accept this, and would NEVER try to force the girl, we just accept and if interested we ask for another date. However there is a lot of refugee men in Denmark, they are different and will/might try and force the girl to have sex or even rape the girl. I am not a racist, but this have to be said. How I met my wife. In the beginning of the 1990s I was a soldier in the UN Peacekeeping Force and was send to Cyprus where I was stationed for about 13 month. A half year in you get a one week leave in Denmark before you return to Cyprus. In that leave I was with my buddy's, and we were at 2 girls (they lived together, to save and share the expenses) apartment drinking and having fun before we hit the nightlife. We hit the nightlife, and I got close with one of the girls we were together with in the apartment. At some point I aske if she wanted to spend the night with me, she said yes. So we spend the night together and had sex for several times that night. 3 days later I was in Cyprus again, and started to write letters to the girl - and yes we wrote together, it was before the internet guys.... I finished my tour of duty and returned to Denmark, and I still wanted to remain as a UN Peacekeeper, but between each deployment you had to spend 6 month in Denmark before you could be deployed again. I met up with the girl, but found her still too young and immature for a relationship, so I moved to another town. After a few months I hooked up with her again, and this time we started dating. She moved into my apartment, and we started to live together, and I decided to skip my plan at becoming a professionel soldier, and be more or less deployed all the time, and became a civilian. After many year together we got married, later bought a house together. An in august 2022 we got a divorce after living together for more than 30 years. So having sex on the first date, is by no means a bad thing. But I acknowledge that different countries have different culture. But a Danish Viking makes his move on the first date :) All in all - Live your life like you are about to die tomorrow, have fun, stay safe, explore, eat, dream, do stuff, have sex, love people and live a good life. Having sex on the first date DO NOT make a girl easy or a slut, she is simply just in love with the guy, love at first sight happens... I still love my x-wife, but we can't live together anymore. So at 56 I am now living alone and without sex. Only a asian girl or more specific a Japanese girl, have a chance of capturing my heart. (All females are girls in my mind a girl can be 75 YO, only lady is our Queen. And a girl have to ask me to call her a woman, until that happens she will always be a girl)

@@hillaryt7405 Well its just how it happened, I do not feel girls having sex on first date/meetup are wrong in any way. At the same time I totally respect girls that choose not to do it before X number of dates, if a man is interested in her he will have all the patience in the world. I do not know what you are saying no thanks to, is it sex on first hookup or do you thing I made this post with the purpose to hit on some girl???? To that I can say I did not, and expect not to have sex for the rest of my life, unless I find someone I love as much as I loved my x-wife, and I do not forse that happening. Beside I think I had enough sex in my time, so I do not need it, but I will truly miss the closeness and intimacy that I had with her. True love, hugs and cuddling I will miss so very much. I enjoy hearing about Japanese views on these subjects but these girls were so young, not sure they have enough experience to really understand sex or relationships yet. I don't know much about Japanese culture but aren't they still in high school at 19. What I am really curious about is with the worlds lowest birth rate, what are Japanese women's (25+) view on sex? Are they just not having sex at all or are they having sex but no babies? With such a low marriage rate, are there just lots of couples dating or are most women single and just doing hook-ups or just forgoing sex all together? To me that is the most interesting question, what is the state of sex in Japan nowadays?
