Handle bar risers should be an in and out job. The cable, shock and rear brake fluid reservoir issues look like the beginnings of salt corrosion to me and, if so, could be prevented by application of ACF50 or similar in preparation for winter riding. Try taking a toothbrush, with an application of liquid car wax for the metal components and a good vinyl/rubber cleaner for the cable tubing and plastics, to them to remove it. The metal ends of the cables/hoses will probably turn black where corrrosion has occurred, but so long as you keep them clean and regularly polished shouldn't be a problem. Again, this assumes salt/weather induced corrosion. If I am wrong as to the cause of the problems, then I can only say that I feel your pain.

Not a spec of rust or corrosion anywhere on mine. I had the bars fixed under re-call. Took about 30 minutes. Great bike.

I have an MT-09 Tracer. The corrosion issue on the brake line ferrules is an easy 'issue' to control. Just include them in your cleaning procedure. After I clean the bike I squirt a little WD40 onto an old toothbrush and clean the ferrules & fixings. I had my re-call for the handlebar mounts carried out at William Hurst Yamaha in Belfast yesterday. 30 minutes 'while you wait' job.

I'll definitely add a toothbrush to my job list for cleaning.

Belived most of the corrosion issues came from the salt used to prevent icy road. Less likely will not see this problem in south eas asia, where i am from

I've got the standard 09, no letter about bar risers yet, but my brake pipe fixings look just like that, AND I did my best with the f365 spray. The oil cooler (next to the oil filter) is a big one to look out for too. Rsm8

I don't seem to have an issue with my brake lines. Also, my bike was not part of the recall. Ride safe mate.

standard low quality fasteners fitted to all Japanese bikes, the only solution is regular cleaning and liberal use of GT85/WD40 or ACF-50 if used in the winter. Stainless steel or titanium fasteners will fix the issue but at your cost.

I choosed the Honda Crossrunner over the Tracer for several reasons. The build quality was one of them
@pedromiguelareias4 жыл бұрын
Had recent Honda and recent Yamaha, now have a Tracer 900 GT. Honda has, in general, worse quality with respect to paint and exhaust materials. Yamaha is worse in bolts and details.

Just 5 minutes ago I recieved a recall on my 2015 Tracer. As part of Yamahas bla bla bla we regret bla bla THERE IS A POSSIBILITY that the lower handlebar holders may become loose and in the worst case scenario if not replaced this can result in a loss of steering. Thank god a lot of people have only been riding a possibly defective vehicle around for the last 2 years. I have Gilles bar risers fitted from new but I am still taking it in to my local dealer and having everything checked over.

I've booked mine in now but since the letter I don't want to push the bike anymore. I've also noticed there's more vibration but that could be because I'm constantly thinking about it.

Your bike actually looks mint compared to my Tracer. Worst bike I’ve ever owned, I bought it based on the hype of how good they were without test riding first and have had nothing but disappointment. The corrosion on mine is that of a 30 year old bike, not a 5 year old bike with 5 thousand miles, everything is falling apart with rust. Currently I’m stripping it down to get parts powder coated to clean it up before selling it. I realise it’s a budget bike but the finish of these bikes are pathetic. Definitely my first and last Yamaha, will be going back to BMW. Such a shame Yamaha dropped the ball with these bikes.

unbelievable how garbage these bikes are. most owners have problem with the clutch noise that becomes more noticeable within a time and affect the comfort of the riding

I noticed your MT-09 has a flashing "key" symbol on the far left side of the annunciator panel. My (U.S.) FJ-09 has no such symbol. Is there some sort of factory anti-theft system available across the pond? Also, as a data point, my 2015 FJ-09 shows no signs of the corrosion you show in this upload.
@olivertaylor74277 жыл бұрын
yeah, thats the immobiliser :)

The corrosion seems to mostly be a problem for EU riders, they tend to ride in the rain a lot more than US riders do, so far less likely for a US bike to see this problem, unless you live in the Northeast or PNW and ride in the rain on a regular basis.

UPDATE! 13,000 miles, and I now have a small amount of rust showing up on my rear suspension member. Looks like I will be heading to the dealer this week to get it sorted.

I have LOTS of rust problems on my 2015. Every one of my fixing bolts on both front and rear brake discs are rusty. The cooler large bolt is totaly rusted. My brake line front and rear are both showing corrosion. My factory fitted carriers for my side bags are corroded and paint flaking off in large pieces. The seat removal lock where I insert the key is corroded. The Yamaha running lights are flaking. My Acra headers are rusting like a bitch and no amount of cleaning can keep them corrosion free. I have done 5100 miles and have used acf50 from 0 miles and cleaned it every time I return with a passion. I leave it in my garage after cleaning it and when I look at it 3 days later its all rusty again. For a bike with so few miles on the clock I aint a happy puppy.

Unfortunately Yamaha are not known for their build quality and the MT range are built to a budget
@dullen877 жыл бұрын
What are you on about? Yamaha is known like Honda to last for a long time. Look at the FJR1300 or SuperTenere, those engines never die sort of.

Well I just sold my mt07 with low mileage and the tail light was almost falling off and the radiator pipes were corroding My new Honda has twice the miles and build quality is much better but it was over £1000 more expensive
