This has to be the coolest job in the world. I'm talking the team of pilot and linemen working together like one person. The precision, the steadiness, the overall unity in a team is unmatched. Me, I could never do it. That said, I love watching these guys work. I've seen it numerous times from right under a high tower. It fascinates me as much as anything. So to all you pilots and linemen who keep the power flowing, a heartfelt thank you.

Flew helicopters in the Navy for an entire career and I don’t know if anything I did, except shooting off rockets and blowing stuff up and firing big guns is anywhere near as exciting as what you men do on a daily basis. Both linemen and pilots. When you think about it both pilots and linemen are doing a job that at the end of the day is keeping the country safe. We both have the same kind of job…a high level service job and you have to like that to do it, either one. Well God Bless and God Speed to all of you that do this necessary work and THANK YOU for your service to our country.

It's a totally different trade but the electrical knowledge you learn in the electrical trade as an electrician carries over to other trades that deal with electricity. The theories of electricity still apply. Your knowledge will be a huge leg up once you decide to jump over to lineman work. Also being an electrician, you learn a ton of skills that will help you out for the rest of your life. Having electrical skills as a Journeyman electrician is a huge advantage in life. Definitely worth pursuing if you are thinking about it. Or just jump straight into lineman work, but a lot of those guys know absolutely nothing when it comes to low voltage work. The skills you learn as a lineman only apply to that field, you can't use it in any other application in your personal life. Although pay is better, electrician pay is still respectable, both are great careers.
